Jake Delhomme coming North?
He'd be owed $4.16 million in 2010, $5.12 million in 2011 and $3.4 million in 2012, this money is guaranteed to be paid by the Panthers.
Any thoughts that we make a true Southern Connection (nix, gailey, delhomme) and bring Jake to help mentor our young QB (whoever it may be)? I do not know what to think about this, I am just posing the question. With him being paid by the Panthers for the next couple of years (guaranteed money), we wouldn't have to throw huge amounts of money to him. Plus, if reports are true about giving Trent a chance this year maybe Jake can be a mentor. Let me know your thoughts!
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Don't the Panthers get off the hook,
if he signs with another team? Man would this be a bad idea. He’s like Pennington with even less upside.

I knew it.
I knew there would be at least one fan out there that would post this.
NO!!!!!
He’s terrible. And that is being kind.
The Missing Link in the Chan Gang
I’ve read more than one fan post that giving Trent Edwards another shot would be a good idea, so it’s not the most asinine thing I’ve read on this site…Delhomme makes sense if Buffalo drafts a QB in the first round and lets him sit for a year. He’s not the answer, but he’s unquestionably a better QB than Trent Edwards.
Just say no...to Trent Edwards at QB.
I hate the guy, I’d much prefer to give Edwards another chance.
Nothing left to say... the clock is ticking...
To each his own
I’d much prefer to give Rob Johnson another chance than watch Trent Edwards.
Just say no...to Trent Edwards at QB.
agreed, Trent is the definition of sally, for better terms. He is an absolute coward and joke. I didn’t like him from day one. Although i did have high hopes for Losman, lol. I guess the fact we took him in the first and prayed he pan out had something to do with it. And that he reminded me a little of Flutie cuz he could scramble.
How does Delhomme make more sense than Trent Edwards? Delhomme is a Tommy John guy, one who comes from teh Bayou and who has always played in fairly decent weather. I find his talents to be ill-suited, even if that elbow wasn’t just big league chew.

Your worried about weather, but not about Trent Edwards’ woeful production, lack of leadership, and subpar talent? My priorities are different.

Well, I personally hope they don’t subscribe to your priorities. =)

Brett Favre, not from the Bayou, but sort of close… he does alright in cold weather.
I’m not settled on Southerners playing up North, but I am definitely of the opinion that Californians should not be playing up North.
yeah Pats should release Tom Brady.........
and Green Bay should dump Aaron Rodgers……

Carson Palmer’s another one.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
Yeah, but Carson Palmer stinks

I would too
but that’s only because he’s better than what we’ve had. I just think he’s as overrated as any QB in recent history, and I don’t think he’s very good. He should be a top 3-4 QB every year with the talent he has, yet he totally underwhelms year in, year out….

I'd take Jake, he is much better than any of our QB's
Plus, remember when Warner looked horrible for the Giants and everyone thought he was done? He did pretty well in Arizona. Just cuz the guy had a bad year I wouldn’t count him totally out. I like Jake and would be happy if he played a year or two for us while we searched for our future QB
That comparison is not very fair to Kurt Warner. Granted, Warner has played with much better offenses than Delhomme. On the other hand, Steve Smith made a lot of plays to improve Delhomme’s stats.
uh
much better is a strong assessment. dont care how much you hate the current qb’s, delhomme is not much better than any of them….

taking a team to the super bowl and almost beating the patriots is yes a lot better than any of our QB’s have and ever will do. The patriots were even cheating then, so thats pretty damn good they almost won. He also took them to the AFC championship game a couple years back too, maybe 2 years ago. The guy isn’t as bad as you think he is. He had a bad year, just like Cutler, but I’d take Jay Cutler or Jake any day over Trent Edwards who CANT PUT MORE THAN 3 POINTS UP AGAINST THE BROWNS!!!! seriously dude, think.

If he’s so good why’s he available?

well seriously, calling a guy who took a team to a superbowl not as good as our QB’s is absurd, and sorry if it sounded condescending but the guy was a very good player in this league and may still have enough in the tank to help us win while we search for our QB. I hate people who still are obsessed with Trent Edwards. The guy is horrible and couldn’t put up more than 3 points on the Browns. He gets injured every other play. He should be on dancing with the stars and not the football field.
He took them to the Super Bowl in 2003
Who cares about that at this point?
Did you watch how absolutely pathetic Delhomme has been lately?? He’s literally a walking turnover.

Jake Delhomme is far worse than Trent Edwards. He has always made poor decisions and is perennially among the leagues leaders in INTs
in his day.
Oh hey, look, the reason why we don’t want him. He might have been pretty good back in the day, but I’m not about to call up Dante Culpepper because HE used to be good.

well again, Warner was termed done after his bad stint in NY, and look what he did? Not saying Jake could do it like Kurt(especially since ARi is way better than us), but he is a better option right now than any of our QB’s. Even if he was here for 2 years while we groomed someone would be way better than if we groomed someone with Trent Edwards or Fitzy.
So did Jim Kelly but I wouldn’t want him starting for the Bills this season.

He was decent QB
Until some teams figured out you could put a defender on Steve Smith man on man and run a 2 deep 4 short zone behind that and rush 4.
Then he became an interception machine when teams who figured that out played him.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

Also
Fox never adjusted to this by flooding the deep zones, with 4 WRs.
I have also seen the same tactic used against Trent when Mangini was coach of the Jets.

Delhomme is beyond terrible. If we want multiple turnovers a game, we might as well run the Wildcat with Jackson 100% of the time.

I'm
not too fond of having veterans on the team that have no long-term potential. Way too often coaches will start the vet and keep young guys on the bench because “they’re not ready.” Jauron and Fewell drove me bananas with that crap. The way young players learn is by PLAYING. Sometimes coaches just don’t get that if you go 7-9 starting mediocre veterans you’re worse off than going 4-12 starting youths.

I agree with most of your post, except that QBs often do better developing on the bench for a year or two (e.g. Aaron Rodgers).

Delhomme
I’ve been thinking about this one.
He looked terrible last year. So bad that you have to question whether or not he can even play anymore. That’s a pretty big fall from being considered a top 10 QB (can’t dispute top 10 at least) just a few years prior.
It wasn’t a tired arm. He came out in the first game completely out of sync – missing throws down the field almost so badly you thought the receiver must have run the wrong route.
My question is – how does that not show up in your camp? I don’t remember how he did in the preseason, but I don’t remember any contraversy going into the season about who the QB was.
If it’s possible to diagnose these things, and if he did something new with his strength and conditioning, or maybe even a change in scene, why wouldn’t you at least bring him into camp?
I think he’s definitely going to be on the sidelines with someone this season. it’s hard for me to come up with a long list of teams that would better suit him than Buffalo – merely from his perspective I mean. He would have a chance to start. He would be a rock star if the Bills actually started winning. He could even pull a “T.O.” and sign a 1-year deal to prove he has something left. I think you’ll see teams clamouring for 1-year deals with an expired CBA,
From Buffalo’s perspective, why wouldn’t you want him as part of a camp QB competition? Wost case scenario he’s holding a clipboard, and he wouldn’t be too expensive for that. Best case scenario he wins a fair and open competition and proves he still has a few years left. You draft a QB or continue to develop one on the roster behind him.
Knee-jerk reaction was “…no, he looked terrible.” But after some thought it’s not really such a terrible idea considering.
If I recall correctly,
He actually did look pretty bad in preseason, picking up from his playoff game against the Cards 2 years ago. The problem was they had put so much money into him, he basically HAD to start.

But we would actually need to have a young QB worth mentoring – not sure we have that piece as yet !

You could argue in favor of waiting until NEXT year before doing so rather than rolling the dice on a 2nd or 3rd rounder this season, in which case Delhomme would certainly not be the worst stop gap available.

NO
Thigpen would be a better option than Delhomme. If the Bills have any thoughts of drafting Tebow, Thigpen would be a natural choice and likely cheaper than the Vick as a scheme capable complement. Otherwise, we might as well muddle through with the hacks we’ve got and use a late round flyer on Crompton or UDFA for Kafka then try to get a franchise QB in next years draft. If Skelton slips to round 5, I’d grab him.
Delhomme is of no use to the Bills in any capacity other than maybe practice squad.
