Buffalo New Mock Draft

I know that free agency has just begun, and hopefully Buffalo gets some of the players they need to fill holes before the draft.  However, I hope to provide a good draft that will help Buffalo to at least make a run at the playoffs this year...(I know it is a long shot but I do believe we can make it).

1) Bryan Bulaga - OT, Iowa

Upside: Very good feet shuffle, slide and mirror in pass protection.  Plays with a terrific base and balance.  Stays square and is able to hangle inside moves and counters.  Is an aggressive run blocker and drives defenders off the ball.  Great finisher has an ornery playing temperament and seeks to bury defenders.  Shows pop and power in his punch and strikes with authority.  Is quick to the second level to cut off linebackers and can strike a moving target.  Controls defenders with his strong hands and does an outstanding rush.  Shows the ability to dominate.

Why Draft: Quickness, agility and balance.  Can play four positions if needed, however Buffalo would use him at LT and lets face it Gailey is known for his strong running game.  So Bulaga is the man that can help protect and QB's blindside and help Jackson move the chains.

 2) Cam Thomas - NT, North Carolina

Upside: Strong rarely ever gets knocked off the ball and is an incredibly strong bull rusher.  Extremely powerful with strong hips can split the double team and collapse the pocket.  Quick and athletic and moves very well for his size.  Tough as nails and will battle through injuries played with a broken hand all of his senior season.

Why Draft: With the Bills moving to 3-4 we need a strong tough NT and Thomas brings that to the table.  A straight ahead power rusher, will plug the inside and freeing linebackers in a 40 front or stacking the line in a three man front.

3) Eric Norwood - OLB, South Carolina

Upside: Strong, thick squarley built with broad shoulders.  Fine instinicts is flexible and has natural leverage to bend off the edge get underneath blockers and trim the corner.  Strong handed to re route receivers off the line.  Maneuvers through traffic with his head up and pursues fast to the ball.  Determined blitzer from the outside good second effort if blocked.  Well respected vocal leader.

Why Draft: The move to 3-4 is a big move and with Poz and Mitchell in the middle we only have Maybin on the outside.  I think Norwood would take the OLB in Buffalo and prove to be a crowd favorite.  I would love to see Buffalo have a strong defense and our secondary does not need work with the addition of Thomas our D-line is anchored with Norwood we have a well rounded defense (as long as there are no injuries).

4) Tony Washington - OT, Abilene Christian

Upside: Very fluid mover who is ligh on his feet.  Excellant overall body length that allows him to recover easily when out of position.  Good lateral agility and mirror ability in pass protection.  Can bump and steer defenders, competes hard, can handle hard coaching.

Why Draft: WE NEED A LINE, bottom line we have Hangartner in the middle with Wood and Levitre at Guards and now we would have Bulaga at LT and Washington I would move to RT.  That makes our line strong with young talented guys.

5) Antonio Brown - WR, Central Michigan

Upside: Elusive with the ball in his hands sees the cutback and can back the first man miss.  Durable never missed a game played through a turf toe injury.  Provides versatility as an accomplished put and kick returner.

Why Draft: We need a godo slot receiver and I believe Brown could move into that position with the strong teaching skills of Gaily.  Could provide to be a good returner till he moves into a WR position.

6) Sean Canfield - QB, Oregon State

Upside: Very good size, stands tall in the pocket and works through progressions.  Is patient steps into his throws and can deliver the ball with touch.

Why Draft: I know he is no LeFevour or Skelton but lets face it there is talk of Edwards being back as starter and I would not mind seeing that under Gailey.  Canfield could compete to be 3rd QB and develop maybe in a back up in a few years.

7) Shelley Smith - OG, Colorado State

Upside: Squarely built with a well distributed fram.  Firm anchor strength can drop his hips and hold his ground. Plays with a wide base and good knee bend.  Runs his feet on contact and flashes some pop in his punch and natiness earholing defenders.  Moves his feet well enough to pull and trap.

Why Draft: I would like to see some depth in the O-line with his play style Wood and Levitre could help him become more physical and maybe a year out Wood could move to Center nad Smith to Guard.  But either way we need depth and he is built for a running game.

Overall with my draft I want to see the O-line have depth and be move physical.  Bulaga and Washington would anchor the Tackle positions which is what we need.  Thomas and Norwood could help out the run defense and are great additions to D.  I know WR and QB are not what people are expecting but I dont believe we can get a QB in the 3rd or 4th that will compete for a starting job.  If there is someone on the table and Buffalo takes him great but I would rather see us build a O-line that can protect a QB in the future.

I know some of you will not agree with this draft however I believe that building and O-line and adding Norwood and Thomas in this draft would be great.  No QB can function without a line so why not build one and than bring in a QB after we know we can protect him (so we dont see him get taken out like Edwards and than come back and suck). Let me know what you think this is my idea for Buffalo.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
