Bills vs. Dolphins Practice Report: More O-Line Shuffling

The Buffalo Bills hit the practice field on Wednesday to begin preparations for the Miami Dolphins - and they did so not just without center Eric Wood, but without right tackle Erik Pears, as well.

That caused some shuffling up front, and in a slightly surprising manner. Kraig Urbik lined up at right tackle today, with Colin Brown taking reps as the first-team right guard. Chris Hairston and Demetrius Bell - limited in his first practice since Week 4 - split reps at left tackle (Hairston got the bulk of the work), with Chad Rinehart and Andy Levitre at left guard and center, respectively.

Pears was listed as a non-participant with a groin injury. He was joined by other surprise non-participants, including receiver David Nelson (ankle) and end Spencer Johnson (calf). Nelson was just resting, and it's possible that both Pears and Johnson were, as well. Stevie Johnson (shoulder), George Wilson (shoulder) and Rian Lindell (shoulder) all sat, as well.

Chris Kelsay practiced on a limited basis, as well, and expects to play in Week 11.

Well I also know stevie said he is not 100% confident that he will play sunday.

I agree. This is a scary report…not only for the OL, but the WRs as well…

Time to bring in the BEEF!!!!!!!

If Colin Brown is taking reps at right guard, I say it’s time to give Jasper a shot at RG too, let the best man win!

Nelson

sure it isn’t a groin insury for him, after that hug?

by dgrid on Nov 16, 2011 6:43 PM EST reply actions

Its his ankle; the cameras caught the trainers wrapping up during the game, so just resting it.

it was sad that after being down 21 points, he still decided it was okay to go hug his girlfriend. it was pretty pathetic.

it was sad. that shows you where his mind was. i didn’t like that he was worried too much about it before the game. his focus, his mind was not where it should be. it was a distraction for him and the team. and it showed.

I was just going to say this. How can you say his performance wasn’t where it should be after he scored the TD? I don’t think he was distracted in the least.

He was the only one performing and toned it down to just a hug because of us getting beat down. We will never see what he was really going to do. He also said his girlfriend loved what he did and that she would of shown it if getting excited like she was on the inside could of cost her a job

still, the biggest point here is that he was way too concerned with how he would celebrate in the event that he scored. his focus should have been on how to help his team win, period.

Funny, I thought scoring touchdowns did help your team win...

People assume that because they were inundated with stories about it that he was the one talking about it. He only talked about it when he was asked, which was a limited amount of times. It’s not his fault that others decided to write hundreds of articles about it and make it something that it didn’t have to be. In the end he played well and put points on the board. I bet he only wishes that he had about 6 more to give to her. It’s not his fault the team was down, or the rest of the team didn’t perform. He did his part, and wanted to share a once in a lifetime moment that will NEVER happen again with someone special to him. It wasn’t meant for you to understand, nor was it meant to entertain you. Had CBS not decided to show it to you it wouldn’t have been a big deal at all.

Doesn't bode well for Sam Young

Even Chris Hairston got a shot when Bell went down, before LeVetrie moved over. RT we are skippin right to Urbik and plugging in Brown. Doesn’t say much for Young but adds a little something to Brown.

that was my first thought, too.. they must not be big fans of what sam young’s brought to the table so far. or maybe they really like how colin browns coming along? or maybe they are completely batty? i have no idea

by boomsauce on Nov 16, 2011 7:52 PM EST up reply actions

Trust me.

If it comes down to Sam Young having to start, man Firzy better get rid of the ball even quicker than he has been. Young leaves a lot to be desired with his pass-protection, he’s a solid run grater at RT, but I surely hope he stays in the current reserve role and is not called upon in a game like the next Jets tilt.

maybe the coaches dont know what he brings. Dont give up on him, he is more of a weak side tackle.

Still looks good to me

I guess the concern you have is for Urbik possibly being at RT, but doesn’t bother me. He started at RT for Wisconsin – as a Freshman, which is very rare. They moved him inside not because he was bad – but because he was good – and they need help there.

Also started 3 other games at RT for WI. Urbik has given up 0 sacks, 0 QB hits – and only 2 pressures all year. I have confidence in this guy and unless he makes a mental error, I don’t think we’ll miss a beat.

Weird...

I’ve actually been calling Andy Levitre our ‘Kristin Lee Kelly’… not entirely apt, but… hmm.

Try and follow me here — I was kind of an enthusiastic supporter of the Broadway version of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show Live” — that is, the play of the movie of the play, not the original play itself. It had Dick Cavett! And nearly every single time I or one of my friends went, Kristin Lee Kelly was playing a different role, whether Janet, Columbia, Magenta… just like Andy’s filling three entirely different roles this season. Where it can break down is Ms. Kelly was not, until the end of the show’s run, a ‘starter’. Or rather she was ‘chorus’ on days when Daphne Rubin-Vega, Joan Jett and Alice Ripley were present. Still, in the final, post-9/11, we-can-afford-a-last-run-after-all run, I’m pretty sure she was in the main cast as Janet…

I have no idea where I was going with this. I’m posting just to remind myself not to post at 3:55am.
