First time to Buffalo on Sunday
Okay folks, I've never been to an NFL game - I'm driving over 8 hours to come see them play on Sunday. Any ideas for tailgating spots or things to check out at the stadium?? Any good restaurants in the area to check out after the game? I've heard the Anchor Bar is a place to check out but what about other places?
FYI - I'm staying in a Holiday Inn Express not far from the stadium.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I’m staying in a Holiday Inn Express
What could we possibly tell you, that you won’t already know after staying there???
JK… Seriously, I’ll have to pass of to others on here since I haven’t been home in years… Big Tree Inn might be a good place to check out though… I’m actually surprised it’s still there, but often seen it mentioned… Anchor Bar for nostalgia, but Duffs, or even a Kettles has better wings… Hopefully someone can steer you to a good place for some beef on weck too…. Rarely mentioned nationally, but another Buffalo “delicacy” you won’t regret trying… Not to mention the “garbage plate” I’m gonna make my first trip home in a long time to try…
There are, many, many things to do in and around Buff, depending on how long your there, contrary to media (and McGayshe) representation… Great beer, excellent food, wonderful people, and all Bills fans!!! What more can you ask for??? (‘ceptin’ lower taxes so we can go home!!!!)
The draft dawns a new year for Buffalo Bills fans, so let optimism reign supreme!!! After all, we are now, UNDEFEATED!!!!
yep

If you haven’t been home in years, they actually sell Anchor Bar wings in Tops now.

anchor bar will be long wait
but my traveller friends liked the wings after waiting 1 hr to get a seat.
that was a non football game saturday night last month.
duffs are better wings according to many locals.
but anchor bar on main street has great photos on wall of every sport and movie star
that ever passed through….over decades….
get to stadium real early and get in the main lot and enjoy the tailgating…
Beef on Weck
is one of my favorite meals (to call it a sandwich is not enough) with a shot & a beer. To me this is BUFFALO long before wings came around. Visit the city of Buffalo website for lots of good info. If you get in Friday take in a HS football game. Have a great time. I am stuck in TN til Thanksgiving but my heart is always in the Queen City.
I absolutely HATE having to watch so much Tennessee Oiler football.

Google it....Big Tree....
Its still there and very open on Sundays.
Park up the road from it on Abott Road. Big parking lots on the left and dude’s houses yard parking on the right. Short walk to the stadium, and easy exit.
BUT, since its your first visit, go to to the main huge parking lot and hang with the homey’s. Tailgaiting there is the bomb.

I recommend
Pharoahs! Or if you can make it to Canada, Sundowners is the place to be.

1st time in B-lo?
You NEED to hit up Duff’s for their wings. Need to. Best in town, from a Rochestarian’s POV, anyway. Anchor Bar has the history, but Duff’s is better. Stay away from Mighty Taco. It’ll hurt you later on…but not as later on as you might hope to be the case.
I’ll be there as well on Sunday. I’d love to meet up with people from the board, but we’re going with someone who has HC parking access season tix, so I will be “restricted” to the inner sanctum of parking-lot hell.

If you’re in town for the long haul, bars are open until 4 am.

Home by 5, up at 6 for work!!! Swearing, all day long, how you’d never do that again!!!!
But that night, out again, home by 5, up at 6…..
That was the life!!!

Duff Wings are amazing but the wait is quite long on Saturday night – but still well worth the wait.
The t!ty bar near the airport is lousy, never seen so many A-cups in my entire life!
I must admit that Ted’s is pretty darn good as well.
On game day, be sure to get there early to soak it all in, the fans are incredible and it’s a really great time! If you park in lot 1 be on the lookout for Pinto Man, it’s crazy!!
Ps: Leftover wings on the grill are amazing!

One of my friends use to work at Rick’s Tally Ho a long time ago,
Eric Moulds and his agent, and Reuben Brown were regulars there when they were in Buffalo.

Funny Story.
My friend who worked there, was usually a bartender, who went to Canisus. One night when they were short on help, they made him work the door, he was from NH, so he was a Patsies fan and we would always argue.
Anyhoo, Moulds and his agent showed up the night he was working the door, and Moulds didn’t want to pay the covert, so his agent piped in, don’t you know who this is? And he was like no, i’m usually a bartender. After a talk with the supervisor, instigated by Mould’s agent, they entered with no cover, and my friend never worked the door again :)
True Story!
Moulds was one of my favorite players back then, still is. :)
Shame the injuries slowed him down.

it definitely was that bad!
Let me tell you that when I went, the only good looking chick was actually a Bills fan that came in hammered and started dancing with the girls and then at one point she started stripping in front of us – highlight of the evening.

Pearl St Brewery!
Nice place, better for Sabres games because of it’s proximity to HSBC, but I like Pearl St Brewery more than Anchor Bar.

Pearl street.
Is also slightly closer to the Ralph than Anchor Bar and man do they have some good beer!

Yeah, that most recent stop was not as memorable for content, though I was 2nd-row in front of McCready. They spoiled us in 2003 when they played near 3 hours. Usually when they play HSBC, it’s a tour highlight.

For restauraunts
If you have a BIG budget, check out the Buffalo Chophouse, if not NM. It’s great food but pricey.

Anchor Bar
Get there around 3 PM Saturday and there will be no wait.
I highly recommend the wings…after you eat them there, you won’t want any other wings.
Our Wang don’t Hang; it’s a Calloway Wood cause we got Levitre.

Looking for a low-key bar and if its still there, check the Essex Street pub!! Very working class and one of the best jukeboxes I’ve ever seen in a bar!!
