This is a first, at least in the modern era, that the NFL Draft will take place over a three day period. It is my understanding that starting this Thursday, 4/22 at 6:30pm the first round of the NFL draft will commence with each team selecting in this round having a ten minute window to chose their player. Friday 4/23 at 7:30pm the second and third rounds will commence with teams having seven minutes in round two to make their selection followed by a five minute selection process for round three. When rounds 1-3 are complete we enter the marathon for rounds 4 - 7 on Saturday. I believe it starts in the am. I consider rounds 1-3 as critical rounds. Rounds where key additions to our team are selected with the expectation of providing much improved depth and possible starters come September. Not to mention the higher value rounds when it comes to salary for the players. I have some thoughts about day three this year and am very curious to hear your opinions on this. This is a first, at least in the modern era.
Day three, round four. The draft begins with teams having the opportunity to select players that were not selected in the first two days. (Duh)! Approximately, 100 players have been selected to this point and teams are still looking, eye balling specific players that they have identified as a quality addition to their roster. I am guessing that round four and five are becoming much more valuable to a teams roster more than a teams salary cap. I can't ignore having multiple picks in rounds 1-3 being of major impact but having an early pick on day three or multiple picks early in day three have gained much more value added impact than years past. Teams will have more time to reorganize their boards and plan for meeting their team needs. I could be way out in Left field on this, but from a strategical stand point, I can see some teams maneuvering into position for these early day three picks. Some teams already have. I guess what I am looking for here is your opinions on why stretch this out over a three day period when the two day draft was an accepted philosophy. Other than the media circus that evolves around this portion of an NFL season, what other strategies can be available to teams and more importantly, the Buffalo Bills. To start things off, I will say that it is unfortunate for us that our additional picks don't come into play until round six and seven.
