Inside The Bills | Bell plays well "
"Though the offensive line had its share of problems with penetration by Miami’s front, which stymied the run game and at times compromised pass protection, Demetrius Bell, who is coming off a long offseason rehabilitation fared well in his first regular season action since his knee injury late last season."

Inside The Bills | Jackson’s hand good to go "
"Bills RB Fred Jackson’s hand came through Sunday’s game very well. So well in fact that he thinks he’ll be able to move forward without a protective device."

Evans tries, but fails to hide frustration - Jerry Sullivan - The Buffalo News
"Evans used that phrase more than once. 'For whatever reason,' deep balls are called but not attempted. Some of it, no doubt, is the abysmal pass protection." Sullivan thinks it falls to Trent a whole lot more than the OL, though.

Bills offense confident they'll improve - BuffaloBills.com
"In no way are the members of Buffalo’s offense content with what happened on Sunday. They know there were opportunities missed in what was largely a one possession game until the late stages. That’s why they’re confident and committed to making more consistent offensive play a reality."

"Right now I feel like we maybe tried to do too much this ball game" said Gailey. I may have had too much in there for them and we have to get back to basics."

Replay: Protection breakdown led to sack by Dansby - Sports - The Buffalo News
"The Dolphins rushed five or more defenders only eight times in 37 pass plays. Nolan used mostly four-man rushes with a mix of some zone dogs. That proved to be effective as the Dolphins recorded three sacks and knocked down Bills quarterback Trent Edwards nine times."

"Troopers on patrol issued a total of 75 traffic tickets following the game on September 12th on area highways."

NFL Blog Blitz: Buffalo Bills powered by SportsFanLive.com
The defense and special teams get good grades while the offense gets an F. How the coaching staff only gets a C+ is a little weird.

"The result? An average of 3.1 yards per play. That had to be the most glaring statistic of the game. And if you remove the touchdown drive from the equation, the average drops to 2.0 yards per play."

We have the weakest cheerleaders in the nfl…

i agree so much. i was watching the game sunday going….no, no, no, no, no, 14 beers, no, no, no, no

here's a few quotes from my morning reading....
He went 10 of 21 for 74 yards and rarely threw downfield. That allowed the Ravens to set up a series of blitzes, especially on the familiar third-and-long. Ray Lewis said they game-planned against what they expected would be a plethora of Jets check-down passes.

This was in regarding the Jets game but sounds a lil’ familiar to game planning for the Bills.
Then I read this from today’s posted link

Lee Evans, the veteran wide receiver, wasn’t quite so kind. Evans, asked about the lack of throws down the field Sunday, said the coaches called several deep throws. He said “most” of the plays on the final series were supposed to be down the field.

And I love this beauty…..

Last season, Evans and Terrell Owens both said Edwards needed to take more shots downfield and trust his receivers. It was an issue then. It was an issue until Edwards lost his job to Ryan Fitzpatrick, and it remains an issue today.

I think the guy is tied into the mob

most of the plays on the final series were supposed to be down the field… but the Dolphins know those are coming and can drop 7 guys while getting pressure with 4.

but you still throw the ball! Come on, this is football 101. Hail Mary. How can you actually defend what he did?

by blknites on Sep 14, 2010 8:43 AM EDT up reply actions

To an extent. You obviously need to take more chances down 3 with a couple minutes left and 99 yards to go. With that being said they should have had a couple guys deep and some intermediate stuff. Get the first down, get out of the end zone, and maybe open it up. We didn’t need forty yards a play from the goal line.

His performance corroborates your theory.

"A buddy who watches a lot of football and is not a fan of any team was watching the game with me on Sunday. After watching the last quarter he turns to me and laid it out flat: "Your QB sucks." Live in an outhouse long enough, you stop noticing the smell." - oompaloompa

It’s understandable that Evans isn’t a big Edwards advocate. His production has suffered since Edwards arrived in Buffalo. In the 33 games with Edwards at quarterback, Evans has 105 catches for 1,560 yards and seven touchdowns. In 69 games with other QBs, he has 235 catches for 3,796 yards and 32 TDs. Draw your own conclusions.

with edwards – 3.18 catches per game/47.2 yards per game
with others – 3.41 catches per game/55.01 yards per game

by quantumuprising on Sep 14, 2010 8:00 AM EDT reply actions

My conclusion is that he’s played more games with other QBs. Regardless of QB production is essentially the same.

by Pistol on Sep 14, 2010 9:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Regardless of QB production is essentially the same.

uh, no, that’s why i added the extra stats. the averages show that the increase in numbers is not just due to the extra games with other qbs.

Also,

That’s roughly one TD every five games with Edwards, one TD every two games when someone else is throwing the ball. Four times in his career, Edwards has been knocked out of a game with an injury. In three of them, his replacement threw a TD pass to Evans.

Based on Evans’ continued comments, I’m starting to think TE is a bigger problem than I have thought before. However, he really has played well at times, so I’m wondering if it’s more a psychological issue than coaching, as was stated in another post. Regardless, something has to change at QB soon – either Edwards really takes it to a new level, or someone else has to come in and step up.
