"I like running back C.J. Spiller, but I’m not sure how the Bills can make big plays when they can’t block anyone. They feel Levi Brown (seventh round) can compete for a starting job at quarterback, but I strongly doubt his arm can handle the elements in Buffalo. His arm is weak, and he never seems to throw a tight spiral, so this will be interesting."

Tired of those articles

I think I liked it more when people DIDN’T pay attention to us. Why don’t we just let the whole thing play out before everybody makes their decisions.

Eh...

…What I find amusing is that people will talk about the Bills having drafted some pretty good talent this year, but because they didn’t draft based on ‘need’ people blast the draft as being a failure.

The Bills stuck to their board and didn’t reach for a tackle (really, the 49ers reached for their tackle but the Bills failing to grab one at 9 was bad? Or not taking Clausen when he fell to the late second round…?)

I still believe this draft should be judged in conjunction with next draft. Troup is the only questionable pick and it’s my guess he was a result of our inability to move up to grab Dan Williams (my guess on who the Bills wanted to move up for).

It is likely the Bills avoided the QB’s in this class not only due to the questions surrounding them, but the hope of a rookie cap next year. Which will make spending a top pick or even moving up to grab a top prospect a much more feasible plan.

The other funny bit to this is when the Bills have drafted based on needs vs. BPA, they get panned for taking subpar talent too early. It’s shocking but bad teams don’t seem able to ‘win’ with the draft gurus unless the BPA happens to be a player of need.

Walter Football had Troup as their third-best NT prospect behind Dan Williams and Mount Cody.

I worded that poorly.

I call Troup questionable because of my belief the Bills wanted Dan Williams. I’m uncertain if he was a BPA or a need pick at that point.

Ahhhh. I think they wanted Williams more, too. There were so many good NTs, though, that I don’t think it was a reach.

Man, I’d take Spiller over Williams every day of the week and twice on Sundays. At 26, he was a great value. At 9, not so much. Trading down for him would be o.k., but I’d rather trade down for an LT and still take Troup in the 2nd.

I understand, I think. As far as who the Bills were attempting to move up for, my guess would be the sliding Bulaga. Nix made the comment that the player they were interested in was gone before they could make their move. Bulaga was drafted 2 spots before Tebow and 3 before Williams.

Overall I’m happy with the draft. I’m not an avid college fan so I base a ton of my information off of forums, scouts, and whatever mocks I can dig up. But the Bills seem to have a consensus of having picked talented players, just not where the ’guru’s’ wanted us to.

I think the reason I’m hopeful (in part), is because Nix and Gailey give the impression of a plan. A several year plan on how to rebuild. Where over the last few years, it’s felt more like the Bills backed into the draft and had no idea how to plan over a stretch of time.

Critiquing drafts is a fantastic opportunity for every wannabe sports writer to parade themselves as experts, because there’s no immediate way to prove them wrong. I’d guess it’s their biggest freebie of the year.

The Pollack article is a worthwhile read, IMO. At least it’s objective, with supporting information.

National Football Post

I thought the guy "Dave"’s comment was spot on. Build an identity as a run team. With the switch to the 3-4 we needed parts – not much chance of excelling with it. Wasn’t like we were going to get pass rushers to be effective if we can’t hold the interior line on D- edge rushers are kind of pointless if they keep running it right up our gut.

People seem freaked out about how this draft went. I’m not thrilled with it, but theoretically it seemed like what this team needed to do. I’m giving Buddy and Chan an incomplete at least until I see the product on the field.
