One of Schobel's close friends said Monday he would love to be reunited with Kollar and play for the Texans.

I was gunna say,

I would be happy with a 5th.

But yeah, I’d take a 5th too.

Actually, I like your first idea
Byrd gets an award, Schobel gets to retire in Houston. Everybody wins.
This is really really surprising to me
or wait. This is no surprise at all.
5th is ok, interior lineman would be better.

I have to eat my words
I was the crazy guy predicting he’d be lined up at OLB by the Cincy pre-season game. I’m fully prepared to take my beating and eat those words. I just didn’t see Buffalo forcing there hand. Nice to see the new thought process and a Organization that is practicing what it preaches.
With that said, I don’t think anyone would be surprised with the Houston hints. That’s been floating around for some time. They have some great BBQ in the area. I would be happy to get some tasty brisket, a few ribs and a 5th. The key is to get something out of it. Question is, does Houston want him as much as he wants Houston.

one trait I find admirable is when you notice you were wrong and being man enough to step up to the plate, not everyone can do that. I respect the comment for sure, but also, feel the same way you did about schobel as did many i’m sure. I just wish him the best and hope we can get something for him.

I'd ask for slightly more than a 5th
I think Schobel’s worth, particularly for a Texans teams that is very close to the playoffs, is about a 3rd. Schobel’s contract and Favre-ish attitude pushes his value downward.
I’d ask for a 4th rounder, which could escalate to a 3rd dependant on Schobel’s playing time. Buffalo would also be responsible to send something back to the Texans should Schobel retire after just one year.
So, I’d go with this:
Schobel to Houston for a 4th rounder in 2010. The pick escalates to a 3rd rounder pending playing time and production. Buffalo owes Houston a 5th, regardless of the previous escalator, if Schobel retires after the 2010 season.

How about if I approve this trade.....does that help :-)
If all the stars align, pigs learn to fly, humanity achieves world peace, doctors discover a cure for cancer, scientists perfect cold fusion, and hell freezes over, the Bills might win the SB this year.
Though, the team that Buffalo really needs to be talking to is New Orleans
Reasons:
-Gregg Williams was Schobel’s first head coach, and there might be a connection still there.
-New Orleans plays the same 46 based defense that Buffalo did under Williams and Jerry Gray. It would be an easy transition for Schobel.
-New Orleans does have Will Smith at RE, but Alex Brown at LE isn’t a cause for concern for offenses. The Saints could use Smith and Brown as run-down ends, and bring Schobel in on passing downs. Schobel and Smith as passing down bookends would certainly boost the Saints defense, which has been mentioned as the possible weak link to defending a title run.
-Houston has Mario Williams at RE, and a Connor Barwin/Antonio Smith combo at LE. They play more of a traditional 4-3, where Smith plays early and Barwin is the passing down rusher. Barwin showed signed of future success last season, and Schobel would stunt that.

Was just about to mention (again)
New Orleans is a perfect fit for Aaron!

I thought the same thing some months back. I’d have to wonder if the Saints are game.

I don't think anyone will trade with the Bills
Why would they? The Bills just undermined any value he has. Does anyone think he’s going to get $8 million as a free agent? No way. Why would a team send ANY draft pick (let alone a 4th) AND pay $8 mil when they can just wait him to be cut? I think we’d be extremely lucky to get anything at all.
This is my only big problem with the new regime so far. They should have never announced our transition to the 3-4 before the draft. They knew Schobel wanted to stay in Texas, so why not bluff that we’re staying 4-3 and snag a pick for him?
I do, though, appreciate the Bills sticking to the “no nonsense football” mantra that Gailey has been preaching. I wish a trade could have been worked out first. It’s like cutting Dockery and the Skins immediately signing him last year.

well you should be releived then! How could they do a coach search for a D-coordinator without knowing what scheme they were going to run? They HAD to!

This is true. Still, though, they couldn’t tell Schobel to keep his mouth shut and work out a trade with the Texans or Saints?
maybe, maybe not, but the writing would have been on the wall regardless. I don’t think the FO should be held accountable for this situation.

I don't know.
You have a starting player who wants to play for another team and you’re going to end up cutting him. I think that’s something you can blame on the FO for sure.
we’ll just have to disagree.
in certain situations sure, this one i’m just not too sure on. I just don’t think Schobel wanted to rebuild – he wants to win – and that ultimately wasn’t going to happen for the bills this year.

Yes, exactly! So trade him to whomever for whatever they’ll give you. I mean maybe they thought the whole team would pull this crap if they gave into him, but IMO, teams that are rebuilding can’t afford to let commodities walk out the door.
Schobel hurt his own trade value...
not the Bills by announcing the switch to a 3-4

I couldn't agree more.....
if he doesn’t want to play for us, then the hell with him. Don’t give him away, if we can’t get anything, let him rot in Texas.

We have Mario Williams and Antonio Smith
and behind them we have Connor Barwin a 2nd round pick last year. We are not desperate for DEs in any way.
Agreed, but your can’t tell us that having Schobel wouldn’t benefit you either.

Yes but we aren't giving up anything higher then a 5th
and even then Rick Smith values his picks so highly that might not even be low enough for him.
i would say keep him on the reserve did not report list till either a) a team trades for him or b) he retires or shows up
if a trade happens i would like him to go to houston for xavier adibi
or to new orleans for demario pressley you’re probably saying who these are mid-late round value players who can stop the run
every year i get excited for two things madden and the bills season and im always disappointed by madden i love my bills and i will always love them even if they never win a superbowl who cares we have 2 AFL championships the cowgirls have 0 GOOOOOOOOOOOOO BILLS
from chris brown @ buffalobills.com
Bills GM Buddy Nix made it clear regarding Aaron Schobel’s career with the Bills. It’s over.
"He will remain on our Reserve/Did Not Report list until he makes a decision about what he wants to do, whether it’s retire or if he might want to play somewhere else," said Nix.
If Schobel does want to play elsewhere, the Bills will then begin to explore trade options. It’s clear the Bills will not outright release him.

Nix should just give Schobel and his agent permission to seak a trade. It usually goes faster than when the team itself looks for the trade and the return usually ends up about the same.
