Ten years from now....
Just for the sake of friendly debate/discussion, I wanted to see where everyone views the current Bills roster as going over the next ten years, in a similar fashion that each draft class is reviewed. I've made predictions, based off of our current roster, focusing on potential, character, abilities, etc.
Let the debates begin.....
Offense |
I see him as a solid back-up for the next 1-2 years; eventually he will get cut and be unemployed |
Likely will not make it through this offseason. If he does, he buys out his time on the roster until a better prospect comes along. Might float around the league for a few years following, but never really makes an impact |
The Bills will keep him around as cheap, reliable depth until he ultimately retires in 3-4 years. Will contiunue to contirbute solid "spot" contributions |
Our franchise QB for the next 7-8 years. I have seen enough to believe the can be a winner in the right situation. I view his career numbers looking something like Jake Delhomme's, in terms of wins and stats. |
Much like Eric Moulds, he will remian here for the better portion of his career. He will habitually flirt with 1100 yards and Pro Bowl appearances, but never wind up in Canton. |
He will likely remain a career back-up in Buffalo. He has the potential to be among the top-5 back-up QBs in the league (he might be already) |
Likely cut this offseason |
Will contribute a season or two in reserve duty before he is ultimately cut and unemployed |
I see him in Levitre and Wood being the strong point of our line over the next 4-5 years. As the three of them emerging as one of the top interior lines in the NFL |
I am a firm believer that Buffalo will take a WR in the first round over the next couple of seasons due to the fact that there is a lot of young talent across the board. When this happens, Hardy is gone. Unless he opens some eyes this year, he garners no interest throughout the league |
Remains on the roster for depth purposes this year, but doesn't have any sort of longevity with the team. |
Will habitually be on and off of the practice squad until he is ineligible to do so, then we forget who he ever was |
Makes a name on speical teams, but that only buys him 2-3 years on the roster, or the NFL, for that matter |
FREDEX is the next Brian Westbrook. He will be the focal-point of our offense until his legs get tired. Will see the Pro Bowl 2-3 times before he hangs up the cleats. |
If he could put on some size, I could see him taking the #2 spot from Hardy. That is, of course, until we select a WR in the draft, then he slides to #3 for the next 3-4 years. Will find work elsewhere following his tenure here. |
One of the most pleasant surprises here. I see Joe as a poor man's Chris Cooley in the right situation. We will earn himself a roster spot and stay there for the next 4-5 years. |
Him, Wood and Hang will prove to be among the best interior liunes in Fottball. While I think Wood will garner all fo the accolades, i think Levitre does enough to make him impossible to retain past his initial rooke contract. A career starter. |
Lynch will do something stupid to get himself suspended this year. After that, he gets cut from Buffalo and pops up on the radar in a Ricky Williams-type fashion over the next 7-8 years. A cautionary tale that will always have us asking "What if?" |
Our starting fullback this season, but not much longer than that. Struggles to find work in the league following his departure from Buffalo |
Cut in training camp this year in favor of late-round OL depth. Garners no interest elsewhere |
Never puts up huge numbers, as Buffalo will continue to ignore TEs in their offense. Kept around based off of potential. He will be the guy that constantly garners "This is his year" discussions. |
Despite the recent debate, Roscoe remians our primary return guy for the next 3-4 years. After that, his legs get tired and his speed stops compensating for his lack of size. Will always have suitors available throughout the league. |
Does not make the team this year |
Kept around for his ability to block. Remains a Bill as long as he chooses to and will always have the ability to find a back-up spot in the league |
Will have another huge preseason this year, but will never do enough to solidify a long-term roster spot. Ultimately garners interest from other teams, but never enoguh to make a career out of it |
Does not make the team this year |
Following full recovery from his injury (not sure how long that takes), Wood will emerge as one of the top-3 guards (or centers) in football. A career Bill who will see numerous trips to the Pro Bowl. |
Defense |
While I do not think he will ever put up 9 interceptions again, he will contineu to garner Pro Bowl appearances. Becuase of this, he will be hard to retain past his initial rookie deal. If we can keep him, becomes the focal-point for our secondary for the next 7-8 years |
Will be a rotational corner until his intial deal comes to an end. After that, I think he takes the same path as Jabari Greer and finds a starting job via free agency |
Looks as though he won the exclusive "Special Teams Guy" abttle with John Wendling. I see him sticking around in that capacity for the next 4-5 years due to his character and involvement in WNY |
The QB of our new defense. Andra will remain a rock-solid starter for us for the remainder of his career. |
Does not make the team this year |
The buck stops this offseason. Has a slim chance of hanging out for another year in order to see if he can hang as an OLB in the 3-4; based off of his past I'm guessing he will not. |
Keith will be kept around based off of his ability to augment our starting linebackers corps on short notice. He will always have a place here in Buffalo, simply because he has a ton of starting experience. |
Dwan Edwards- |
Will be a rock-solid starter at DE for the next 4-5 seasons. |
Does not make the team this year |
Has earned a starting spot based on merit. Not sure if this lasts through the emergence of McKelvin, but he will always has a job here in Buffalo. |
Does not make the team this year |
Makes a solid back-up in our new 3-4 defense. This is enoguh to keep him here through his rookei deal, but might not be enough to find him work following that. |
Does not make the team this year |
Will see rotational duties in the infancy of our 3-4. The Bills will eventually pick up a new DE in the draft, making him easy to be replaced. Will always be able to find work in the NFL. |
I think the transition to the 3-4 will be hard for this oft-scrutinized guy. I think this could be hos last season with the team. He will ultimately land with another team, likely in the 4-3 DE role. |
Kept around for depth for a couple of years, but is eventually released. Will find it hard to find work following release. |
Does not make the team this year |

Will emerge as a great situational OLB in the 3-4, but will always struggle against the run. I see him as a starter, who may flirt with 10 sacks a few times over the next 7-8 seasons. Overall, a very solid long-term fixture in our defense. |
Does not make the team this year |
McGee will continue to be an above average CB and will always have a starting job here in Buffalo. Retires a Bill and stays active in WNY. |
If he remains healthy, emerges as our top CB at the end of this year. Becomes a big target for other teams when his rookie deal expires. The Bills will likely lose him to FA. |
Remains an above average starter for the remainder of his career, which I firmly believ ends here in Buffalo. |
A career starter in Buffalo. Might flirt with the Pro Bowl a couple of times, but will always rack up a 100 tackles, a couple of sacks and a couple of picks each year. The posterchild for our defense for years to come. |
Does not make the team this year |
Plays another year in Buffalo. Has no problem transitioning to the 3-4, but opts to retire after next season. |
Emerges as a starting OLB in our 3-4 (i know...). Remains an above average starter for us for the duration of his career. |
The transition to 3-4 might be too much for his slowing motor. While he will start for a couple of seasons, he will ultimately be replaced by a high draft pick. Will likely find work elsehwhere and defy science by playing until he's 40 (much like Ted Washington) |
Above average starter for a couple of years. Will eventually fall out of favor and get released. Will always have a starting job waiting for him in another city |
Continues to surprise with his ability to compete due to will power. Starts at nose tackle and never looks back. An above average starter |
Much like Kyle Williams, conitnues to surprise against all odds. Will continue to be a roational starter and provide solid depth. Will always have a place on our roster |
Does not make the team this year. Will find work elsewhere following release, but not for long. |

Bell – I see him as a solid back-up for the next 1-2 years; eventually he will get cut and be unemployed
It’s a little early to be saying he’s going to bust. He was way to green to be starting LT last year. If they move him to RT he’ll be going against lesser athletes, he has more experience and could thrive there.
Edwards – Our franchise QB for the next 7-8 years. I have seen enough to believe the can be a winner in the right situation. I view his career numbers looking something like Jake Delhomme’s, in terms of wins and stats.
I would love to think that too – but every time I do – I think of how he looks when a drive stalls. He’s like “oh shucks darn”. I’m not sure he has the fire/passion to lead this team
Hardy – I am a firm believer that Buffalo will take a WR in the first round over the next couple of seasons due to the fact that there is a lot of young talent across the board. When this happens, Hardy is gone. Unless he opens some eyes this year, he garners no interest throughout the league
I wouldn’t be a firm beleiver that we will take a WR in the 1st anytime soon because we have far more important needs on the O-line and D front 7.
Plus – shouldn’t we wait to see how he plays this year before saying he’s going to be cut in a few years? He did look slow out there the 10 plays I saw him play and coming off of an injury is a concern. But i’m going to wait and see how he plays before i starting saying we’re going to draft a WR in the 1st because he’s going to bust
Joe Klopfenstein
One of the most pleasant surprises here. I see Joe as a poor man’s Chris Cooley in the right situation. We will earn himself a roster spot and stay there for the next 4-5 years.
LOL – he might not be on the team in the next 4-5 days. He’s been on and off this roster 4 times already.
Shawn Nelson-
Never puts up huge numbers, as Buffalo will continue to ignore TEs in their offense. Kept around based off of potential. He will be the guy that constantly garners “This is his year” discussions.
Remember – this new regime is offensive minded and designs plays to players strengths. If we have a QB – he’ll get plenty of action and he’s got some serious potential to be a deadly weapon.
Drayton Florence-
Has earned a starting spot based on merit. Not sure if this lasts through the emergence of McKelvin, but he will always has a job here in Buffalo.
He’s far more experienced than McKelvin. I see him and McGee starting with McKelvin as nickel and backup corner. McKelvin should be a very good backup for us at CB.
John McCargo-
Does not make the team this year
either that or will thrive as a DE. depends on how hungry he is and how small his pocket book is getting.
Kawika Mitchell-
Remains an above average starter for the remainder of his career, which I firmly believ ends here in Buffalo
I’m not sure he was ever an above average starter for us – after his injury – the jury is most definately out. If he can backup both interior spots then we have good depth at ILB and that’s a good thing. (this team is starved for OLB talent)
Aaron Schobel-
Plays another year in Buffalo. Has no problem transitioning to the 3-4, but opts to retire after next season
I’m not sure he plays this year – he knows we are in a rebuilding phase and does he really want to learn a new position when he is considering retirement on a rebuilding team that has a very small chance at playoffs? probably not – but money might make him play…
We got the tools, We got the talent
WR
-In terms of selecting a WR early, i think it will occur next year or the following year; i realize i worded that wrong. To me, it’s clear we take an OT in the first round this year.
-Also, I think Joey K. will emerge….no lie. Starting tight end by the end of the year……
re-signing
Trust me, I wouild love to see them all re-sign here. We won’t always have the ability to do so (remember what free agency is like every other year, but this year). If a guy plays great his first4-5 years, people will be throwing all sorts of money at him….bottom line. Look at Winfield and Clements…prime examples.
