I decided to write a piece about a potential draftee named Riley Cooper. I'm sure many of you have seen me mention him before, but I really think this guy can be a late round find ala Andre Reed (round 4 pick just to remind everyone). Plus I figured it would be more fun to talk about Cooper than complain about whatever people are currently agitated about regarding the Bills.
First lets go with some vitals, Cooper is 6-4 (6-3 on some sites) and 220+ pounds. He creates a big target and so far in his career has been able to stay away from the injury bug. The only injury I can recollect is that he broke a finger his sophmore year causing him to miss a few weeks. He runs around a 4.44 40 yd dash, so he has plenty of speed.
His freshman campaign saw very limited WR duties. In contrast he became a demon on special teams and made a name for himself with his physical style of play. He continued to improve each and every season culminating in his senior year break out season in which he caught 51 balls for 961 yards and 9 tds. Not too shabby, although that is the first year he was "the man." Hes known as one of the better WR blockers in the draft class, and has plenty of room to develop into an over the middle complement to Lee Evans.
The downside of him is some route-running. He tends to round off routes to get to a spot faster and needs general route running development. Hence the 4th-5th round grade on him. I know WR is very low on the list, but usually when you get to the later rounds, its always good to add SP depth and give Hardy some competition.
Plus imagine if the Bills did draft Tebow. Riley would be the perfect security blanket!
Please let me know what you guys think.
