Coleman will be an interesting name to watch. We’ve kind of trashed him here before for being a player unworthy of being drafted despite putting up good numbers at a college with a reputation for great defenses. But now that he has gone undrafted, those 10 sacks and 49 tackles are looking pretty good. Coleman has lead Auburn in sacks for three consecutive seasons. He’s got a decent shot to make the roster. Brand new coaching staff means that it’s a clean slate for all the vets and an undrafted player or two often makes the 53 man roster.
I don’t know much about Harris. I only saw Temple play once and it was their bowl game against UCLA. Harris was hardly on my radar and it didn’t help that he was a complete non-factor in that game. I do know that he has been very healthy over his entire career there.

Auburn is a big school and to lead in sacks is no fluke, at least on paper. Whats up with him? Was it his measurables, off-the-field issues? Injury?(probably not if he led n sacks for 3 years)
I know Auburn is a program that hasn’t seen the type of success it did in the late 8-s early 90s, but still… who knows

Athletic ability. Both in terms of measurables and scouting. He really lacks explosion. He’ll never beat a blocker on speed in the NFL. His sacks came from effort/motor and being a much more polished player than his college opponents. He’s the kind of player who lacks upside and will never be a good starter, but could stick in the league for awhile as an overacheiver. He’s going to be a tough player for the coaches to cut.

Considering our lack of depth at OLB, I think he’s got a real chance to make the roster. You’re 100% correct that the coaches will love his motor.

I don’t take any reviews that repeatedly use the word “never” seriously.

I didn’t mean that he will never, ever, once beat a guy with speed. I mean that he’s not the type of athlete who can consistently beat an an NFL tackle by running around them. And that’s pretty factual. I’m really comfortable saying he will never be able to do that. Sometimes, “never”, is the appropriate word. Coleman was very productive at the highest collegiate level. He’s got ideal size and good character. If he were athletic enough to beat NFL players based on that athletic ability, he would have been drafted.
If you’ve got a problem with me saying he’ll never be a good NFL starter, then I’ll counter with the fact that you could say that about every undrafted player and be right like 97% of the time (totally made up, but probably fairly accurate number). Also, understand that I’m giving an opinion. I’m not stating that Coleman will factually never do something. I’m stating that I don’t believe he will ever be a good starter and I feel stongly enough about that to use the word “never”. It’s a blog. I’m not selling a product or making an attempt to appeal to the masses. You have every right to ignore my evaluations on draft prospects.
