I am more confident than ever that Jimmy Clausen will be our pick at #9. With Whitehurst going to Seattle, that eliminates them from taking JC with their pick. Washington will not take him at #4. So that leaves only the Browns as a realistic team that could take JC before us. With their recent moves and after hearing Holmgren's quotes lately, I don't think Claussen is even remotely on their radar. I think they'll either make a bold move up to try and get Bradford, or they'll draft a developmental QB with a second or third round pick.
Also, with Seattle solidifying their future QB, that greatly increases the chances that they select a LT with their pick. If Okung, Bulaga and Trent Williams are gone by pick 9 and JC is still on the board, I don't see how OBD passes on him. Unless they don't grade him as a possible franchise QB.
It just looks more and more like Clausen will be our selection, and I for one, couldn't be happier if that happens.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I’d like it for simply for the T.O. effect. Excite the fan base by bringing in a huge-profile proven winner and then have the amusement of watching it all play out.
It's Clausen, one "s" only one.
I love him but we need other players.

Ooops, not sure how I did that
But, we do need lots of other players, but what other player is more important than QB? None. If OBD values him like I hope they do, then he should be the pick if he is available. We can get a decent LT with our second rounder. That leaves NT and OLB as significant needs with the rest of our picks. I could see us trying to move back up into the second to get Cam Thomas.
A first three picks of Clausen, Saffold and Thomas would make me ecstatic.
No big deal
I’ve just seen it spelled like that a lot around here, just a pet peeve. I spell Dan LaFeavours name wrong sometimes when I look back over my post that mention him. Also, I’m a big Saffold fan, he’s flying up the draft boards.

Why not??? I know the bills need more players but i think we are considering this a rebuilding phase and they usually start with a franchise QB. The only thing left is if Nix and Gailey believe Clausen is their guy and that he falls to 9.
Clausen doesn’t strike me as a Gailey-Nix sort of guy. Tebow and McCoy seem more their type to me. Especially Tebow, since he’s proven that he’ll do whatever is asked of him and be humbled in the process.
most of my posts get deleted :(
How is that proven? Since he changed his delivery to give himself a shot at being a pro QB?
I think that’s an assumption based on his off-field behavior and demeanor. And what QB doesn’t do what it takes to win? Maybe Cutler?
by Dr. Brackish Okun on Mar 18, 2010 1:45 AM EDT up reply actions
he is proven because he won 2 national championships and was close to winning a 3rd. Also, J. Russell doesn’t do what it takes to win, not cutler
He didn’t say he was a proven winner. He said he did what he was asked. Also, how can you be close to winning 3 national championships when you only play in two?
by Dr. Brackish Okun on Mar 18, 2010 11:02 PM EDT up reply actions
How is that proven?
You can assume whatever reasons you want. It’s proven because it happened. He was told to do it, and he did.
But that’s a terrible basis upon which to select a quarterback. Wanting, and trying your best to be an NFL QB doesn’t mean a thing when it comes to having success. Does Trent Edwards not do what he’s asked?
I’m not denying the fact that he makes effort. I’m questioning why you think trying hard and doing what is asked of you means he’ll be a good NFL quarterback.
by Dr. Brackish Okun on Mar 18, 2010 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions
actually, no, Trent didn’t do what he was asked. That’s why he got benched. Re-read my posts, I never said anything that remotely suggested Tebow would be a good NFL QB. What I said was I thought Tebow and McCoy were more Gailey-Nix sort of guys than Clausen is. To clarify, I feel that T.O. and Cogs were shown the door for the same reason. Both have repeatedly put their own interests ahead of the team’s. Clausen has been accused of the same thing. McCoy and Tebow are said to do exactly what their coached to do, without second guessing their coaches. Old school guys like Gailey and Nix aren’t likely to put up with any prima donna crap.
Sorry, I totally read into your post the wrong way. So many people get crushes on him for non-football reasons and then try to justify why they think he’d be a good QB. I agree that Chuddy will look for hard-nosed guys.

Give me one example of Clausen puting himself above the team?
I can’t think of one, and Clausen has more mobility and pocket presence than you’d think.

He wants to be the best and has “all” the tools to be a great QB. Trent is a sally, Tebow is not. Trent is gun shy and is afraid to throw it downfield unless is a straight fly to the sideline, tebow is not. It took 6 weeks to change his throwing motion, and in six more weeks he will have defenses down pat. He is a natural winner and leader, what more do you want from your QB?
O and by the way, wanting and trying your best and being determined can take you very very far in life. It got me into medical school. Im not the smartest guy naturally but i worked damn hard for it and that makes you a better person and more appreciative in the end
I definitely agree about hard work, it’s just that it’s different in a job which there are hundreds of thousands in the world, versus one that has 32.

Throwing Change
Yeah, heard his throwing motion still a problem. I wouldn’t gamble on Tebow.

The bills will more than likely be a top 15 pick next year. With a couple of years of solid drafts, hopefully they can right the ship.
I agree, lets get past being the 11th pick first before we consider 15 + pick range

IF no OT, then NT is the pick (or trade down)...
If the Top 3 LTs are off the board at Pick #9, the Bills will look to trade down (maybe with a team that wants to trade up to get McClain) and turn their attention to a NT (likely Dan Williams or Terrance Cody, if they trade down too far). Personally, I really like Clausen as a QB to build around. However, the Bills have at least 2 projects (Edwards, Brohm) for whom Gailey can experiment with at the position… not to mention if a guy like Thigpen is eventually cut loose down the road. They will not stumble across a starting LT or NT… those guys simply do not get let go. They MUST draft either an OT or NT with their first pick. Clausen may drop further than most project, somewhat like Quinn in his draft year.
DC Chocolate City!
NO DT's
There are currently (7) Defensive Tackles on the Bills Roster … (5) Denfsive Ends …and (9) Linebackers. On the Offensive side of the Ball … there is 6 Wr’s on this team and (2) Huggins and Hawthorne are special teamers at best … This team needs another Quality Wr ASAP

They’re paying Delhomme 7 million in 2010 (he’s going to make 19 million combined in 2010!). I think he’s their starter and they’ll look for a guy to develop behind him. As such, i’m not sure they’ll take Clausen with their top pick. I think Cleveland is the team that will challenge the Bills for ’Bow.

Whitehurst is Pete carrol’s QB of the future… not sure I am buying that. Petey knows very well that any young QB could be a bust, and i also think he likes clausen, and whitehurst as a back up, as Hasselbeck will be gone either by the beginning of this season, but at least at the end of 2010, and I still think Clasuen is his guy, although they too need big help on the OL front…. so you could be right
It is Brohm’s Bills jersey that is the least stained with doo-doo... GO BILLS
I don't really understand that sentiment. Care to explain?

Seattle’s move is curious indeed. It looks like they overpaid for Whitehurst, both in terms of money and draft compensation. It would seem to take the mystery out of their pick, which could keep teams from trying to trade up with Seattle to take Clausen (or Bradford if on the board)…..because what’s the point when Seattle has invested heavily at QB?
I wouldn’t put much stock in the Holmgren quotes. This is the time of year for rampant dishonesty. Surely Holmgren has to have noticed the way that Delhomme is prone to 4+ INT games. He might think highly of Seneca Wallace but highly enough to pass on Clausen or Bradford?
It can always get worse. Let me tell you how.
But again Ron, Cleveland paid Delhomme alot of money to come to town. I don’t know how they get beyond starting him at QB.

A lot of money on a short term deal. The short term is what makes it possible (likely?) they’ll still look to go QB early in the draft. It’s not like Wallace is their “QB of the future”.

Wallace and Cribbs might make that team about as unique as can be at the QB position. Though Wallace seems to have a bit of the traditional QB about him.

I want to like Clausen, but I see too many NFL personnel that claim to have him as a fringe 1st rounder and not a high 1st rounder. For instance, Daniel Jeremiah of Move the Sticks claims that he hasn’t talked to a single NFL scout/personnel guy who has Clausen rated as a high 1st rounder. I think the media likes Clausen more than the professionals actually do.
Don’t think it will happen, but I wouldnt mind it. I think chix is sold on giving one of our three a shot. Actually, I’m not sure Gaily cares about the QB, as long he (the QB) doesnt crew up that much.

he certainly seemed very concerned about it at his last presser. He said there will definitely be 4 QB’s going into training camp. If you recall, back when he was named coach, he said “we’ll be making a decision about the QB position in the next few weeks”. Obviously he doesn’t have much confidence in any of our existing QB’s. Unless he finds a starting QB via trade of FA before the draft, it’s basically guaranteed the Bills will draft a QB.

We need to build the O-line, D-line, a LB or two, then BPA at WR...
…… let the 3 stooges battle it out. Maybe a turd will float to the top of the toilet water.
Next year, get a QB who is worthy of the pick (the only one this year is Bradford) and build more depth on the team. We’ll be sitting nice next year after three good drafts.

The way I see drafting a WR,
would be that we take a late round WR. I would love Jordan Shipley in the 4th-5th, maybe even later drafted by Buffalo, he’s a damn good WR. I disagree about Bradford being the only QB worthy, Clausen is too.

Why won't Washington take him at 4?
I’d say there’s actually a decent chance that they do. They’re in the same position as the Bills: new regime=new QB. Just because they tendered Campbell doesn’t mean they won’t try to upgrade.
My closet has...
Jim Kelly (x3), Rob Johnson, Todd Collins, Doug Flutie, Drew Bledsoe, JP Losman and Trent Edwards jerseys hanging in it. I have them seperated – jerseys I can still sport on the right side (only the Kelly, Flutie and Trent jerseys are there) and jerseys I shouldn’t have bought and wouldn’t be caught dead in on the left.
I’ve decided that from this point forward I’m not buying a jersey for our QB to do my part in trying to break our QB curse. The last two jerseys I’ve bought have MY name on the back…that way I only jinx myself.
why is trent on the right? Bledsoe was a great QB over his whole career, if anything he deserves to be on the right more than trent
Trent’s still on the team and could still start games for us…I’ll root for him when he does so that’s why it’s still on the right.
As for Bledsoe, I think you’re right in that his career was a success but his stint in Buffalo wasn’t. I don’t have fond memories (maybe a few from 2002).

Ok one thing,
his parents learned from the mistakes of Rick and Casey, they were good QB’s ( Div-!) but not that great. I’m pretty sure they both went to Tenn. but could be wrong there, I’ll agree that they never made it in the NFL. The difference between them and Jimmy is that from a young age 7th grade, Jimmy started working with some quality QB coaches thru high-school. Also, his father wanting to ensure Jimmy made it bigger than the other two brothers, he held him back when Jimmy was younger, thus making him older than the other players. Then Jimmy went and played for three season under arguably the best QB coach out there, learning a true NFL style offense (pointing out the mike, deciding what kinda set the D is in, having the ability to change plays when he saw something, and running a great 2 min drill). His brothers never nearly had the recources compared to what Jimmy had available for him, leading to him becoming the only true great QB from the Clausen brothers. Make an argument other than what his brothers did, do you have bothers and have you done better or worse than them? I’d say from reading that post they made it better off, which is prolly why you hate Jimmy, he succeded and his brother didn’t, maybe just like you. The last argument I just made is the exact same one you made about Clausen but mine is better and not in all CAPS. Also, I really am sick of the argument he’s from California, he’s lived in Indiana for 3 years, dealing with the winters, just as bad as Buffalo. I’m done with you. I’m out and watching BBall.
