Chris Brown at BuffaloBills.com reports that Bills wide receiver Marcus Easley will be having surgery, while James Hardy will be out 7-10 days for reasons that aren't made clear in the story. With Felton Huggins waived earlier in the day, the Bills are suddenly thin at WR. Lee Evans, Chad Jackson, Donald Jones and Naaman Roosevelt are listed on the depth chart at one WR position, while Steve Johnson, Roscoe Parrish and David Nelson man the other.
We've been chatting about whether or not Hardy will make the opening day roster. His injury clearly doesn't help his cause. It does help Nelson, a player who seems to be outperforming Hardy. It also helps Jackson, a former second-round pick of the Patriots (who says Belichick gets every draft pick right?) who might finish camp in a battle with Hardy for the final WR roster slot. Nelson has an opportunity to cement his roster spot (as the fourth WR), and Jackson can put some (more?) distance between himself and Hardy for the fifth WR slot.
Jones and Roosevelt will have a chance to leapfrog Hardy as well. At the very least, they might be able to get some exposure should they find themselves looking for work in the near future.
