Of course (the Bills) can see me in their plans right now so it's just about me seeing myself in their plans. If I don't feel comfortable and don't think I can be successful, I won't sign here. They are doing a great job of convincing me that I'll fit in here."

Spikes was traded and Fletcher left as a free agent, technically not cut…just saying.

And the combo of Spikes injury, age, and contract......I didn't blame the Bills for that one

Most players don’t recover from that injury and are able to play at a high level.

but not Spikes, and LBF was almost run out of town by the fan base…..made all his tackles 7 yds down field, remember??? Why not add Greer and Leonhard to the list :-)

MAKE IT HAPPEN

Please sign him. Would add depth and experience and take some pressure off of Kyle Williams at NT. Would be an excellent signing, and he seems to be “getting better” as he ages.

It sounds like he's almost there.

I like his attitude in the interview. I think he’s very close to signing here, he just needs one last good push to do it. I think that the oppertunity to start is a very big deal for him, and he gets that here. And the endorsement from Pat Williams has to help too.

I really think that he’s ust one good contract offer away from signing. I think he’ll be a Bill before day’s end (fingers crossed).

haha this guy is funny

He wants money, simple enough, and totally understandable. He’ll see himself as a fit once his contract demands are met. This is the only place where he’ll get the chance to start, so hopefully for his sake, he doesn’t blow it because he wants the moon.

The way he’s talking, he’s making it sound like he’s some sort of superstar and a priority free agent signing. Hilarious!

You and K must be twins I Quess

Has the guy signed? Do we know what the offer was? How does your brain work? Let the process play out. Do you look at both sides or just shoot your opinion out there? If the deal works out let the guy come in and compete. That is all that is going on. We are building and anything we get has got to be better than what we are starting with. A fringe player? A superstar? Get real guys. Depth comes in stages.

This is like dumping a new puzzle from it's box. Now let's start putting the peices together. I guess this is what we all asked for.

by VanScottM on Mar 12, 2010 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

Not sure why you were so condescending to him

Nobody is saying he signed or getting angry about whatever contract he might get.

We’re talking about him speaking and sounding like he thinks he’s a superstar. Its doubtful he meant anything like that, just funny that that’s what it seemed like to me.

I know I said I’d expect him to start here and nowhere else, so I’d say he’d be coming in to compete…I think we all know this signing helps depth, since we basically don’t have any.

We apologize for our dysfunctional brains. Mine only works 85% of the time.

didnt even read this till now. i didnt think what i said would garnish such a response. my brain works fine thank you. i think it would good for him to sign, but throwing money at a fringe player is absurd…. hes not a starter in this league yet, and im pretty sure buffalo would be one of the few places that he would get a legitimate chance at starting.

Notice how BJ Raji sucked for GB, so much so that they franchised this year’s starting NT? We should take the same approach with whichever NT we end up drafting. That is to say that we should develop him for a season or two before we make him our full time starter.

Kennedy would most likely start for some time before Williams would be ready…

not so sure about that, considering the fact that they both have zero experience as a NT in the NFL. I’d expect it to be a straight up competition to be starter on day one.

you are so cynical my friend

I just watched the 1:1 clip with CB and he does not come across like that at all. If anything, the guy actually seems too soft nature’d to be a dominant NT. Still, I think he’ll make a great addition to our team at NT. I really liked the fact that he knew G. Byrd, this is a good endorsement IMO. Hopefully, he’ll be motivated to prove to people wrong on the “bust” tag and that he’s just a late bloomer. Anyway you look at it, he’d take a major need away, provide depth and more important give us more options in the draft.

Nothing left to say... the clock is ticking...

by keysh67 on Mar 12, 2010 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

How am I being cynical?

Just because I think money is the deciding factor, and Kennedy is treating this as a business decision, which he should, how is that cynical?

The guy will have the chance to start here, and probably nowhere else. I just hope he doesn’t blow the opportunity because he wants too much money. I’d like the Bills to sign him, which I’ve said already, but it smells of coming down to money and not much else. I hope both sides reach a fair agreement, as he could help give us some depth at NT.

I’m sorry you think that’s me being cynical. I can never win with you guys!!!!!

He should be treating this as a business decision.

Lets be honest, this is probably his last chance to get a sizeble contract (and I mean that by his standards so far in his career). And since he wont be a make or break it guy for any contender anytime soon, he should be going after the biggest contract possible as well. Lets just hope that he doesn’t get overly greedy in the process and realises that he not only has the poppertunity to get a good contract, but also gets the oppertunity to start here.

The more I see, the less I know.

by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 12, 2010 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

Well I'm sure he's not hurting for money.

He was drafted 12th over all. So for a couple of season’s he got payed.

by mob16151 on Mar 12, 2010 4:23 PM EST up reply actions

He was drafted 12th overall back when that only ment 6-8M garanteed. He’s basically been on league minimum since. In football standpoint, he hasn’t earned all that much. So yes I do think that he sees this as his last chance to make good on a contract.

I agree with you

he came across as a man who knows his career is limited and that hes only got so much time left. He sounds to me like a guy who wants to get the most out of the playing years he has left, monetarily as well as personally. I like that combo. Nothing wrong with wanting a paycheck, which he does, but he also seems like he wants to reach his potential before hes done. Motivated players are always good.

But he was a total bust in STL, and had nowhere to go but up.

Agreed

He will be a solid rotational/depth player as we develop our 3-4 D. I hope we sign him from a depth point of view but lets not break the bank for him.

by Buffalo Brad on Mar 12, 2010 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

Completely agree. Jimmy Kennedy is very solid depth but by no means should he be our starting NT. To me, we give him a three-year 10-11 million dollar deal and move him to DE where he can compete with Spencer. At NT, we draft either Dan Williams, Mount Cody or Cam Thomas and let them be on the field for the first two downs and then let Kyle Williams roam on third down.

Nobody really know what we’ll get. He has never played the Nose in a 3-4 and his strengths are more suited to that role and he seems to be a late bloomer so every has their hope up. Eirther way, he help the team and removes a pressing need in the draft, which gives Nix more latitude on draft day.

Where is this coming from?
Kennedy is a very mediocre player, who I’m surprised is getting so much love.

I watched him play for the Vikes last year. Granted he was surrounded with talent, but when he filled in for Pat W. there wasn’t much if any drop off in performance that I could see. And like has been stated, this guy belongs in a 3-4. He should only get better.

The same thing happened to Spencer Johnson. Then we signed him and he didnt have the Williams Wall to exhaust o-lines for him any more and he became human again. Personally, I like Spencer, Im just saying to temper expectations.

I'd be willing to slightly overpay for him but not break the bank

Let’s face it, we need a capable nose tackle SLIGHTLY more than most teams do right now. We can’t afford to be so stingy and pretentious about not needing anybody who wants a little bit of a payday. We need to improve! If we have to overpay one guy just a little bit, do it! It’s not going to kill us, besides, the guy may be a disappointment up to now because as the articles and reviews show, he fits our certain defense better than the ones he’s been in.

I read all the comments and see how Bills fans can get excited over Kennedy. But for only one reason. There is nothing else out there to sign. People are getting excited for nothing to be honest. This guy is a career bust. I don’t care what “systems” he has played in, what position he has played or what teams he has been on. He just has not produced. Just because he had an ok year last year in Minnesota, doesn’t mean he is turning over a new leaf. Really what it means is that he was a good fit as a rotational player behind the big pro bowl Williams boys who had already worn out the o-lineman on the opposing team.
Personally, I believe Kennedy is a slug. What he was in college, has never and will never, transfer over into the NFL.
Like I said, the funniest part is that Bills fans are getting excited over this guy because there really isnt anything else too look forward to until the draft. Trust me, I can understand. It made me think about it as well. But, then I regained my wits and reminded myself about who this guy was that was visiting. Now, I also want to mention that I wouldn’t be too upset if they signed him but at a reasonable “bust” price. He will be nothing more than a rotational player though, and Im sure won’t have anywhere near the production he had behind the Williams boys.
We all have to be patient until the draft because that is where I feel the Bills will do their damage this year as well as in the undrafted FA pool.
Expect about a 3-13 / 4-12 season this year and then next year after a full year under the new regime, we will be on our way toward a successful playoff team. As long as Nix does what I think he is and will continue to do by putting the correct pieces of the puzzle in place.

Go Bills!

Hambone... I concur, but don't want a 3-13 or 4-12 season...

… no way. After the draft and the injury comebacks, we will already be better than last year on the first game. The new atmosphere will spark hope in the young guys. And I hope we cut/trade some more of the old guys during or before camp.
Except Schobel if he comes back.

Spot on...

Hambone, I am with you mate. I think we are going to hit rock bottom this year. But we are a decent draft or two away from a rebound.

We have had too many years of mediocre back office bungling to fix in one year.

But we rebuild through the draft and a few smart free agent moves over the next season or so.

I could be off base here

but i’m going to guess, based on “mate” and “bungling” that you are either one of our English or Australian brothers, yes?
