Same Gut and Height
Excluding their face they have the same exact body. Maybe they are twins or just eat every meal together.
Regardless, they better have this team prepared. Eagles are desperate for a win. I cant imagine them being 1-4.
Nix seems to have more defined calves. Just sayin’.

and yet… I have reservations.
It’s hard to argue 3-1. If the Bills play that way for a season, it’s 12-4. But…
Where’s the pass rushing talent?
How come with all the picks invested in defense, our defense still sucks?
When is Fred going to get paid? Is he going to get paid?
Dareus looks like a monster – in the mold of what Jacksonville had when Stroud was a perennial pro bowler/all pro. But how many of Nix’s other picks have really panned out?
If the Bills continue at this exact clip – one dominating win, two nailbiters, and a bad loss – for the season, then Nix is an absolute success… and yet… I wish the questions above had clearer answers.
I voted Unsure
Last month I approved. I think the 3 game winning streak to open the season camouflaged some of the teams problems. Same problems they had last season. Lack of skill / depth on the offensive line, inability to stop the running game consistently, and lack of skill players in the defensive secondary.
Not really sure what Nix has done to correct those problems in the time he’s been here. They’ve been known, glaring, problems for a while now and with Bell injured the OL is even more glaring.
Yet I look at Spiller essentially riding the bench and wonder where we would be if they had actually used that 1st round pick last year on a player that could help the team.
Still want more from the draft picks.
YOU ARE OUT of you kuku fufu mine craker laker Flaber baber FUNKI chunki brain. WE want to winn every year -- abayarde
Agreed. I voted unsure for this exact reason. I want the defense to step up, since we spent 7 of 9 draft picks on defense. Dareus is playing well…but where is everyone else? The 2010 class? Troup? Need more from the draftees.

The 2010 draft has bust written all over it. What happens if another OL goes down, have any reserves even played a down in the regular season? If Freddy gets hurt, the running game turns into zero yards and a cloud of Astroturf, and forget about pass blocking support. There were a lot of RB’s available in FA… Marion Barber, Ricky Williams, Ronnie Brown, Nix passed on them all. Pass rush mediocre at best, Merriman has been competent but certainly not a difference maker, same with Barnett. Those were supposed to be Nix big FA acquisitions.
Bills have been remarkably injury free this year, that’s contributed to their good start. But even with only one player down on defense (McGee), Bills have been consistently shredded.
gotta disagree
I’ll take #22 & 28 @ RB for sure.
I’m happy w/56 on the field & in the locker room @ this point, sky’s the limit if he remains healthy. #50 has been one of the best players on D & plays nasty, which I really like @ LB.
I do agree that #24 has been a Big loss & there certainly are issues w/the secondary but rectifiable.

The personal moves continue to impress as does the changing culture of the organization.
Hats of to Buddy as the Oline has been my major beef w/his mgmt & his quote "well, we like um alot more than you guys do’ appears to be pretty accurate.
The Cincy loss actually reminded me of the late 80’s L’s. Nowhere near as painful as those teams were the 1st real winners in my Bills Nation fandom (didnt count OJ & elec co.) but it was obvious they were on the road to great things- very bitter sweet. This team is also going in the right direction, just hitting a bump in the road( or you gotta learn to put those games away men).

I voted not sure, which is an improvement for me, really.
I don’t trust his ability to build a talented, stout defense. take Dareus out of the equation. He was a no-brainer. I don’t trust his talent evaluations for the guys surrounding Dareus and Williams.
It’s time to get something done for Fred. Now.

Barnett and Merriman are at the very least upgrades from alst year (so far). Edwards was also a decent FA pick-up. You don’t think the defense looks better than last year? It’s not there yet, but it certainly seems improved.
Why would a savyy GM do anything for Fred now? It wouldn’t regard that as a good move.
I have low expectations. But high hopes.

I don’t think the defense looks any better than last year, as a unit. They’re giving up a ton of points, and struggling to get consistent pressure. Certain players look good, but they struggle because there are so many holes on the team.
They aren’t any better against the run. It’s concerning.

bq They aren’t any better against the run.
This is probably where we disagree. I still think its a below average run D. But based on the first four games, I don’t see the run D from last year. Last year was the worst in the league by a healthy margin.
I have low expectations. But high hopes.

WGR550 would agree with you. Sunday’s game was their worst effort of the season and it was still an average outting when compared to last season.
Sill, a year engrained in the system and there isn’t a marked improvement? Not buying in yet.

why do people keep saying Dareus was a no brainier?
Sure he’s most likely going to be a good football player but couldn’t Buddy have taken Gabbert? Ponder? Green? Peterson?

Dareus was as close to a sure-thing the draft held, aside from Peterson (How’s he doing, anyway?)
Buddy not picking him would have implied he was thinking too hard to find talent where others might have passed.

again how is that a no brainier – especially considering the GMs that we’ve had in Buffalo. I could easily envision a scenario in which one of those guys mentioned was selected and justified.
I think what gets lost too is that Buddy would have taken Newton were he available – how’s Newton doing?
I haven’t gotten to see a ton of PP honestly

newton was – in a Fitz interview he even said that back before the draft that there was only 1 QB that the Bills would have selected but wanted him to know it was his team.
too early to judge – heck even last years guys are too early to judge. People are going to rip on Troup (even though he’s been injured) because he doesn’t make impact plays – yet that’s not what his position dictates. Carrington is really coming into his own and Moats/Batten look solid too. You get, what?, 3 starters at most out of a draft class and usually takes the guys 2/3 years to be productive – why does that get lost in conversation so often?

Moats confuses the waters. (Yes, I like that pun). Good find by Nix, but poor handling by the coaches. Let the kid play where he showed promise!
And Troup: my only issue (and i’m not on the hatewagon) with him is his injuries. It’s tough to see him making an impact when the hill to get there is long and steep.

Based on yards allowed our defense still has a long way to go.
I think our offense is good because of the coaches not the talent Nix has brought in. Most of the best players on the offense were here when Nix arrived.
To this point nix has had 2 off-seasons and still has major holes all over.
It’s important to keep in mind that the coaches have done a great job using what is on the roster, mostly on offense.
Don’t give nix credit for good coaching.

I’m going to disagree about Gailey as a HC. He’s an offensive genius, but he doesn’t coach well on the defensive side of the ball. He’s another in a long line of Bills head coaches who are superb coordinators (Phillips, Williams, Mularkey, Jauron).
Does he even coach the defense?

But Gailey at least needs to provide direction. It’s obvious on offense… spread em out, quick reads courtesy of Fitz, go for mismatches. Exploit the talent on hand.
And the Bills defensive philosopy is…? 3-4, 4-3? With or without Brian Scott? Leave McKelvin on an island?
the Bills will continue to draft for a 3-4 but they are transition from a 4-3 so you’ll see both.
Honestly I think people see 4 down linemen and think we’re in a 4-3 when most of the time we’re in a nickel because that’s how the league is going

Most of the holes that got filled were filled by the coaches making better use of players that were already here, not nix bringing people in.

Nelson, Jones, Chandler, Spiller, Dareus, Edwards, Barnett, Merriman, Davis, Florence, Mcintyre, Carrington, Moats, Batten all disagree with you. Plus, unless you weren’t paying attention, Nix said he wasn’t going to build this team in FA and he hasn’t. you shouldn’t be surprised that he’s not blowing up FA.
seriously – go look at our roster from before Nix started and tell me how many players you would keep around. I think that’ll put some perspective on ya

perspective
Here’s my perspective. Our defense is giving up way to many yards so clearly the guys you named are not an upgrade or even playing well. Our offense is playing well due to Fitz, Jackson, Johnson, levitre, wood, bell and several other guys that our coaches are using well that were already here and Nix had nothing to do with.
I love were the team is right now but I think Nix gets to much credit.
by BillsofVA on Oct 4, 2011 12:36 PM EDT via iPhone app up reply actions
Nix kept Fitz on the roster – remember when most people thought he’d get the axe and Brohm would be the 2nd stringer behind Edwards? Johnson never got any love from the coaches until Gailey and Nix started him – he had a total of 12 catches before Nix arrived and he easily could have been cut. Levitre and Wood are mainstays I guess but Bell could easily have been replaced and by most peoples accounts should have yet that’s starting to bear fruit.
To say that Nix didn’t have anything to do with those guys because they were already on the roster is incorrect. I think anyone coudl easily see Fitz, Jackson (with spiller being drafted and Lynch still on the roster) and Johnson off of this team at this point. Plus he’s brought in a solid RT, TE and our deepest WR corps in years. How does he not get credit for those moves?
On defense we played 2 of the best rushing teams from last year and a video game like offense in NE. There are still fundamental isseus with our defense mainly at OLB but Nix is buildilng from the inside out, not the outside in and when you’re going from a tampon 2 to a 3-4 and focusing on the middle first (which is how it should be) then you are going to get beat on the edges until you can get adequate players at those positions.
Building an NFL team is far more difficult than I think you realize. There’s a reason why regimes fail in this league year in and year out because there isn’t enough talent out there. But from my chair Buddy is doing a hell of a job from what he was given and what his philosphy is. To think we’d be 3-1 after 1 year of a rebuild is nothing short of a good job especially considering the teams we’ve played this year.
He’s surrounded his team with good coaches, good strength training, good talent evaluators and succession planning all while sticking to his fundamental core of building through the draft either drafted or undrafted and also the waiver wire.
The only things that I think he needs to focus on more is pressure on QB and QB – other than that I see very little to complain about at this point in his tenure.

Here is a question, over the last two years and for the sake of this pole the beginning of this season, what are everyone’s thoughts regarding placing players on IR? Do you feel the player’s season’s are ended prematurely?

I think Gailey is saving Nix’s behind here right now. Gailey is almost like McGyver to me you give him a group of FA’s and late round draft picks and he’ll find a way to win football games or at least get production from them (except against the Bengals…still don’t know what the hell happened that day).
I still don’t like the Lee Evans trade. He didn’t HAVE to be traded and feel a 4th round pick was poor compensation. Yes I know Moss only went for a 4th and Holmes also just a 4th but those guys also came with off the field issues and like I said he didn’t HAVE to be traded. Other than Stevie our WR corp still looks shaky with no real deep threat or guy getting open consistently.
Also I’m still very shocked that the 2010 Bills draft has struggled so much so far. Not a single player from that draft has cracked the starting lineup to become a full time starter. They are a bunch of rotational players and guys who give the starters breathers when need be but for a team who was picking in the top 10 of the draft we should be getting more from our players. I’m not calling them a bust yet but they really need to step up and show they are ready to contribute and make a difference at the NFL level.
Nix has done a good job dumpster diving and finding some decent players off other team’s practice squads, but that only helps a little bit we need to start getting more out of our draft picks and free agency additions.

It will remain that way until we hear what happens with Fitz, Stevie and Freddie’s contracts.
Overall I’ve liked the glimpses I’ve seen from Troup, Carrington, Batten, Moats & Easley. Those glimpses have to become more consistent over time though.
I also need to see how this offense looks at the end of the year with no Evans on it. I’m afraid teams are going to start squatting on us, especially in the middle of the field, since we don’t hit on many deep plays right now.
Only time can answer all my questions so this rating will probably stay the same for me for a few months at least.
