Bring back Langston Walker - and other OL ideas
We need more O-Linemen. Before I get into the motives behind this move, let me give my opinion of the line so you can better gauge where I'm coming from.
LT: Bell - improved throughout the year. was getting better before he became injured. while he did have a fair chunk of penalties, this can be attributed to being thrown into a starting position possibly a year too soon. he still has potential, he still could become a very solid starter [don't need an elite LT, solid doesn't equate crap] if not better. give him another year to grow.
LG: Levitre - nothing to say. played well for a rookie, possibly better than Wood. leave him here. don't move him to LT; don't move him to RT.
C: Hangartner- would rather have Wood here, but the Hangman appears to be entrenched. didn't focus on him during games, but from what it sounds he is average at best. might as well keep him here until we move Wood to guard or find another center. once we do that, he would make a very solid backup. no reason to cut him. not the biggest priority to upgrade on the line.
RG: Wood was solid. Would rather have him at C, but until then he is fine here. Would have like to have Incogs back and playing here, or at C (maybe he gets less penalties there) but alas that is not the case. We could always find a decent OG in the later rounds and shift Wood over when he's fully recovered.
RT: Meredith might turn into something here. He has potential, but shouldn't be penciled in. That being said he has enough skill and potential to stay at the very least through training camp and as the primary backup at RT. Butler would have been solid here if he came back healthy, but he's not so good luck to him.
While I do think Bell could turn into something decent, I would fully support drafting Bulaga at 9 if he's available. If Okung was available I would be just as supportive. Anthony Davis and Bruce Campbell have too many question marks as actual players and appear to be nothing more than tremendous athletes at this juncture. Coming away from the draft in the 1st round with a very solid player is good enough. 5 solid players on the O-Line is easily good enough to win a championship. We need more solid players, so we shouldn't gamble just so we might find an elite player when our O-Line is somewhat in shambles. Bulaga doesn't [might not] have the most massive ceiling but he doesn't exactly have a low floor either -- even if Bell might develop Bulaga would be a great selection.
As for Langston Walker, a few things need to be pointed out. He was a solid RT in his time in Buffalo. Our running backs ran well behind the duo of Butler-Walker. The only problem with Walker (IMO) was that he was being paid too much. He never should have been moved to LT, and he never should have been cut after he failed. He would have at least been a solid backup (even if he is being overpaid we still need the depth). Who knows, maybe he is finally breaking down, but he is a UFA [ http://www.nfl.com/players/langstonwalker/profile?id=WAL257548 ]and we should at least bring him back to compete at RT for a much more modest contract.
It's an uncapped year. If he appears to be over the hill (at RT) then dump him again. He wont cost much and we need depth. People like Wade Smith and Langston Walker may not become good starters (and who knows, they may) but for a cheap price we can take a look at them at least as solid backups and secure our depth. If someone falls to us in the draft (maybe we see a good OT/OG in the 2nd/3rd/4th) that we think would be solid depth, then we can cut our losses in the forms of the vets.
This isn't building through free agency, it's setting our foundations.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Quick Edit -
draft Eric Decker. That is all.
Draft Eric Decker in the 2nd!!! Eric Decker > Golden Tate
Question
Why is it that Walker is unemployed, and has been for some time?
Hmmm.
The Missing Link in the Chan Gang
he was picked up by the raiders after we cut him.
how is that being unemployed for some time? does it cost us anything to bring him in for a visit?

The Raiders then cut him. OK?

They only signed him for the year, He’s a UFA now.
The more I see, the less I know.

I wouldn’t mind bringing back Walker. Hew as good for us and could probably still be good enough to start at RT, or at the very least be good depth behind Bell/Meridith/Rookie.

No to Walker
I have nothing bad to say about Walker. But lets go forward, Walker is gone, so be it. Next….
But there might not be a next. The Redskins just signed Artis Hicks and it looks like Pashos is going to resign with San Francisco (if he hasn’t already done so). We are running out of viable options for a veteran OT. Walker may simply be the best one available.
Why do we need a veteran OT?
We have the #9 pick and cat get an up and comer there and have them for a long time if we pick the right one (Bulaga).
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

Sounds
reasonable, draft one and use whomever as depth. Seems weird to release him then turn around and sign him again. Guy’s gonna feel like a jilted lover.
