I let my agent handle all of that. We're not going to rush. We're going to make sure we cross our T's and dot our I's, however long the process takes. I just have to be patient. I can't get antsy about the situation. I've talked to a lot of veteran guys. My teammates aren't concerned about me holding out. They know that I want to be there, but at the end of the day it's a business. You have to do what's best for your family. It was good to get that support from veteran guys already — before negotiations have heated up.

Sounds like he's been hanging out with Maybin too long...

If he does hold out...
I hope its only for a few days. We went over this about a week ago(?) and I think its going to be pretty important for him to be there. If he misses the first few days I wont be too worried about it, but hopefully he gets in there quick.

Lets Go Buffalo!!
You do have to wonder...
…about why a rookie would potentially hold out playing a position where the team is already strong. CJ has no leverage at all because he’s a running back on a team that already has two legitimate starting running backs. He can’t hold out because the Bills are in a position where they can take a hard line with him. If he were a first round offensive tackle, the situation would be entirely different.

He is CHIX first 1st round pick.....he has leverage
That said, this a all a bunch of posturing. I doubt Spiller pulls a “Crabtree”…..he just wants a fair deal.

Its the same stuff every year, hopefully he doesn’t have Maybin’s agent, the guy who waits for everyone else to sign first.
Nope, they don’t have the same agent.

I hate when players say how much they want to be in camp, but they’re not because they have to look out for their family. I’m pretty sure your family will be set for life regardless of whether you get $18.5 million guaranteed or $19.0 million guaranteed.
Basically, they mean they want to be in camp once their agent feels they’ve squeezed out every last dollar. I wish someone would just say it. I’m not against getting all you can, but just be straight about it.

agreed.....the "family" BS is old and a joke to people who live in the "real world". I could live the rest of my life on his signing bonus alone.

I’m not sure why anyone would not expect a holdout. Its almost a guarantee that if a guy is taken in the top 15 its going to be a holdout of some form, I dont care how good of a guy he is. He’s happy to be getting veteran support on this huh? I wonder, is that support coming from Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch? I can see them now “Oh CJ, you have to get your money. Trust us. DO NOT rush into camp. We are behind you all the way, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. We’ll help you with everything once you get back, right Marshawn [wink wink]? Oh yea, sure Freddie [wink wink]”
In all seriousness, I dont expect to see him in camp anytime soon:
“We’re not going to rush…however long the process takes. I just have to be patient. I can’t get antsy about the situation”
hmmmmmmmmm, sounds like a holdout to me.

I was thinking the same thing Poz........
Lynch is smiling and saying, “Yea brother, sit out as long as it takes to get a fair deal.” While he’s thinking, “I need a great season so I get paid next year on a new contract with another team.”
Lynch, “Freddy! Look out for that rollerskate!” CRASH!
Freddy, “Ow!!!! My knee!”
Lynch, “Hey, how’d that think get in our locker-room?” wink-wink.

This is the part
of the game (the whole business end) that I personally as a fan can live without. Like Pistol above stated, please give me a break with this whole looking out for my family garbage. For those of us that have a hard time affording to go to a game nowadays & live paycheck to paycheck, you won’t find any sympathy here.

Whatever
I don’t know any players who have done anything different – it seems like every single rookie, every single year is willing to holdout for more money. It’s just how the game is played. And, simultaneously, every team is willing to wait them out (exception: Oakland.) Either side could always just give up on the last $500,000, but they never do. Just a reminder about what they really care about.
He's a RB
Granted he is probably going to do some other stuff, like line up in the slot an return kicks… But really what do you need to teach a RB.
Hold ono the ball
Run downhill towards the end zone
It is probably the most intuitive position on the field, I don’t think missing some time will really hurt him. Definetly not as bad as Maybin.
I got nothing.

we have a run oriented offensive coach who is going to have to get infinitely creative to make this offense hum – he’s got three talented running backs, only one talented wideout, no QB and no offensive line. Spiller missing time will hurt US. Our gameplans should be revolving around our 3 backs and creative schemes. Spiller missing time will hamper those efforts.

Not to mention, that the lineman who are trying to learn blocking assignments, and proper leverages will benefit from seeing how quick he is through the hole, and where his instincts take him on a given play. practice is for them to see all the moving pieces in action and diagnose the variables. EVERYONE needs that, and preferably with the guys who will be on the field DURING the games… you know, when it “matters”…. which they need to be prepared for. ESPECIALLY a rookie, RB or not.

Very true, I totally agree Ren.

I hope C.J. isn’t as stupid as Maybin was last year when he listened to his foolish agent that told him to hold out; the bottom line is very, very, very few players get anything out of holding out. Yeah, perhaps tops 100.000 dollars in incentives, but when you consider how (imo. unrightfully) much these players will make either way, in particular guys in the top 10 of the draft, and how they already create a bad vibe with the organisation (just look at the Steelers organisation), to me it doesn’t make much sense unless the owner is unreasonably frugal; for example the Rooneys simply don’t tolerate holdouts. Basically before they draft anybody they send the message that either the player does it their way (not to say getting screwed economically by any means) or he’ll suddenly face a very uphill climb to make an impact at all with them.
Of course, this salary issues has been caused by a lot of different variables, for example no league-wide deal on a constant salary-inflation for the draft (barring of course that the team’s income grows, naturally) and an idiotic owner in Al Davis (who always gives his draft picks far more money than they should considering the draft order).
"The one commonality in both places (Oakland and Buffalo) is an aging owner who keeps interfering too much. Ralph Wilson continually butts his nose in the football operation and tells the team who to draft"

Gotta Play the Game..
You will see this from all top rookies…his agent probably told him to post that…just trying to create leverage and send a signal to OBD…my prediction is he will hold out until 6 days into camp….
I dont agree with your prediction...
but I do agree with your assumption that his agent did in fact ask him to answer this question in this manner. Spiller has previously said he would like to be in camp on time…reducing his leverage (even if slightly) in the eyes of the team and his own agent (who is likely trying to get more money for himself rather than Spiller). This just swings the pendulum back to center mass…Spiller says its in his agent’s hands, eliminating the response from the team “We know CJ wants to be in camp on time, if you want to make your client happy, accept our offer and get him into camp.” I am willing to bet he signs the day training camp starts or shortly before.

Called it
He willowy likely miss a week or so. But it won’t mean anything, his team mates won’t care, and the only thing I will impact is his touches in pre season and his standing on the depth chart. Bills have all the leverage here….
