Eagles' Writer Loves Jauron and April
The additions of special teams coordinator Bobby April and secondary coach Dick Jauron. Both are outstanding, with April one of the game's best at his position. The Eagles ranked 30th in kickoff returns and 23rd in punting last season, and April should make improvements in both areas. "I had an opportunity to bring Bobby in here," said Reid, "and I like the résumé. The great special-teams coaches are experts on angles and techniques, and that's what Bobby is." April coached in Buffalo under Jauron, who made his name as a top assistant before becoming a head coach. Jauron and Reid were together in Green Bay as assistants. I think you get the idea. These guys know each other. "When Dick was a head coach," Reid said, "he and I would always joke when we were at the owners' meetings. We'd say, 'Wouldn't it be great for one day to be a position coach again -- where you don't have all the worries?' So when he was released by the Bills I called him and said, 'Remember those conversations we had? I'm putting it out there; if you would like to come down we've got a spot for you.'"

I’ve no doubt Jauron is a good assistant. He probably should never have been a head coach.

agree
he would be a good secondary coach, not HC

He’s probably happier as well!

’Wouldn’t it be great for one day to be a position coach again — where you don’t have all the worries?’
Why was he ever our head coach? “Joking” or not… that sentence screams ‘that he wasnt prepared for a head coaching job.’ Thank God hes gone.
Where else would you rather be?
Andy Reid said the same thing, though. He’s pretty good at what he does.

Yeah but Andy Reid I can believe was joking on account he was/is a very, very good coach… Jauron on the other hand…
I know I should just let it go, hes no longer here so I shouldnt care. But just seeing his name makes me think of the past 4 years and what we were missing out on. I know we werent the ’72 Dolphins… but I would imagine if we finished 7-9 under Jauron for 3 straight years… that under some better coaching we would have been 9-7, 10-6 at least one of those years… and been to the playoffs. This drought is killin me haha.
Where else would you rather be?
what’s gonna kill me is when we finally have enough talent to compete and the team gets moved. that’ll tick me right off and i’ll probably move with them

We should have not let April go
but Dick was a bad HC, im sure it would be nice to haver him as a secondary coach, he has loads of experience.
just don’t ask him to come up with any offensive plays or get excited about anything

we didn’t have a choice in April. No way he was going to remain on the team after Fewell got promoted over the Assistant HC.
Who ever decided that had to know that April would not return – or is just an idiot.

i agree we really did not have a choice to keep him
but it’s not like he got promoted in Philly

it seems to me
there are only two reasons that the Bills would have promoted Perry instead of Bobby April:
1.) The conspiracy theory – that promoting Perry instead of Bobby might have been a “fake” way for the Bills to appear like they were abiding by the Rooney Rule. Leslie Frazier has said he felt like he was being used during some of his interviews and I wouldn’t put it past the Bills to promote Perry with the thought at least part of the decision – if he was the interim guy, they just have to give him an interview and “consider” him, right?
2.) The logical answer – they thought Perry Fewell was the better coach and better head coach candidate. Personally, I think Perry Fewell IS a better head coach candidate than Bobby April and I look forward to the day when he does get a chance to be a head coach. He’s a good coordinator and he seemed to communicate well with the players. Isnt it possible, or even probable, that the Bills wanted to give Perry a legit chance to win the head coaching gig?
"I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly"
on your first point – I don’t think that factored into it one little bit. Even if he wasn’t promoted he could still interview for the HC position. There are plenty of black coaches that would have interviewed for the job if asked – I don’t think that factored into it.
on point 2: I think they definately thought Fewell was the better coach – it just boggles my mind that if Fewell was the case then why give April the assistant HC title? If they think that Fewell was the better coach and knew that if DJ weren’t here they’d go with Fewell – then why give April the assistant HC title? They would have to know he’d leave after that – any one would because it would be a slap in the face.
I guess I was more unsure of why they named April assistant HC in the first place if they thought Fewell was the better coach.

good point
I guess I was more unsure of why they named April assistant HC in the first place
My only guess would be they didnt expect to can DJ midseason and thought that giving April that title would appease him into wanting to stay here longer?

You know
i don’t think April is a HC, so even if last ear’s FO was a sham and couldn’t make the right decision to save their lives, I think it turned out really well. That being said, I would much rather April as the Bills ST coach, but I think that’s pretty obvious for any Bills fan.

to be quite honest
as much as I loved April I really like the house cleaning. We kept some of the good positional coaches but I like that all the coordinators are gone, time to move on into a new era
"I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly"
It wasn’t a question of letting him go. It was a question of him being pissed the F off that Perry Fewell got the interim tag ahead of him, and wanting to get the hell out of dodge since that decision was made.

abrreviating a big boy word
is the same as spelling it out. Just saying. Like your stuff though.

Sorry, but an abbreviation is fundamentally not the same as spelling it out.

if that were true
than why would television and radio bleep out the words? The bleep would be the same thing as saying the word right?

bs
If the eagles like him so much maybe they should give us back one of the draft choices he pissed away, or maybe DICK should donate his salary to the bills fans who spent hard earned money on tickets the past 5 seasons…..The eagles are going to need DICKS blank, emotionless, who cares stare when McNabb is lighting up the scoreboard on their secondary this year with receivers no one has ever heard of
