Jets get Santonio Holmes for a 5th round pick
Wow. I guess the market for problematic but talented offensive players is as bad as we've heard.

honestly i would have loved for the bills to pick this guy up
Holmes for a 5th or Holmes for Lynch would have been awesome.
uhgg
You realize that the Jets just completely and utterly fleeced the Steelers and got a 25 year old 1200+ yard receiver for nothing don’t you?

If that’s the case then why did the league’s 30 other teams stood pat and let this happen? I don’t think the Steelers’ FO would give up holmes w/o shopping him around at least. I would hardly call this a fleecing; real life isn’t madden, there are other things that matter than their rating/stats.
Holmes
Is a nice player. If he gave consistent effort week in and week out he could be a great player. So good trade for Jets. As a side note anyone know how many draft picks the Jets have left?

I hope their building through FA backfires. History has shown it’s not the way to build, though New England has made a living on it recently.

It's not nec. true that FA is a bad way to build
read this article: it explores how much value teams get from the draft:
http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/17/n-f-l-draft-which-teams-build-wisely/
The Jags get the most value at 82.2% whereas the superbowl champion Saints only 49.9%
Sure the Colts got 70% but by that token so did the 49ers.
People talk about what a huge risk free agency as if the draft isn’t a risk!!!

well I think a lot of it stems from the money part of it too – sure the first 15-20 picks are expensive – but FA can be really, really expensive as well.

A little taste of Marshawn Lynch’s possible market value?
"the true is we havent had SQUAT, SQUISHY,SAQUASUM SAQGUANDO, DIDLY DORI BING TURY CRAP" - abayarde
ouch
if holmes is worth a fifth coming out a career season then things are looking sorry for poor Marshawn. better call the CFL…

This is a great move for the Jets on paper, just like their acquisition of Cromartie was.
But Sexy Rexy is gambling big-time that his culture can keep these fools in line. Time will tell if he’s right.

Not only that
but apparently (according to PFT) he is facing a 4 game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. There is also talk that the 2 teams may have a wink/nod deal for exchanging leon washington if/when he signs his tender offer.
as for the suspension
I’m sure the Jets factored that in, what people should realize is this player is 25 years old, what’s 4 games in 100?

and they have Braylon Edwards under contract for one more year
so that takes care of the four games, then they let Santonio play and let Braylon walk next year.

Yeah, they love those big, splashy moves that can excite the fans. One thing is for sure: This team is making a lot of gambles and they clearly believe they’re capable of winning it all this or next season. However, their O-line is only going to get worse – both Faneca and Woody are declining in play, and Braylong Edwards remains an average WR until he grows up. Defensively they have a lot of talent, but again there are questionmarks, especially surrounding their aging D-line as all three starters are over 30.

worked pretty well for them last year
They went from listless to ferocious in a year. Ryan appears like a goofball to the media, but he is a very very smart man and I think works the buffoon/fat/stupid angle to his advantage.

Man, Sexy Rexy is reserved for Grossman!
So what are the chances for an Avalanche vs. Sabres finals, eh?

This looks like to me that the Steelers are getting tired of their players getting their names in the papers for all the wrong reasons. They wanted to make an example of someone and you can’t cut or trade their franchise QB so the WR takes the hit. And now the Jets have a pretty good group of WRs…..
No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.
And another factor in this
Is that Holmes apparently wanted to playin a bigger market.

Sounds like the Steelers pussyfooting around to me.
If they REALLY want to send a message, kick out Roflsburger, not his star receiver. Either way, really dumb move on the Steelers part.

The Jets are now the scariest team in the AFC East in my eyes.
They just added Holmes, they previously added both Cromartie, who will work wonders opposite Revis. And they also Added LT, and lost Jones (slight downgrade, but not enough to hinder the team as a whole).
Plus there are rumours that they are about to sign Jason Taylor.
Anyone else think that the Jets are gearing up for a hampionship run? I do.

don’t forget the Pats – but ya, the Jets are looking good. however, THAT’S why they play the games

I am in no way afraid of the Pats as a team this year. I am afraid of their Offense (any offense run by Tom Brady is scary) but not as much as last year. Moss is aging, and after Welker their WR’s are marginal. Their running game is average. And their D is a BIG question mark.
I see them as pushing for a playoff spot, but not as a championship contender next year. But then again, as you said, thats why they play the games.

too soon to judge
i refuse to judge any roster before the draft happens.
...so I guess now I root for chan gailey...
Santonio Holmes, Cromartie, and Tomlinson got nothing on Cornell Green.
Man, the Jets are like a fantasy football team this off season. At least if they don’t win the Super Bowl, they sure as hell had some fun in the offseason. Jets fans must really be looking forward to this year.

which is why they are such angry fans
when they get let down yet again.

I honestly see the Jets as championship contenders next year, at least on paper. Their team is VERY talented. But they could deffinatly run into some caracter issues during the season. Still a very scary team though.

we beat them last year
and they havent added all that much. Both their lines are older and QBs tend to have sophomore slumps. They also lost Thomas Jones their best offensive player.

Rex Ryan also wont be catching anyone off guard this year
a lot more film.

Agree with everything you just said, but they are still the scariest team in the AFC East in my eyes.

he sure did
but they knocked Trent out of the game. We were really bad last year and they found a way to lose to us.

I wish we had this excitment on the bills
The jets will be really good this year because they are doing whetever possible to win
Yeah building through the draft is a good way to build a team but they have acquired a lot of talent and have no reason not to be better than last year, but they still have to play.
The bills should make a move for Gaither but will not,
do something to better this team!
Cornell Green?!?!?
The Jets and Miami have done a lot and have gotten a lot better, we have done nothing
"Hold ya chin up...nuh nuh nuh...gone" -Marshawn Lynch-
we added a new coach
a new GM, switched defensive schemes, added a great 3-4 end, a good 3-4 ILB, opened a QB competition.
The Jets added a WR one suspension away from a year long suspension, a corner who is a big time playmaker but gets burned routinely, let go a running back who led the AFC in rushing for a guy who is clearly declining. Whats the big deal? i think our off-season is more exciting.

Just Venting
i was reading the article over at ESPN and they are all over the Jets’ Nu^$
But we get no respect for any moves because we have yet to produce.
Thanks for being a voice of reason to my negative rant
"Hold ya chin up...nuh nuh nuh...gone" -Marshawn Lynch-
haha no problem
Im sure you’ll do the same for me sometime soon!
ESPN never gives us any love ,ever. I cant wait till we’re good again and watching ESPN change their tune.

huh?
i think our off-season is more exciting.
The jets added pieces to a team that went to the AFC Champ game and arguably got better…..
Meanwhile for the what 11th year in row…..the expectations for us couldnt be any lower.

the jets were 9-7
and snuck into the playoffs because teams laid down. They had a magical run to be sure but lets not pretend they were powerhouses. They added a young troubled corner who has a habit of being out of position (reminds me of a young DeAngelo Hall), an over the hill LT, and a very talented receiver who is one suspension away from a full year out of the league and who will miss four games. Take away the big names and their moves lose their luster when you look at what they actually added. They have had a good off-season but not an epic one as some are making it seem.
Ours on the other hand has resulted in a new regime including a whole new coaching staff and a whole new front office from Gailey to Edwards to Nix to Whaley etc, etc. We’ve totally changed defensive schemes and added new pieces to that scheme. Excitement doesnt just come from winning. The Jets off-season last year was more exciting than theirs this year. We are entering a new era.
"you just have to know there's always going to be adversity. None of these games are going to be easy. Nothing will be given to us" - Paul Posluszny
That team was in the AFC championship game last season. They didn’t get there in a day, it took them years of great drafting, several years of free agency and a new head coach to get them there.
Comparing them to us is just idiotic. Everyone KNEW they were going to try and make big splashes in free agency, and everyone KNEW that the Bills were not. Anyone who thought they were is ignorant of what Nix has been saying all along.
So what are the chances for an Avalanche vs. Sabres finals, eh?
