Marshawn Lynch brought Fred Jackson to Seattle last week
Having him there was a wonderful feeling," Lynch says. "Coming into the league, that was a guy who took me under his wing, showed me the ropes, showed me how to be a pro on this level. I had a tough road, and he was there every step of the way. It was my first playoff game, and he said it was like his first playoff game, too. And he said that when I scored on that run, it almost felt like he was down on the sideline running alongside me. That was big for me."

it's cool that they stayed good friends.
And as much as I hate to say it, there’s a chance that thats the only playoff game that Freddy will see.

Just a side note
Marshawn is a God out here right now (western WA). I cannot help but laugh every time I hear people say that he’s the best player on their team…

lets see if he can repeat
i love him, but that was really the only thing he did this year aside from the one big game he had in the season with 3 TD’s

Very cool of Marshawn
Great competitor and great teammate it’s a shame that he’s remembered more for his bad off the field stuff than the good stuff he does on and off the field. They really were great compliments to one another and hopefully next year Freddy can fly Marshawn here to watch the Bills first playoff game!

Wow, one run and all of a sudden this guy is Gayle Sayers?
He finished with 131 yards on 19 carries with 1 TD. take away that run and it is 64 yards on 18 carries 0 TDs. Not exactly lighting the world on fire. He wasn’t that good all year, for the Bills or Seahawks. But of course one run and all of a sudden he is a great player who has matured into a fine upstanding citizen? Please.

He isnt talking about his performance last week.
He is talking about how Buffalo fans hated him so much. I think he has a point. He is a professional football player, not exactly what I would say has the most intelligent or upstanding citizens populating its ranks. If Marshawn was a schoolteacher or a politician then I would say his actions have a heavier weight to them. Dude is 24 years old by the way. Expecting a guy in his early 20s from a rough part of Oakland with millions of dollars to not make any mistakes is a bit idealistic. It doesn’t excuse what he did, but it provides an explanation. And he obviously isn’t a bad person, as evidenced by what he did for Freddy.
I just think Bills fans should realize that not all players in this day and age are going to be like the guys from the “glory days.” In order to have a truly talented team with a lot of promise you may have to sacrifice a little character.
Then of course we could change our name to the Buffalo Nice Guys, and have an excuse for coming in last place every year.
And he obviously isn’t a bad person, as evidenced by what he did for Freddy.
HE BROUGHT HIS BUDDY TO THE GAME!!!! How is that proof that he is somehow turned into this saintly nice guy? All that proves is that he and Freddy are pals.
I am wondering when this dude became the winner that you all think he is? When his team won that playoff game? (As in his performance last week.) Because you would have a hard time showing me anything that he did as a Bill or in his short time with the Seahawks that proves he is this super talented player and a winner like you all seem to claim.
I don’t dislike Marshawn but this overinflated pedestal that some of you put him on is pretty ridiculous.

how are we picky? nobody wants to play here
we should be having hooters girls greet players at the airport to entice them to stay in buffalo, the attitude against beast mode was pathetic, the guy couldnt catch a break with the fans.. he made the pro bowl for f.. sake

Lynch made his own bed
He got into trouble with the police on multiple occasions, his neighbors, etc. The fans might have forgiven him if his attitude had been different. But no, Lynch decided to play the race card and try to make himself the victim. It didn’t work with most of the fans.
For my own personal sanity, I am officially banning myself from reading/saying anything about Cam Newton.... starting the day after the Bowl game until the start of the combine.

You are missing the point by a mile here.
Neither I or uPitt said ANYTHING about his football playing ability.
Both of our points were to criticize the Bills fans that indicted Marshawn from the moment he got here until after he left.
You also are whiffing on your quote of me. The premise of the article is about how Marshawn is friends with an ex teammate and one that played the same position. About how Freddy HELPED HIM THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES, and Marshawn tried to pay him back by inviting him to a playoff game. A thank you, for helping him get on the right track. Which he has been on for quite some time now. I am not calling him a saint by any means. Just throwing out a bone to a young guy who made a few mistakes.
Your comments are only furthering the point that the haters don’t give him a break at all. And marginalizing his considerable talent seems like a cop out to the issue at hand.

And marginalizing his considerable talent seems like a cop out to the issue at hand.
When has he displayed this considerable talent? I have never seen it. he has always looked like an average NFL RB to me.
Both of our points were to criticize the Bills fans that indicted Marshawn from the moment he got here until after he left.
I honestly can’t remember anybody hating him right from the start. This is totally erroneous on your part. After he ran over a pedestrian and fled the scene, maybe. But not before. The Bills needed a RB and he was a solid choice at the time. And on this subject, was it Bills fans that hit that pedestrian? Was it a random Bills fan who just didn’t like Marshawn that planted that unregistered gun in his car? No that was all Marshawn, maybe you shouldn’t be an apologist for him.

I’m sorry I thought that to be a winner in the NFL you had to be good at it. I can’t really think of anybody who sucks at the game of football but is thought of league wide as a winner.

How quickly people forget his performance in his rookie year. A vendetta is a vendetta, and you sir (see what i did there) have had one against one Marshawn Lynch for quite some time now.
And theres a huge difference between a ‘good person’ and a good football player, pIease dont willfully misinterpret me in order to prove your point. Thanks.

A vendetta? Please don’t willfully misinterpret me in order to prove your point. (see what I did there?) I have never said I don’t like Lynch. In fact I don’t even care about his transgressions with the law outside of how they effect the football team. My argument, which you would know if you had ever taken the time to read what I wrote, and if this is what you think then you obviously haven’t, is that any NFL team needs two good dependable RBs to compete. And Marshawn’s run-ins with the law make him undependable and that the Bills should deal him now and get something before it is too late and they get nothing.
What I was saying there is that Billsfandan claimed that neither you or he said anything about his football ability, but clearly you did there.
Reading comprehension people.

Just because Eric disagrees with you, as I do by the way, doesn’t mean he has a vendetta against Lynch.

your quoting what uPitt corrected in his next post, that you responded to.
And you contradicted yourself on Marshawn’s ability. You say you’ve never seen what I think is considerable talent (I would challenge if you were even watching if you really think that), yet you suggest that he was a good draft pick at 12 or whatever it was. you dont draft just average NFL RBs in the first half of round 1.
Perhaps I am wrong with when exactly Bills fans started to dislike him. And I don’t blame people grumbling about his transgressions. But I do believe that the Bills community was a bit rough on a young guy who made mistakes. Again I am not saying it is ok, he should have known better. But the fact is that he made mistakes and paid the price, then didn’t get in trouble for 2 years after that. Yet people still hated him. It seems that a lot of players around the league get the benefit of the doubt by there fans. Except here. Once people latch on to who they hate, they hate with passion. Case in point: Marshawn, Maybin, Kelsay

I should have said that I thought he was a good pick for that point. They needed a full time starter at RB and he fit the Bill as one. I just don’t see where he is so great. He is a smaller version of Jerome Bettis who doesn’t hit the hole as hard. He dances around behind the line then tries to plow forward. He doesn’t have break away speed at all. I just don’t see the exceptional talent that you claim.
No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.
At this point of our conversation hairsplitting will start. But I'll bite anyway.
I said Marshawn had “considerable talent.” I never said he reached greatness, but I do believe he has the ability to reach 1,400 and 10 TDs. I’ll agree he dances behind the line a bit too much. But once he gets going he is a bear to bring down, and possesses plenty of balance and strength to keep the run going. What he lacks in speed he makes up for strength and balance. To be honest, I think Spiller (at his highest potential) woud be a perfect compliment to Lynch. Go figure.

Perhaps I am lumping you in, unfairly, with other who have said that.
I do believe he has the ability to reach 1,400 and 10 TDs.
He may very well have that potential, but he has never done it. People around here act like he has. And of course with the right offense line and system I could name 40 RBs in the NFL right now that could do that. I just don’t see the special player in him. Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, those guys look special to me. I know you never said he was on the same level as those guys just using them to prove my point.
No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.
The guys from the "glory" days werent exactly saintly........

Most of the guys from the “glory” days were actually, you know, excellent players…some of the best in the league. It’s very difficult to argue that Marshawn is one of the best in the league at what he does.

Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas are all hall of famers Andre Reed, Cornelius Bennett, Darrell Talley are border line hall of famers. Marshawn was a pro bowler because other dropped out so he could go….one year. Not exactly the same caliber of player.
No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.
The fact of the matter is you can’t take away his 67 yard TD run. He ran it and because of it, his team won the most unlikely game of the entire year. Saying “take away such and such run” is silly to me. Take away Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson’s long runs and their average looks pretty pedestrian.
Lynch found something in him that took him way above any other player on the field at that moment. I’m glad he had the opportunity.

THIS WAS NOT ABOUT LYNCH BEING THE NEXT BARRY SANDERS
It was about the lynch-mob (see what I did there) that formed about how much of a thug and terrible person he was, when he was decidedly not, young people make mistakes. He might not be a straight-up class act, and he might not be as articulate as Peyton Manning, but he was never the sociopathic demon I’ve seen him portrayed as time and time again.
And more generally about the practice in WNY of deciding that only saintly players are deserving of their team’s hallowed jersey. Guess what guys, Spiller does the same garbage behind the Bills’ pieced together mishmash of a OLine that Lynch did, except Lynch would will his way to a short gain instead of a 2 yd loss. I wont call him a bust, but I sure as hell will call him a mistake.

You are right, and I for one, have never said he was. I have wanted to trade him only because I felt like it was in the best interest of the team because he couldn’t be trusted to stay out of trouble, and the Bills should get a return on him before it is too late. But at the same time he isn’t the Superstar player everyone makes him out to be either. He is an average serviceable NFL RB. Not elite. There are literally 15 RBs in the league I would take over him. at least.

The guy averaged 3.5 yards per carry during the regular season for the Seahawks. It’s not exactly a guy I’m upset we lost.

he
averaged nearly 5 yards a carry his last 4 games with the Seahawks NOT including his explosion in the playoffs. Hes gotten better as hes adapted to his team and offense.
i’m sure i’m going to regret this conversation… but what the hell - J2
If Lynch was so great how come the most yards he gained in a single game during that span you cite is 75 yards? How come he hasn’t broken 100 since 2008. NFL.com has him averaging 5.0 YPA in one game during that span you’re citing. 2.9 YPA against the Niners, 5.0 against the Falcons, 3.8 against the Bucs and Rams.
Now that he gained 2 yards on 4 attempts against the Bears are people still going to be saying how idiotic the Bills were for letting him go?

What are you responding to MRW? I never said Marshawn was great. I stated a fact that he almost averaged 5 yards a carry during the final stretch of the season because I believe your 3.5 number is misleading for a guy who switched teams half way through the year and had to adapt.
i’m sure i’m going to regret this conversation… but what the hell - J2
But he didn't average 5 yards per carry
He averaged 3.9 ypc the final 4 games of the regular season. If you take out the one run in the playoffs, he averaged 3.0 ypc in the two games.
In the playoffs, he looked exactly like the guy he did in Buffalo and Seattle all year. One run shouldn’t change that.

I’m not exactly happy they unloaded Lynch and found less production from his replacement. The Bills need every down backs. There is more work to be done now that they only have one defined running back on the roster, where before they had two.
