Shaun Hill
OK, first ever post here - but long time commenting !
It appears that the 49ers are willing to trade Shaun Hill - and I doubt he would cost much considering they have 3 other QB's they like more.
Shaun Hill is 10-6 as the 49ers’ starting quarterback and has thrown 23 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in those games. I know this is not a huge body or work - but he seems more productive than what we have - and should come cheap in a trade - ie a 6th or 7th should do it.
Do you think a guy who has thrown 2 TD's per pick for a team who had very little at WR is attractive for a very late round pick ?
Personally I'd love to see this addition - but I'm open to being torn apart for my opinion :-) Comments ?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

In a split second
I’d bring him in for a 7th and drop Fitzpatrick. Let Hill compete for the starting job but honestly I think he is just a very seasoned and serviceable backup but a solid one at that. He actually reminds me a lot of Rich Gannon, who was a career backup his whole life really until his early thirties where he got another chance to start with the Raiders and his career took off. Many believe that all it took for Gannon to be successful was a QB friendly coach, which is exactly what Gailey is supposed to be.
Hill for a 7th – go for it!
Nothing left to say... the clock is ticking...
Glad
at least one person agrees. For a 6th or 7th he is at least better value than Fitz – and its highly doubtful his contract demands will be higher than fitz’s 4 – 10 deal.

He never puts up flashy numbers, but for the most part in his career he has done enough to win games. He leans on their running game and defense a lot, but those are the only “strengths” of our team as well. The big thing is he doesn’t make mistakes and gets the job done. I think he is easily worth a 6th or 7th. We could trade him the extra pick we have from Detroit for Ko Simpson, and it is even early in the round.
Im not against signing Hill
but dont trade for him, he will get cut anytime now…

If he gets cut, he can sign with anyone he wants
If we trade for him, he is stuck with us. Even if he becomes the backup, it would be worth a 7th rounder. I am not sure he would be much of an upgrade as a starting QB, and certainly not a franchise QB. While it is easy to look at stats and say our QBs suck, I don’t know that Hill’s stats would have been any better behind our O-line last season.
A married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing!
good point about trading for him. I was thinking the exact same thing earlier. I like the idea of trading a 7th to retain rights on the guy and I’m pretty sure his contract his cheaper than Fitzy. Does anyone have that info?

this is one of the links that K supplied earlier in the week
Fitzpatrick, Ryan

2009 Bills $ 1,820,000 $ 1,170,000 $ 5,590 $ 2,995,590 $ 2,215,590 QB
Not the best at research or copy/pasting but I think this is your info. I believe that Hill falls way short of this. Also, Fitz was sought after by a few teams last year as a back up. Having him on our roster for 2.5M to 3.0 m is not necessarily a bad thing. He is a quality Back up QB who leaves the team in position to win games just doesn’t have the history of winning games or other wise his salary would be double.
This is like dumping a new puzzle from it's box. Now let's start putting the peices together. I guess this is what we all asked for.

I was wrong, Hill’s salary is more comparable to Fitzpatricks than first thought.

wished I could link, don't know how yet.
It is a usatoday link, then something about nfl salaries. If I stumble onto how to post a link, I will pop back and put it in. I picked up on it from one of K’s comments in a recent post.

IMO he's definitely a step above Pennington
Mmmph rrgh prrmf! - someone with his mouth gagged
Go Jazz! Go Hogs! GO BILLS!
I like Hill
I’d love to see Buffalo acquire a young veteran with talent to play in 2010 as well as draft a rookie with a target arrival for the lineup in 2011…I want to see Edwards and Fitzpatrick dropped ASAP so that a real re-building effort isn’t hindered by the past regime’s poor judgment in terms of QB evaluation. Playing either Edwards or Fitzpatrick for even one snap in 2010 would be nothing but a waste of time.
Just say no...to Trent Edwards at QB.
You were right!
Apparently he was worth a seventh-round pick.
Not to us (of course). But he was worth a seventh-round pick.
I would have traded a 2011 7th rounder for him
Good deal for the Lions. He’ll be a nice backup to Stafford.

"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."
Yup
Makes me want to cry a little – there was value in giving up so little for him I thought. Not that I thought he’d be Peyton Manning, but for such a low price he might have represented some upgrade at a vital position !
Fairly sure no-one would have missed mext years 7th rounder too much.
