Author-Mod's Pick'em Week 8

This week saw the standings shift mildly, but nothing major, other than ALL of us blowing the Jags-Ravens game, then again, no one expected the Ravens to lay an egg against this team, usually their vets prevent this sort of thing from happening......

Standings:

krytime 74

Kurupt 74

Ron 72

WABillsfan 72

silverstreak 71

Joe P. 68

poz 61

For some odd reasons the Saints juggernaut, Texans, Giants, Ravens and Bills are all the favorites this week. It can be an interesting week depending on which teams decide to actually show up.

WABillsfan's Pick Justifications:

Texans- Jaguars got a gift last week when the entire Ravens team, coaches, players, even the ball boy took the night off, they come out mad.

Saints- Do I really need to tell people why? Any time a team is dropping 60+ on someone, and they play a team nearly as bad the next week? I take them in a heartbeat.

Titans- I think Indy plays harder than they did last week, but they still suck, too bad we don't have an upcoming Phins-Colts tilt, the Suck for Luck bowl would be on!

Giants- Miami lost to the Football Messiah last week, and they will lose to the Oreo Messiah this week.

Ravens- They rolled over last week, expecting the Jags to do so, they won't do so again this year.

Panthers- Minny is looking better with Ponder at the wheel, too bad they will be running over the spike strip called the Newton-Smith connection.

Broncos- Football Messiah comes through again as a host of angels slaughter the Lions front 4 to clear the way for Tebow to walk into the end zone.

Buffalo- I thought about Washington, then I remembered its John Beck we're playing. Also, both teams look like a Mash Ward, only thing is, we had last week off, Redskins didn't and that means the less mangled team wins.

49ers- I am tempted to take the Browns in an upset, but I think Harbaugh has this team looking to hurt people and they are rested, the Browns aren't.

Patriots- It hurts me to write this, but since the Patsies are nearly automatic after a bye week or a loss, I got to take them.

Bengals- They had some rest, they have a tough D, and the Seahawks while the stadium is awesome to help the crowd cause problems, the crowd can be quieted pretty quickly if you put some points up quick, I expect AJ Green to be putting some up.

Eagles- I hate both teams, but the Cowboys a tad more, I think the Eagles win just due to being off for a week, nothing more. Though I will be starting the Cowboys D in FF, since I expect Ryan to have Vick on his back at least 5 times this game.

Chiefs- KC is a tough out at home now that they seem to have figured out what to do with a football, I think the Chargers are reeling right now.

Ron's Pick Justifications:

Saints: Darren Sproles against a defense that gave up well over 200 yards to a third stringer.

Vikings: Yeah, I said it.

Texans: Jags weren't impressive on Monday night--Ravens just laid an egg.

Ravens: Baltimore won't lay an egg at home a week after being humiliated in Florida.

Titans: Indy is just terrible this year.

Giants: It's a fair bet that Sporano is fired before this game. If not, look for him to get canned right after.

Lions: Detroit is too talented (!) to lose 3 in a row.

Buffalo: Washington is being reduced to gaggle status via the injury bug.

Bengals: Cincy is quietly putting together a playoff season.

Patriots: The Steelers just aren't the team they were a couple of years ago; the Patriots still are.

49ers: The Harbaughs are what the Ryans wish they were.

Eagles: Romo in another prime time meltdown

Chargers: I can't believe it was tough to pick anyone over the Chiefs.

Kurupt's Pick Justifications:

New Orleans - If they weren't playing in the NFC West, I'd expect the Rams to go winless. They suck. They aren't just losing, they're getting pounded (margin of defeat is almost 20 per game). New Orleans won't drop 62 again, only because Brees and the O should be wearing baseball caps by halftime.

New York Giants - Miami's defense isn't terrible and they've moved the ball somewhat offensively, but like LeBron, they come up small when it matters most. I love Hakeem Nicks; huge game here from him.

Houston - Blaine Gabbert on the road isn't exactly appealing. Arian Foster has another monster game and Gabbert does his best to lose the game, although it should be a close one.

Baltimore - The Ravens will be ticked off and they will feed Ray Rice until he explodes. Cam Cameron erred by taking the ball out of his hands against the Jags. He won't make that mistake this week. Plus, the Cards stink.

Carolina - Will Cam Newton ever cool off? I hope so, since I face him in my money fantasy league. Besides that, I'd like to see DeAngelo Williams get more touches. Why hasn't Carolina used him in the passing game? He was one of the best big play RB's in the league for a number of seasons, now he barely gets any chances outside the tackles. Weird. I think this will be a sneaky exciting game this week.

Indianapolis - Screw it. I had originally picked the Titans, but I think if the Colts have any pride, they'll come out swinging in this one. They stink, yes, but they aren't as bad as they showed last week. A dinged up Hasselbeck could make it tough for Tennessee, though this should be the week Chris Johnson finally break out, right?

Detroit - I want to go Denver, but they aren't nearly as talented as the Lions. Assuming Matt Stafford is fine, Detroit should be able to put some points up against a mediocre Broncos' D. Tebow will probably do something ridiculous and have a monster game, but Suh and friends will harass him all day long (6 sacks taken against Miami?!?!). With a big, old empty space at RB, Tebow just won't be able to do it all this week.

Buffalo - I can't believe John Beck is the Redskins QB. And yet, I'm somewhat nervous he'll have a huge game. I think Fred Davis kills the Bills LB's and safeties all day long, and Shanny will utilize Torain/Helu quite effectively. However, I think Fitz and Freddie will do enough to make sure they pick up their first Toronto win. There are just too many injuries on both teams to really know how this one will play out. Also, please have a quiet game Brian Orakpo, we don't need the blog to be inundated with Maybin/Orakpo comments after this one. By the way Silverstreak, " Bills - our fitzmagic is better than their rookie qb"
I've seen you say it multiple times on Rumblings, but Beck isn't a rookie. He's actually 30 years old. Remember back in 2007 when Miami was winless? He started against the Bills late in the year and was just downright awful, and hilarious!

Seattle - Upset, right? With Cedric Benson out, I think it'll be tougher for Andy Dalton to find his groove. I don't trust Cincy on the road out west, especially with Seattle possessing potentially the biggest home field advantage in the league. This could be the game that proves whether Cincy is legit this year. I think their defense is, but Dalton remains a question mark to me. Is "How Andy Dalton Got His Groove Back" a good or awful fantasy football team name?

Pittsburgh - Back in first place! Tom Brady has quietly come back down to Earth over the past 3 (1327 yards and 11 TD's first 3, "only" 836 yards and 5 TD's the last 3). He's also been getting hit a lot more recently (7 sacks the past 2 weeks). I expect the Steelers to really get after him this week, and wouldn't be surprised if the Pats leaned on the running game with BJGE and Ridley. Roethlisberger is playing awesome football of late and I expect Antonio Brown to have an absolute monster game. The Pats secondary will roll coverage to Mike Wallace, while Brown just carves them up like a bunch of jack-o'-lanterns.

San Francisco - I can't believe Alex Smith and the 49ers are 5-1, but that defense is fantastic. Frank Gore should be effective this week, but I won't be surprised if the Browns pull the upset. Something doesn't feel right about the 49ers being 5-1 (hint, it's Alex Smith).

Dallas - Everybody is expecting a Tony Romo meltdown. I'm hoping for it too (hey, it's funny. Schadenfreude), but my gut says he comes up big for most of the game. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like Miles Austin tends to have his biggest games on the biggest stages and this is one of those types of games. I think the Dallas defense is good enough to contain Vick within the pocket and force him to win with his arm. I don't trust him to do that. If Philly relies heavily on LeSean McCoy, they'll be in much better shape.

Kansas City - I said it last week that KC is playing better football and will cause plenty of problems the rest of the year. Now, they may actually be a big part of the AFC West race. What's wrong with Philip Rivers? His season is looking more and more like one that ends with a season ending injury at some point. It just keeps getting worse. How funny is it that Philly is the only team the Bills have played that is under .500 at this point?

Krytime's Pick Justifications:

Tennessee - My gut says Indy, but my brain says Titans. Still laughing at Chris Johnson.

Houston - Jax won't play as well as they did against the Ravens. Classic short week, let down. Survivor league gimme.

Minnesota - Things I would do rather than watch this game: Work. Rake leaves. Punch myself in the face. Stand in line for a Tom Cousineau autograph

New Orleans - I'd say they're doing okay with Payton calling plays from the booth.Baltimore - Guys who I wouldn't want to be this week? Yup...Kevin Kolb.

NY Giants - Another survivor gimme. And it just makes me so happy to keep picking against the Phins.

Buffalo - Yes Joe - I picked Buffalo this week. Hope you were sitting when/if you read this.

Detroit - Actually think this is an interesting game.

New England - This one is a decent game too, but mostly in name only.

San Francisco - Wtf is happening with Hillis? Love the job Harbaugh is doing here. Could see an upset though...just sayin'

Cincinnati - Chili vs coffee. You can find good coffee nowadays anywhere. Good chili though...that's a good catch. Wish I had AJG on my FF team this week.

Philadelphia - I hate picking this game; don't like either team. Would rather tongue kiss my...ugh, nevermind.

Kansas City - I hate him, but I agree with Colin Cowherd - Norv Turner is meh. KC's okay as of late. Would I take the points? No. Would I tease it? Possibly...

Silverstreak's Pick Justifications:

Ravens - Kolb is not good, and Ravens will want to destroy after a
terrible monday night performance

Vikings - look surprisingly good under the new qb. maybe they can
turn that magic into a win against a bad defense

Texans - the cats still arent good

Giants - altho im hoping the fish win a couple and dont get luck...

Saints - not sure i need to actually voice a reason here

Titans - although i think both teams are pretty terrible

Denver - upset of the week, tebow magicical school bus continues

Bills - our fitzmagic is better than their rookie qb

Seahawks - seems as tho seattle is a diff team at home and that long
trip will hurt cincy....

49ers - becuase its against cleveland

Steelers - although i think this is more of a rooting for pick than an
educated guess with the pats coming off a bye.....how did this game
not get sunday or monday night?

Philly - romo will fail on primetime-again

Chargers - KC is a mess

Joe P.'s Pick Justifications:

Titans- Chris Johnson is finally getting his legs under him, and he might be motivated to earn some of that money they give him vs a Colts defense that is near the bottom of the league against the run. The Colts and Fins are front runners in the Luck sweekstakes. I will be rooting for the Colts to lose out.

Saints- Brees is a top 5 QB in the league and the Rams don't have the defense to stop him or the offense to keep up. The trade for Lloyd is a step in the right direction, but it won't be enough this week with Bradford out.

Giants- I wish I could think of one reason the Fins could win this game??anyone?????? Damn it!!!! Please win one game Miami?..just one game.

Vikings- Sure the Panthers are at home, but the Vikes just played the Packers tough with Ponder making his first NFL start. The Panthers run defense stinks, so don't be surprised if Peterson hangs a double hundo performance on them. The Vikings still have a good pass rush and will make Newton pay for holding onto the ball a little to long.

Ravens- Forget that the Ravens are a legit playoff team coming off an embarrassing loss on MNF?.the Cards are on the road and have to travel all the way to the East coast?..no freaking way they win this one even if Wells plays for the Cards.

Bills- The Bills have had two weeks to figure out how to rush the passer?.. OK?..maybe they need another two weeks, but at least they don't have to worry about stopping a marquee RB or QB. The Bills should win this one easily?.or, maybe I'm being a big fat Bills homer?.I can live with that :-)

Lions- The Lions have lost two in a row at home and have Stafford and Best banged up, but we are talking about Denver here. Elway and Foxxy are on a mission to prove to their fans that Tebow can't play QB. The tape Elway made of the Broncos Thursday practice should have arrived in Schwartz's office early Friday morning.

Steelers- This is a tough one. The Steelers and Pats have posted 3 straight wins. With Ward out and the Pats stellar record vs the Steelers, the smart money is on Brady. On the other hand, the Steelers have a nice stable of WRs, so Ward should not missed that much. As long as the Steelers Oline keeps Ben clean, I don't think the Pats defense can cover the Steelers WRs. The Steelers defense takes a page from the Bills win and makes getting their hands in Brady's face a bigger priority than getting him to the ground.

Texans- Even without Johnson at full strength, the Texans should have more than enough offense fire power for the Jags. How will the Jags respond to the big win they hand last week?

Niners- The Browns have only posted wins against the Colts, Fins, and Seahawks?. yeah, not an inspiring list. The Niners are at home and have been playing well. The Browns haven't been playing well..anywhere, and Hillis has been bitten by the injury bug. Niners win and Harbaugh gives Shurmur a gentle pant on the butt.

Seattle & Dallas- I have to pick a few dogs if I'm going to move up in the standings, so I'm taking the Seahawks at home and Dallas on the road. Lynch is a physical runner and will test the Bengals resolve to stop the run. Asante continues to do his best to distract the Eagles from concentrating on football.

Chargers- KC has shown signs of life, but the Chargers are better at almost every position on the field. The Chargers play pissed after screwing us over and giving a game to the Jets.

Poz's Pick Justifications:

Baltimore - Angry Ray Lewis. Enough said.

Carolina - I've been the lone picker of the Vikings recently but I can't buy them here. Their defense looks horrendous and Cam Newton will shred them. Antoine Winfield and Chris Cook are hurt in the secondary and their defensive line has been playing poorl enough to allow the Panthers running backs to give Newton some support. Steve Smith goes wild.

Houston - Arian Foster is back to 2010 form, which is absurdly good.

Giants - I alone picked the Dolphins last week and they somehow let me down by giving up 15 points in minutes. That was their chance for a win in a while. They missed it.

Saints - So good.

Colts - The Colts bounceback from an embarrassing showing. The Titans arent the Saints and are not as good as they think they are. There are enough Pro Bowl veterans on the Colts to show some pride and in this one after last week.

Buffalo - Fitzpatrick has a new deal and wants to prove it was worth it. Injuries are mounting for the Bills which means its time for some individuals to step up and carry the team. Chan Gailey feeds the Jackson.

Detroit - Tebow is going to be a good QB but this is too much to ask too soon.

Pittsburgh - Big Ben has found his stride, Hines Ward's role is decreasing which is crucial for the expansion of their passing attack with Immanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. Ben shreds the Patriots secondary and the Steelers defense gets the turnover that wins the game.

Cincinnati - That Cinci defense will own the Seahawks, especially if they go back to T-Jax

Cleveland - Harbaugh got his team WAY too high for a win over the Lions and they will have a letdown. The Browns aren't that bad, Montario Hardesty is going to get support hopefully from a re-focused Peyton Hillis, and Alex Smith makes mistakes facing the Browns talented secondary. Hes STILL Alex Smith.

Cowboys - The Eagles get one win and now they are rolling? Nope. The Cowboys are better than the media is making them out to be. Don't forget they had both the Jets and Lions dead to rights before giving up miraculous comebacks. That trend will end eventually, the real Cowboys are the ones that are better than the Lions.

San Diego - Kansas City gets the Chargers at a bad time after that loss.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
