A check they can't cash

Back in the day folks used to say don't write a check that your body can't cash. I believe this to be the motivation behind Woods comment to Maybin to "give back some of that money". Well here are some of the bills whose performance In my opinion equate to bounced checks they have written to us, the fans.

Aaron Maybin: First round draft in 2009 with lots of raw athletic ability, he has yet to perform at the level projected when he was drafted. Many of Maybins' supporters comment that he "is young" and has yet to develop. He should have thought about that before leaving school early to pursue a professional career. Obviously no one at OBD did. If your paid as a pro, play like a pro. James Hardy: Second round daft pick in 2008 whose performance in 2010 training camp has been underwhelming. Did the Bills scouts over estimate his ability, or under estimate his motivation? Accounts from training camp portray Hardy as inconsistent, average and outperformed by receivers drafted lower than him . John McCargo:  First round draft choice in 2006, perennial back-up since day one. For 2010, Bills management brought in players to compete with John for a roster spot as a back up. During this years camp, he has performed better then at any time previously in his career just to remain competitive. Ryan Fitzpatrick:  Originally drafted in 2005 by the Rams he has been a bit of a Gypsy, playing two years with the Rams and Bengals before coming to the Bills. He started in several games for the Bills in 2009 and openly lobbied to be named permanent Starting QB. An intelligent player with questionable arm strength, who has (IMHO) shown a habit of playing poorly when competing (Bengals: v. Palmer / Bills v. Brohm) for playing time. Ralph Wilson: promised us a winning team, gave us Dick Jauron and ulcers instead. Should have given us Bills "terrible towels" to wipe our tears with.

DISHONORABLE MENTION: Ashton Youboty:  Hard hitting corner back who can't stay healthy.  Derek Schouman: Big tight end who is injured often.

OUT IN LEFT FIELD: NY Jets; will finish last in AFC East!

depressing

…for all the wrong reasons.

We know those guys have problems, but do we have to hear it again and again?

I don’t think kiter is really a word, but I get the point. Voted Hardy. He was supposed to be the answer to the second receiver problem. Maybin hasn’t really been around long enough to judge. There’s really no way to know what goes on behind Ralph’s doors. Yes, he has failed to bring us a proven couch, or GM, but …as long as the Bills are still IN Buffalo, (not an easy thing) I will not complain about him. I can’t stand the Toronto “thing”, but if it keeps the Bills playing….

OK

BTW – I voted Hardy as well. This guy heads & shoulders above everyone else on this list, just does not want “it.” I say ‘it’ as in the way that Jerry Rice or even our own Andre Reed wanted ‘it’, and GOT it. Cut him. See ya bye, have a nice life.
Now on Maybin – OK so we have to give him more time? Why is that? Because we can hopefully recoup what was a stupid decision? He came out early – stupid on his part. We (the Bills drafted him 1st round) – stupid on our part. He looks like a 20th century WR and has like one pass rush move. Remember – this was a guy that was supposed to give us IMMEDIATE pass rushing help. But we’re supposed to give him more time. Hmmm… that thought escapes me. I say just another one of Jauron’s grasping at straws. He looks like a straw. Cut him.
On the rest – I don’t know where you are going with the whole Wilson’s couch/Toronto thing. That totally lost me.

Your right, does that mean I have to “refudiate” it?

I’d blame Marv for Dick Jauron more than I’d blame Ralph.

I feel like a lot of posters on here

make that connection.

The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun

Rec'd

I agree with the sentiment behind this post 100%. I know it’s old news. I know that 75% or more of those listed will be gone off this roster come 9-12-10. But if it were up to me, all financial ramifications aside, I’d rather have some guy off the street willing to earn his keep than these bums. Like Nix said – “show me the baby.” Put up or shut up. We aren’t winning squat this year anyway, so give the roster spots to those that want to show it on the field, not to those that want to make it rain in the local strip club.

Leave Maybin alone!

If they cut him your wish will come true!

This is old news. Does anyone have anything new to say? LoL

Derek Schouman: Big tight end who is injured often.

Schouman is anything but big by tight end standards at 6-2, 223.

Enjoying my annual three months of optimism.

Maybin WILL come around!

I firmly believe that. I think that he just has to learn how to play the game at this level. Prior to now his job was this; go a hundred MPH for the QB. Now he is asked to be an OLB, as we all know, there comes a responsibility of coverage with that. With that said I don’t think Maybe has the instincts to play his position as well as we want. I have been impressed with his quickness and speed. I have been disappointed at how quickly he can be taken out of a play. I think to get the most out of his potential he should be used mostly as a specialist, he should be moved all over the place, he should only rush from the weak side, or blitz him like a safety, where he comes with another man.

McCargo!!

Hardy looks like a scrub because he came into the leauge raw. We all knew that but, he needs to stay healthy long enough to get the practice reps that he despratley needs especially with two offensive systems in three years. He also is not costing the team that much (under 500,000 a year).

Maybin gets a close second for me. He also came into the league very raw, and has had a larger scheme change to go through than Hardy. Maybin is a stud, but had the most to learn going from what we drafted him for; a quick first step to what we are asking him to do now, coverage, multiple rush moves, run stop. He by far has the biggest pay check comming in at 3-4 million a year.

McCargo wins hands down. Going into his 5th year in the NFL. He has had a few injuries also, and scheme changes. Did I mention he is entering his 5th NFL season. If you cant prove your worth by then you might have wrote a check your body cant cash. In this case costing us 1.5-2 million a year.

In retrospect, i should have mentioned how he’s injured a lot. Pretty sad that you have to push him just to get an average performance.

It’s not time yet to throw Hardy under the bus, he is coming off a major injury and caught a 30yd pass last night. ACL is a in injury where you can play a year but really can take 2 years to be back to 100% if everything went well with surgery.

Maybin? Can you really throw him under the bus this quick?

i am not a fan, but the investment has been made. He needs at very least this season to evaluate before eating that contract.

McCargo, I have considered him a deadman walking since he failed his Indy physical, this i understand unless he can make enough of an impression where the coaches think they can use him.

Fitz, seems like a great guy, seems a better fit in the CFL or UFL, he made millions and won a few games, but he is the second coming of Cade McNown with his accuracy problems, I will say this guy is lucky and probably wins more often than not at the casino if he goes, he performs much better in the elements, where the wind seems to blow an inaccurate pass on target, no wonder Jauron liked him.

There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

I would also give youboty more time, great open field tackler who contributes on special teams, just needs to stay healthy.

Schouman has been injured too, but he also probably deserves at least one more season to decide if he is broken.
