Nick Barnett over Paul Posluszny, Nix, you get an A++
Nick Barnett is doing great! I know I was a little upset about the Bills decision to not persue Paul Posluszny during Free Agency. When they replaced him with Nick Barnett I was a little sketchy about the idea of putting someone who I barely know in place of a Fan Favorite (Poz). I'm also sure I wasn't alone with this assessment, am I right? Anyway, after the JUMP, you will see #50 and #51's stats at the halfway point this season.
Paul Posluszny- (66)T, (41)Solo, (25)Ast, (1)Sacks, (5)PD, (0)FF, (0)Ints, (0)TD's
Nick Barnett- (58)T, (33)Solo, (25)Ast, (0.5)Sacks, (3)PD, (1)FF, (2)Ints, (1)TD's
Not only is Barnett a leader of this Defense, he is a game changer, as we all seen in the Philadelphia game. Posluszny has been a consistant player for the Jaguars, like he was in Buffalo. The thing is though, he's not a game changer, he is not worth the 6 yr(s) / $42,000,000. I think we got a much better deal in Nick at 3 yr/$12,000,000. Bills Fans, tell me, what do you think?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Not A++
Only an A, because I had to replace my Poz jersey. It’s all good though. Happy with new Dareus. Oh, and happy with Barnett.

Poz is 4 years younger than Barnett so that’s got to be taken into consideration. I give Nix an A because he tried to resign Poz, was unsuccessful, and then pounced on the best available alternative. That’s not saying that Poz is the better player, just that it was our second option.
Agreed – a lot of people wanted Poz to stay, and I think he would have been effective this season. That said, Nix had a price in mind, stuck to his guns on it, and then made a great move after Poz was gone. Nice job.

I gave it an A also. Barnett has appeared to play better than Poz, especially considering the value of each contract. Even though roaming the middle of the field, covering RBs and TE’s is probably his strength (and covering RBs & TE’s certainly wasn’t Poz’s), I would like to see Barnett blitz a little more on passing downs, and get pressure on the QB from up the middle to force quicker throws.
Barnett is a clear upgrade in the short term, but Poz would arguably have been more useful in the long term. That being said, Poz was not worth the money Jacksonville paid for him, and I’m glad Nix recognized that.
The draft has changed
I think you have to take that into consideration now as well. That we can get a quality linebacker for the future now in the draft and not have to pay a lot of money up front if it is a 1st or 2nd round choice.
I mean look at Kelvin Sheppard that is a 3rd round choice that is coming up and now in a starter so I think he has to be factored in as well.
Not just Barrnett who is playing great and giving our defense an overhaul in attitude.
