Buffalo Bills 2000s Worst-Decade Team - OT2 Selection
About a month and a half ago MattRichWarrenpresented us with his Buffalo Bills 2000s All-Decade Team series. And for about a month we voted on a series of poles to determine who was worthy of being on that team. But more often than not we also ended up complaining over the limited sometimes horrible talent that we had to pick from for any given position. So it was about at the TE position that I thought "hey why don't we also vote on the worst players that played for this team over the last decade?" And so here we are.
Now just like MattRichWarren'sseries I have a few criteria for players to be eligible for this team. They had to have played in at least a full season's worth of games in this decade to be eligible. Starting is not requirement, but you do have to have played significant amounts of snaps in those games. That means that, for example, the Bills 3rd receiver might make the list, but a 4th or 5th stringer wont be considered. That means that we wont end up voting for 7th rounders that ended up playing 2 snaps. These are going to be real players that played real roles on this team over the last ten years. And just because a player ended up on the All-Decade team does not mean that you can't also be on the worst-decade team.
With 90% of the vote (as of 9:30 pm July 6th) I think that it's pretty safe to say that Mike Williams won the first OT position on this team. So lets go on to the next guy who couldn't block a tortuse walking backwards.
Jonas Jennings
Drafted by the Bills in the third round of the 2001 draft, Jennings played4 seasons for the Bills. He played his rookie season at RT and his remaining 3 at LT. He played in 52 games for the Bills, starting all of them.Jennings did have some good moments for the Bills, but remained average at best. In his 4 seasons with the team the Bills the team rushed for between 1,596 and 1,874 yards and gave up 38 to 54 sacks.
Mike Gandy
Gandy played 2 seasons for the Bills (2005 and 2006). He played in 32 games for the Bills, starting all of them. But only 21 of those games were played at LT, as Gandy was moved inside to LG in favor of Jason Peters in the 2006 season. In his two seasons with the Bills the team had 1607 and 1552 rushing yards and allowed 43 and 47 sacks respectively.
Langston Walker
Arguably the Bills best RT of he decade, Walker was signed away from the Raiders in the 2006-2007 off-season. He played during 2 seasons for the Bills, starting all 32 games mostly at RT, although he did start a few games at LT relieving an injured Jason Peters. During his time with the Bills the team rushed for 1800 and 1842 yards and allowed only 26 and 38 sacks respectively. That 26 sacks allowed 2007 season was a decade low for the Bills. Walker was released by the Bills in the pre-season of the 2009 season in what will remain one of the biggest bonehead moves of the Jauron era.
Kirk Chambers
Chambers was signed as a street free agent in 2007 after playing two season with the Browns in 2004 and 2005. Yes that means that he did not play in the 2006 season. Chambers has arguably been the teams most reliable sub at OT for the Bills this decade, but has proven time and time again that he is not a player that you want starting games for the Bills. In his 3 seasons (so far) for the Bills Chambers has played in 46 games, starting 14 of them, playing mostly at RT but also spending some tine at RG and LG. In his seasons for the Bills the team has had between 1800 and 1867 yards rushing and has allowed between 26 and 46 sacks.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Why are people voting for Jennings here?
He was the best player of this group. In fact, he was a pretty good OT for us for almost 4 seasons. We’d kill for him on this team again!
In terms of playing time, Chambers is a misfit on this list. He was also the worst of the bunch, though I think Langston Walker’s contract and overall mediocre play was a bigger detriment to the overall team.

Agreed....Jennings is the best of the bunch.....I blame Matt
I really am not sure where to go here. IMO, Walker was a little overpaid, but was a very good RT. Chambers was a signed off the street, how much can you really expect from him. That leaves Gandy, who I remember being signed to replace Jennings and he failed miserably. He may have been able to play better for the Cards, or maybe they just have had a better QB? Either way, Gandy gets my vote.

Yeah, Gandy was my vote too. I don’t think it’s really fair to lump in a backup who never entered a season as a starter like Chambers. Walker was a solid RT. Jennings was a solid LT (at least in my opinion he was, and SF agreed when they gave him a big contract to pry him away from Buffalo). That leaves very mediocre Mike Gandy. He was put in a tough spot when asked to play LT, but he signed here to do that and I thought he was one of the worst LTs in the league when he was here.
SFC: Were you excited about Clausen dropping to the Bills pick? Or did you have a feeling that the Bills wouldn’t pick him anyway?
Galliford: Both, like when that hot chick waves at someone she knows standing behind you.
And the worst part is I meant Gandy the other day.
You can't have CHANGE without CHAN.

A frickin Men
Chambers is a bum – Walker was ok, jennings was above average and a damn fine supplimental pick when we lost Wiley, Gandy has proven himself elsewhere since. Chambers is the obvious bum here ! Well IMO anyway !
3 AM Monday morning games all 2010 - that's just dandy !
Gandy was given a nice FA contract to come in here and be a decent LT. Chambers was signed off the street.
I never expected Chambers to be good.

None of these guys were especially bad
Hard to vote.
Hard to believe we have not had
Tackles much worse than this in the last 10 years considering how much people bit ch about our OL. Wow are these really our worst !?!?!?!? Shoot – D Bell just about deserves a nod on the list considering the other names !

Demitrious still hasn’t played in a season’s worth of games, nither have Scott or Merideth, hence why they all got off the hook here.

If Bell and Merideth belong on this list, we are in big trouble this season

Actually stat wise Bell, Merideth, Scott and Butler (the 4 tackles that we used last year) beat out the duos of Williams and Jennings and Williams and Gandy, so they are horrible. And on the major plus size they all got better as the season progressed. You can look at Ron`s O-Line analysis as the proof.

That is what I am saying.....
I don’t think they will be that bad, but if they are worse than the others, we are in big trouble

i dont think im gonna vote on this one
jennings wasnt bad and neither was gandy. chambers didnt have the playing time to be considered the worst. i would say walker, based mainly on his contract. but even he wasnt “terrible” and was arguably a good RT.
so i abstain, and wish i could vote for mike williams twice.

Kind of the point. I sweat at this rate this team couldn’t even beat the 2008 Detroit Lions.

I thoughtChambers should have won(or lost I guess)
last round. Here in part 2 he’s a no brainer.
The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun
So you think that Chambers is a worst OT than Mike Williams was? Wow you really have a low opinion of Kirk.
