Panthers to Take Luck
If Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck decides to enter the 2011 draft, the Carolina Panthers will take him, two high-ranking team officials said Tuesday.
The team officials said they wouldn't even consider trading down in the draft if Luck is available.

I'll believe this more than the Lombardi story that said that they'll pass on Luck.

it makes a lot of sense
Jimmy Clausen was the worst starting QB in the league this year

Not his fault..

say what you want but when you have the lowest QB rating of any QB eligible to receive one you can’t blame it all on his team.

Would high-ranking team officials show their hand this early?
I don’t think it’s a wise move, negating possible opportunity with picks. Now, if the team was Buffalo… yeah those extra picks might prove dangerous.

easy
they’re trying to influence Mr. Luck into declaring for the draft. he’s only got about ten days to decide whether to enter, they might as well give themselves the most options possible to pick from. if he doesn’t declare, they won’t have many teams knocking down their door with offers for the pick either.

Last year the Rams made it pretty clear they were taking Sam Bradford…and they did.

And a little part of me dies.....
What I wouldn’t do to go back in time and lose against Detroit, Cleveland, and Cinci….(I’d still take the Miami win, though).
Deep down, I knew this would be the case. But I will still hold on to a little hope that the Buffalo Bills get “Lucky”.

Bills luck would have been them losing 15 games and the Panthers losing 16.

You can’t believe any of this stuff yet. Even if they feel like trading out they 1) need to get luck to declare and 2) need their trade partners to know they will take him if they dont meet their demands.

boom! rec'd
my thoughts when I read this.
1. makes sense Jimmy stunk
2. What a better way to get a killing in a trade then to say off the bat you want him and thats that. Teams will pony up for Luck and they know it.

So you're saying
we have a chance at him?

There's always a chance
I really think if the Bills want Luck they can make the Panthers an offer that they can’t refuse. (Probably will cost 3 maybe 4 draft picks and possibly two first rounders.) The question is with the Bills having so many other holes, is that the best use of our picks? We’ve found plenty of undrafted free agents this year and Nix may try to do it again.
Then the second question is do you improve your team elsewhere and see what Fitz can do with it? (I mean next year there will be another hotshot QB coming out of college again.) After watching Brohm I’m not convinced he will be the long term answer either.
If I were Nix I’d make the move to trade up. Carolina is saying that they will take him to get extra picks. Give them what they want. I’ve seen Luck play in person, and to me he’s a Peyton Manning that can run. Guys like that don’t come along that often.

YES!
The Bills FO and scouting staff has proven they can’t get 1st rd picks right, It’s time to trade a few for a consensous pick.
Look at the last 3 drafts, who would you rather have?
McKelvin, Maybin, and Spiller?
Or Luck.
Luck’s contract would have a similar value to our last 3 first rounders, who haven’t done anything.
This is the Bills FO 1 chance to get it right.

I think you just sold me...
with picks like that we might as well trade away to get one difference maker at the most important position. My understanding is that the Panthers don’t have a second round pick this year… and I’m sure that they want one.
Surprised?
Nope, Luck won’t be around when we pick. There’s still other QB’s available. I doubt Buffalo would want Luck’s contract being a non cap year? We’ll get economy QB! Locker or Gabbert. Could do worse!
