"The Bills are hoping RB Marshawn Lynch (ankle) can return to the lineup for Thursday's preseason game, but if Lynch is unable to go he believes he'll be OK by the regular-season opener."

I don’t think playing Lynch in the preseason game will prove anything. Might as well sit and make sure there’s 2 RBs ready to go in week 1.

Even if hes healthy… have him sit. No need for him to tweak it vs the Lions. Let him rest and get ready for Beastmode and Lightning week 1.

Where else would you rather be?

yea,

depending on how good he is, i would let him at least play a series. He only got a few playes the first game and went down and has been down since. He needs to see the field a little before week one.

I was thinking… rest Spiller, work Lynch into a “role.”

If they like Bell as much as I do, maybe it will make it easier to trade Lynch

It was Cookie's turn to lead the "easiest exercise" during the Monday practice after a game-- he said-- "we're going to do deep breathing--everybody inhale--dehale "

I’d much rather keep him. Bell has run good in the preseason but hasn’t done it with/against the 1’s. Then again I’m in the minority that would trade Freddy before I would trade Lynch.

29 is getting old for a RB but I think Lynch is a goner as soon as the price is right

I’m with you, trade Jackson first while the price might be high, at least higher (no pun intended) than Lynch’s. Plus Lynch is still young and hopefully learned from his mistakes, would make a nice one two punch for a few years, Beast and Lightning.

Well we tried the no offense huddle, why not give the no huddle offense a go?!!

by mavadjdj on Aug 30, 2010 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Why not all three

Jackson is a proven solid RB and put up some great numbers behind a subpar OL and teams knew we weren’t throwing the ball.

Lynch is much like the mold of Jackson. A workhorse back who has demonstrated he can get 1,000 yds in a season.

Spiller is the home run threat who can (and has) strike from anywhere on the field.

Let’s face it though. RB’s get hurt. If Jackson goes down, we have Lynch / Spiller. Still a world class combo. Lynch goes down, it’s Jackson and Spiller. No Spiller and we have Lynch / Jackson. I LOVE the combo on this team. Injuries to the RB position WILL happen this year and having THREE potential Pro Bowlers is a GREAT problem to have.

I agree with your point about keeping all three

but I dont think Lynch and Jackson are anything alike. Jackson is a slasher and the most complete all-around RB, Lynch is a bruiser and good 3rd down back (he can catch and block well). I look at our RBs and compare them to the Dallas RBs (or the Giants from 2 yrs ago with Jacobs, Ward & Bradshaw)

Dallas: 1-Barber (Bruiser), 2-Jones (Speed), 3-Choice (Complete Back).
Buffalo: 1-Jackson (Complete Back), 2-Lynch (Bruiser), 3-Spiller (Speed).

I say keep em all, trade Lynch after this year when his value is higher if one must go, thats if Bell is truly the RB I believe him to be (Bruiser).

That's what I was thinking.....

Trading Lynch with higher value next year will get a solid LT, hopefully.

I think it's possible to keep 4 running backs

What more does Joique Bell have to do to earn a roster spot, honestly what would it take. The way I see it, the guy has played his way onto the team. We might as well keep 4, heck we kept 9 DBs when Jauron was here. We can trim that to 8 or another position to something else if we have to.

Then next season we see what happened and we field trade offers.

I might get killed for this, but I think Chad Simpson is a better player than Joique Bell. There, I said it.

by Brian Galliford on Aug 31, 2010 7:41 AM EDT up reply actions

I think your safe.

Chad needs to be considered. The loss of Bell would hurt for about a day. Same could be said for Simpson as well. Simpson is not PS material and Bell is and Bell could end up there. There are some very good runners on many other clubs. Teams tend to protect there own after camp and Bell still needs work on other aspects of the running back’s responsibilities as well as ST’s. It’s amazing how we can go from two backs on the roster to an overflow of quality backs on the roster.

I think it’s pretty simple, we will carry 4 backs into the season + 1 FB
Workshorse back= Lynch and his backup is Bell
multithreat back=Spiller and his backup is Jackson

Plus – Bell can play ST

In a year where we are rebuilding and we want to establish first and foremost the run game, a year in which we will be lining up with multiple back formations, I think keeping Bell is a no brainer.

I thought so after watching the game last night too.

Donald Jones has some good moves too….

I'm not sure we have the tools or the talent....

by J2 on Aug 31, 2010 10:34 AM EDT up reply actions

He's certainly a better all-around player

Bell is a between the tackles runner and not much else. Simpson can help a team in a variety of ways.

I agree with you.

Agree

If we can, keep them all. At the end of the season, hopefully, the rest of the league will see that each can start, that’s when things can get interesting as far as draft picks and what not. When was the last time we had extra 2nd or 3rd round picks to play with anyway?
