George Edwards Approval Poll

Stay connected for news and updates

I don't have access to videos of our old games.  I am not well versed in specific defensive philosophies and can't comment on what George Edwards is trying to do or not trying to do.

According to NFL.com we are ranked 23rd with 24.5 points allowed per game; 31st with 420.5 yards allowed per game; 30th with 284.8 passing yards allowed per game; and 30th with 135.7 rushing yards allowed per game.

There are excuses to be made for our defense, both for and against George Edwards's handling of the Bills personnel.  Excuses can be both legitimate, and illegitimate.  Its use shouldn't be seen as masking some deficiency.

Pro Edwards:  He's missing our best pass-rusher in Kyle Williams.  He hasn't had a healthy Kyle Williams this year.  Shawne Merriman didn't stay healthy.  We have no consistent pass rusher at OLB.  We have no dominant pass rusher at OLB.  Our rookie 2nd round pick has been injured for some time.  Our CBs as a whole have been hurt by injury.  Without a dominant pass-rusher our blitzes will be ineffective.  We've gotten better against the run.  We have a lot of interceptions.  He's using our players as best as possible given personnel shortcomings.

Against Edwards:  We've improved our personnel by adding Marcell Dareus at DE, Aaron Williams at CB3/4, Shawne Merriman at OLB, Nick Barnett and Kelvin Sheppard at ILB, and our other Defensive prospects like Alex Carrington and Torrell Troup have a full year in the system.  He's unimaginative and and fails to scheme around our short comings.  He doesn't try corner blitzes, he doesn't send in the ILBs enough.  He refuses to blitz.  We have too few sacks.  Our players are making him look better.

There are a myriad of defenses for and against Edwards, and likely many that I didn't list.  What I was curious to see is how the Buffalo Rumblings community feels heading into Week 8 about our DC.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
