Quinn and LT
So the Jets signed LT and the Broncos traded for Brady Quinn.
Not to be complaining but are the Bills even trying to make the roster better at all? It seems like every other team is at least trying to make their team better. The Bills seem to be just sitting back thinking they have a better plan in the draft than other teams or something like that. Who knows that they're thinking but I guess we'll have to wait and see. They have to be at least worried that the Jets and Dolphins are doing everything they can to get better. Thoughts?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Over-reacting again
No way Quinn makes us a better team. LT, sure he’s a future HOFer, but do you really think he’d actually come here? I don’t thi.nk so
We have been over this a few times now
NOBODY is going to sign with us until CHIX show they are capable of turning things around. CHIX are not going to give up draft picks to gamble on a struggling QB.
A married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing!
It is easy to get frustrated, but neither of these players were truly an option. I think we all want to see something happen, but let’s not sign someone just for the sake of signing them. The Bills need to draft and develop young talent, and then commit those free agent dollars to keeping those players in Buffalo. The team is finally taking an approach that we should have installed about 10 years ago. The Bills have traded valuable draft picks for Drew Bledsoe, Rob Johnson, and JP Losman. Trading picks like these have crippled the franchise, and left a void of top talent.
I don’t know that Quinn has done any more than Edwards or Fitzgerald to merit being a starter. Quinn seems to be another QB ruined by coaching/front office ineptitude. As for LT, what would he do in Buffalo that Jackson and Lynch can’t do at least reasonably well?
It can always get worse. Let me tell you how.
are the Bills even trying to make the roster better at all?
Lt has nothing left, I’m actually happy that he is on the Jets because he isn’t good anymore. And Quinn is just terrible. I’ll pose this question to you, who so you recommend we go out and get to just make the roster better?
Well a WR opposite Evans would have been nice but that wasn’t promising and now there really aren’t any WRs left to take. Who’s going to be opposite Evans? Roscoe? He’s barely a guy that can play the slot. Hardy and Steve Johnson don’t have enough experience to play there but I guess we’ll see. I know I’ve overreacted but it’s hard not to
Its time to give Hardy and Johnson a shot, thats why we’re only going to be looking for a rotational WR after the draft.

He’s about as applicable as Rick Miirer is.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
And Eric Zeier, David Greene and Quincy Carter didn’t work out. Stafford is probably going to bust too. Rick Mirer was drafted in the early 1990s. I’m not sure how something could be less relevant.
Has the Big 12 ever produced a single good QB … ever? Maybe we shouldn’t draft Bradford either. And Rex Grossman, Danny Wuerfel and Jesse Palmer all busted, so no Tebow. I guess all the top QBs this year are destined to bust. Nothing they can do about it.

I started writing....
a response, but it got too long… I’ll get a fanpost up about why I think, so many QBs bust in the NFL… It ain’t rocket science….
I don’t actually think that. I was using the same argument that since the last highly drafted QBs from his school were busts, then Stafford must be a bust too. I’m not a fan of the whole Clausen will be like Quinn or Tebow will be like Wuerfel argumnets, so throwing as many of them out there as possible shows how they don’t work.

I think we are one of the LEAST desireable teams in the league to play for. The Lions have a promising nucleus. The Rams have the first pick in the draft. The Browns have Holmgram. The Redskins have Shannahan.
I love Buffalo, but I don’t think many free agents feel the same way.

name one that was available...
and that we should overspend for….
Look, this years crop of FA was definitely diluted because of the 6 year service rule… Sure, we could sacrifice draft picks by trying to go after restricted FA, but then you not only overpay money, but lose picks too…
But remember too, that the teams overpaying this year, will again have to get back down under a cap next year… Actually making next years crop, probably going back down to a 4 or 5 yr rule, huge in comparison… IMHO, save the bucks, use it next year in FA, or on our own players Chix wants to keep…
Not that it means that much
But Detroit has a new, indoor stadium, as well. I think players would rather play in a climate controlled dome, than a snowy locale like Buffalo, Green Bay, Chicago or wherever if given the choice.
Who knows though…..

So what?
So the Jets signed LT and the Broncos traded for Brady Quinn.
If anything, the Jets and Broncos are weaker after these deals. LT replaces Thomas Jones. Still trying to figure out the Jets’ logic there.
Quinn will be no more than a backup in Denver.
The Missing Link in the Chan Gang
all it means is that LT is at the end of a long and very productive career
And
Cleveland is going to draft a QB, probably Clausen
As far as other teams trying to get better, at this point you can only say that Cleveland traded away both their starting quarterbacks for a guy who threw a ton of interceptions last year. How is that trying to get better?
People on this board have a “Boo Hoo, nobody loves Buffalo attitude.” that is really pathetic. First of all, to be a starter on an NFL team ANYWHERE is a really big deal. Same thing with being an NFL head coach. Secondly, Ross Tucker over at SI.com just said his favorite place to play out of five cities was Buffalo because of the camaraderie. THere is more to life than nightclubs. The good players save that for the off-season and go back to Miami or where ever if they want to party.
I would of liked Quinn
He is better than any QB we have and apparently it would have only costed Mcintyre or something similar which in my opinion is worth a shot. The Broncos just got a 1st round QB for absolutely nothing. I know he did nothing in Cleveland, but seriously? Its Cleveland, he didn’t have anything to work with. Quinn would have been nice, at least as a change of pace from what we had for the next year or two until we found our QB. And thats of course if Quinn didn’t pan out. Now we are stuck with the same 3 QB’s for another year, should be thrilling!!!
Hold your horses!
Let’s wait and see how things develop with regards to the quartet of QB’s. The 3 currently on the roster will probably be here come the start of the season, but Gailey did state recently that Buffalo WILL bring in at least 1 more QB and I believe him.
how is BQ better than any of our current QB's?
Brohm maybe at this point.
BQ might be better looking or have a better build – but as for playing QB and throwing a football – he is WAY OVERRATED
He played for Cleveland. I guess you could same the same thing with Trent saying he played for Buffalo but Quinn had no options, literally none to throw to. He was the top rated QB coming out of college, that may not be saying all that much but he still has potential and can be good one day in this league IMO. He will compete for the starting job in Denver next year which is good for him. He is not overrated, he isn’t even rated. The guy has barely played and when he has I can’t blame him since its cleveland and they had no options for him. He looked alright Monday night and beat the Bills. I was at the game and was pretty impressed. He also had a broken thumb that game or something come to find out so that is even more impressive to me. He made some good throws.
I understand your frustration...
I don’t think either of these moves put these teams over the top, but everytime I see another team making a move, especially in our division I get a little feeling of frustration and wonder why Buffalo isn’t doing anything.
It’s been discussed here, and everywhere, at lenght that there’s not really a connection between throwing money at free agents and winning. I know we have holes to fill, and I want to see them filled, but I’m OK with a quantity over quality strategy this season (just waiting for OBD to start the quantity signings!).
This stuff is driving me insane. GET REAL PPL!!!!!
LT was NEVER going to sign with us, no matter how much money we threw at him!!! And Quinn was traded for a 3rd. Do you really want us to trade a 3rd rounder for a QB that has nevver shown anything special in the NFL? GET REAL!!!
NIX IS MAKING THBIS TEAM BETTER BY NOT MAKING THESE STUPID MOVES!!!!!
Nix is a draft guy. He said that he was going to build threw the draft, and thats exactly what he’s going to do. Signing a has been and trading a high pick for a never will be would have been HORRIBLE moves for us. You don’t build a contender by signing big free agents that will get worst very remaining year of his career. AND YOU DON`T BUILD A CONTENDER OVERNIGHT!!!!
It is going to take time to build this team back up. And you have to depend on your young players to do it!!! You only bring in vets to fill the holes that you can’t fill threw the draft. AND YOU DON`T SIGN PLAYERS AS FREAKING MARKETING MOVES!
Its going to take some time for us to get better guys. GET USED TO IT AND STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT PLAYERS THAT WE DIDN’T GET!!!!!!!
The more I see, the less I know.

Should people stop posting here when they are frustrated?
I didn’t read this post as as a gripe that we didn’t get Quinn or LT (did anyone actually think either would happen?). I think his point is other teams are making moves and we’re not.
I don’t care so much about Quinn, but the Jets have moved ahead of us and have done a lot through FA the last two seasons. I’d like to see us trying to keep up with them. It feels like nows the time for one of the other three AFC East teams to make a move for the top on NE…and it doesn’t feel like were going to be that team. Miami’s rebuilding year was full of low profile FA signings that had a huge impact…we’re not even doing that yet.
I think Brady Quinn is going to have a tough time beating out Kyle Orton for the starting job in Denver and I think Orton is terrible.
It’s probable that LT will make the Jets backfield less productive even if he’s much more reliable than Washington and Shonn “fumbles” Greene.
I was hoping Buffalo would be a little more active in FA, but I still think they will end up signing a good amount of players. It’s clear that Nix is biding his time and waiting for guys to become bargain signings and I can’t blame him. Buffalo needs cheap stop gaps to set themselves up for future spending and not a bunch of 30 year old, overpaid below average starters.
