Bills RFA tender levels announced
The Buffalo Bills announced the players they tendered Thursday, but didn't reveal the picks. Here they are, courtesy of the NFL:
* Safety George Wilson, second-round pick
* Tight end Derek Schouman, second-round pick
* Cornerback Ashton Youboty, third-round pick
* Linebacker Keith Ellison, sixth-round pick

i’d have thought that youboty and ellison’s tenders wouldn’t be that extreme. i figured youboty’s would be a fourth or fifth, same as ellison.

If it’s not a 1st and 3rd, 1st, or 2nd round tender the compensation is based on what round they were drafted in.
Yes. Both Ellison and Youboty got the lowest tender possible, which would return to Buffalo original-round pick compensation. Youboty was drafted in the third round in ’06, and thus his low tender is a third-rounder. Ellison was a sixth-round pick.

Sounds like Gailey has Schouman prominently in his TE plans.
I’m still a little surprised Incognito wasn’t given an original round tender. That would be an acceptable salary even if he was a backup. If he was a starter it’d be a bargain. Makes me think that there’s other issues at play.
Well, you’d certainly hope Schouman was a part of the plans. If they’d let him walk, they’d have exactly ONE tight end on the roster today.

Maybe said a different way, I think Gailey, from the tender given Schouman, looks at him as someone who can be a contributor on this team for several years. As opposed to just keeping him around because they don’t have numbers at the position today (and if that was a concern they just would have kept Fine).

Actually, no, they wouldn’t have. My guess is they both like Schouman AND wanted the numbers, which is why he got the surprisingly high tender.

Prominent may be too strong. I have no way of knowing. It just seems to me that he thinks Schouman is worth more than a 7th Round pick. The next highest level of tender about 7th round was 2nd.

that makes more sense
Who knows how Schouman’s rehab is going, but it certainly would have been a different season for the TE position had he not gotten hurt so early and so badly. Man, 2009 sucked…

the whole team looked good the first and second game...
TO and his drops, plus McKelvin’s fumble were such an omen when I look back… should have seen it comin’

Yeah , but Shou had like 7 grabs in just over 1/2 a game in that Bucs game.
He was a great check down option – and Trent as we all know needs great check down options !
