what does anybody think about maybe adding these guys?

jamal williams DT

ryan lilja OL

larry foote ILB

Lilja is only 28 y/o and has played for a great team. Williams is on the tailend but can prove as a valuble stop gap for a few years. And Larry Foote has played for some great defenses and has ties to Whaley and could be the qb to our defense to lead the new 3-4

The best way I see this playing out....

I think the Bills could have a great offseason if they made any of the following moves:

-Sign Jamal Williams (a long shot, but it makes too much sense)

-Sign Alge Crumpler (old, but could be a stop-gap and help mentor Nelson)

-Sign one of the following:
1. Larry Foote (a “safe” pick-up and a perfect QB for our new 3-4)
2. Joey Porter (as much as I cannot stand him, I think he’s capable of 10 sacks)

-Sign Laverneus Coles (Could come cheap. Still capable of 1000 yard in my mind)

-Explore trades for an offensive tackle
1. Whitner and our 2nd round pic for Marcus Mcneil or similar player

-Address the following in the draft:
Round 1: OT (make play for QB if Mcneil trade plays out)
Round 2: Trade for OT or select DT
Round 3: QB
Round 4: OLB
Round 5: G/C
Round 6: OT
Round 7: DE

Disclaimer- You will notice that I did not really touch on QB. I think Trent is a good quarterback (he just needs protection like 99% of the other QBs in the league). Unless we are handed Bradford or Clausen, I think Trent starts.

Other than relying on Hardy as a #2 wideout ... pretty good

I think a 2nd round WR is a realistic possibility

I’ve been very against signing an aging player to a big contract to be nothing more than a stopgap … unless that player could tie together an entire unit. I’ve spent a lot of time debating Chad Pennington because I think he could improve the entire offense and I think Jamal Williams could have the same effect on the defense. If there is one player that Buffalo could overspend on and I wouldn’t care, it’s Jamal Williams.

Larry Foote would be great. He was let go by Pittsburgh and then had a mediocre year in Detroit. But I think he’s the ideal stopgap type player for this team.

Lilja wasn’t a bringing in a huge paycheck in Indy, so being cut has to be significant. I think offensive lineman from teams with elite QBs get overrated. And Buffalo doesn’t need a guard that much, especially one who probably won’t be cheap and will want a long term deal. I’d pass on Lilja and the other top FA guards.

Foote is the only Free agent right now that I would actually be thrilled to see the Bills sign.

Jamal Williams would be an excellent move and I too wouldn’t mind paying the man – I like Lilja but he is a finesse blocker and we need smash mouth lineman – Foote is a solid starter but not dominant at his position, that being said he has produced in the 3-4 and we need people with prior knowledge and awareness

The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.
