"(Alex Carrington)'s been more impressive to me in his pass rush ability," said (Bills scout Shawn) Heinlen. "He didn't have a real knack for it (at Arkansas State), but I think that's the way they played him there. Here, he's kind of started to develop some pass rush versatility for us. It's good to see him pick that up this early in his game for us."

That’s great to hear maybe we won’t have to rely quite as much on our OLBs for the pass rush. GO BILLS!

I wonder if that is going to be the big story of this defense in 2010. From what I could see at practice last night I suspect George Edwards is planning on using his DE’s to rush the passer a lot more often than would normally happen in a 3-4 — most likely to compensate for the obvious weakness at OLB. And if that is indeed what Edwards is doing, and if Carrington is beginning to shine as a pass-rusher, he may end up seeing a lot more playing time than we have been expecting.

Could you explain that more? What would be different than the typical 3-4 that would make the DEs more effective in the pass rush for the Bills?
In a typical 3-4 the DE, even on a pass play, is supposed to tie up the outside offensive lineman to allow the OLB to get a one on one with a TE or HB or make the G come out and get his hands on the OLB which is a lot to ask of those players. Edwards may be planning on having his DEs shed their blocks a little faster in order to generate a puch up the middle to force the QB outside.

Flushing the opposing QB out of the pocket?
What a novel idea.

Buddy's draft
Looking good right now, especially rounds 2 and 3. 4th is an injury (can’t help). 5th is suspect, but OTs take a long while. But, Spiller could be the next Chris Johnson, we’ll see.
1st round – Spiller will shine throughout his career, 2nd round troup is getting great reviews from his teammates about his strength, 3rd round carrington could be a great asset within the next year hopefully he will get a good amount of time this year we will see, 4th round easley was looking good in OTA’s he is physical and can make plays, 5th round wang will be a good depth player i think, 6th rounders look to be good special teams player and might make some plays during the year on D, 7th round Brown looked good in a 2 minute drill and Calloway comes from a good college team that is known for rough o-lineman….it was good draft overall next year OT and QB if Edwards doesnt come around this year and WR at some point we will be set

True
But we have so many needs, wasn’t that hard to improve when you start with nothing!

Please don’t set that type of expectation. I’ll be thrilled if he’s the next Aaron Smith.

Heh, it was a joke.
It’s still going to be 2-3 years before we can see what he can really do. He has a good build, and I think he will be a solid player…. not quite pro-bowl level, but a key piece for this team. And certainly not the best 3-4 end ever to play the game.

Pro Bowl or bust!
Nah I’m just kidding. But I think this kid has the tools to be the clone of Dwan, maybe a little better in the pass rushing department from this quote.

IMO…Carrington has all the physical tools to be the best 3-4 DE in the NFL at some point in his career. Do I expect that? Hell no, but his ceiling is sooooo much higher than D. Edwards (who I also really like).

Time will tell, It has been awhile
It is nice hearing that a rookie just out of college is improving on an aspect of the game this early into his NFL career. Especially, an aspect that has been critical area for our defense of recent years. Still he is young and will need much conditioning and reps as possible. I doubt he cares much about where he played in college like some of us, if he has a chance to play he wants to be prepared to contribute the best he can. This is an all good report for our #3 pick. Let the names begin. Let’s not forget about Moats and Batten, assuming Batten can return before too long.
