How about another mistake by Nix

Everybody and their mother knows our offensive line has been horrible for several years...

Right when a little depth wont hurt, Nix, maybe because of Wilson's accountant, cuts Hangartner for money. Trusting whom really? Eric Wood? A guy who has a history of being injured every year?

Now on top of a horrible offense, we have levitre snapping the ball. Awesome.

It is actually quite amusing how all the long term issues have resufaced. Or rather, how everyone was so quick to forget they ever existed. Cheap owner, lack of depth, questionable talent evaluators, questionable play caller, horrible qb, horrible D-coord, zero speed in receiver group, continuation of 1st round bust, horrible O-line, extremely overrated secondary, zero pass rush, an over-confident GM who wont make any moves in offseason, horrible tackling, bad technical coaching, maybe even injuries are on the organization, fans only eager to believe in anything - shawn merriman, on and on....

no better time to say this, barnett is playing well but dont think this is a good move.... barnett is very undersized with a history of injury... an accident waiting to happen... and i cant believe sheppard is really believed to be a starting ilb... even before the draft his lack of athletic ability was known... i dont believe how easy it was for the FO to sell barnett and sheppard as starting ILBs... and over there miami adds dansby in 2010 and burnett in 2011...whatever issues miami have, its definitely not talent unlike with the bills...

When I said this team is at best 9-7, when they were 3-0, there were some who said I should stop killing the buzz. Now it doesnt even look like they will win one more game.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Actually ...

… the O Line has surprised me this year. It hasn’t been horrible. I thought it was going to be much worse before the season started, and I thought cutting Hangartner was crazy (said so at the time). But they’ve played pretty good. In fact, they are the only sign of hope this year for me (I love Jackson’s play, but he’s not part of the future of this team). The OL aren’t a dominant unit, but when healthy they’re decent, and they’re young.

How's that Chix experiment working out for you?

This team is pathetic and obviously the worst team in the NFL. I don’t believe for one minute that they could even beat the Colts as this point. Lets face the facts, There is minimal talent on this team. Stacking un-drafted free agent on top of un-drafted gets you exactly what you have seen for the last 3 weeks. Fitzpatrick is a second string Qb making first string money. Once again Brandon et al. have stepped up and given out a huge contract to a mediocre player at mid season. At least they didn’t give Chan Gailey a huge extension like they did Jauron when he won a couple of games.
Defenses have caught up to what little offense the Bills had. They do not have any where near the talent level it takes to compete in the NFL and when you have a couple of injuries the team can do nothing but implode. Say what you want, drafting at One Bills drive continues to suck and they are unwilling to pay the price for any talented free agent. If this team is going to build through the draft, they need to start hitting on a few picks. CJ Spiller has been a waste, And the rest of the 2010 draft picks are mediocre at best. 2011 outside of Dareus (and that is questionable at times) looks once again like a bust on all accounts. Until the pathetic front office of this organization is removed, this team will continue to dwell in the basement of the NFL.

Yes, everything is Nix's fault

Yeah, the team does suck, but it takes time to build a winner. Writing off a draft class without even a full season of work is BEYOND RIDICULOUS!!!!

Have you forgotten how terrible this team was in the Jauron era? I would take any Chan Gaily team over any Jauron team. Everyone was saying how brilliant the front office was when we were winning, now everyone is quick to take shots at them.

This is a 5 year rebuild, and we aren’t even done with 2 seasons yet. I’m frustrated too, but I have faith things will be better in the next few years.

Is this your homework, Larry?

by Schooled You on Nov 20, 2011 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

NFL rebuilds don't take 5 years

In 3.5 years quite a few of your good players will be gone, as well as the ones you want gone. Most NFL teams turn it around in no more than 3 years. Heck, in 3.5 years Stevie Johnson, Levitre, Wood, Williams, and Byrd. might be playing for another team, while Barnett, Wilson, and Jackson will likely be nearing retirement.

Then it will be time to rebuild again. This 5 year plan crap did not work for the USSR and sure does not work in the NFL. The key is hitting on elite players in the draft. Until the Bills do that, they will forever be 3.5 years from being solid.

whether you like it or not it’s true and whatgoesaround is wrong.

The reason is we really didn’t have any good players when Nix and Gailey took over – they are building through the draft which means that all these young guys will peak at the same time.

the Bills will sign players they want to keep and discard the rest. The reason this was a 5 year rebuild and not a 3 is because of the Jauronian regime and the lack of talent this team had.

The reason some teams can turn it around in 3 years is because of the talent they had to begin with – go look at the roster when Nix took over before even hiring Gailey and let me know out of there if it matters if they’ll be here in 5 years – heck even 3 years.

by J2 on Nov 21, 2011 11:19 AM EST up reply actions

Sorry but I disagree

The Jauron years were bad but the team was still finishing 7-9. That is a competitive team that just lacks a few impact players from becoming a real threat and dominant. Gailey and Nix have traded players, drafted others, signed others, and released others. This is their team no doubt about that. They are not getting production from their team. Does anyone from the 2010 draft look like a real impact player or keeper? So far they all look like a bunch of underachievers and misses. I just don’t buy the 5 year rebuild plan as whatgoesaround has stated you can make changes and improve in just 3 years the 5 year rebuild hardly exists anymore if at all.

the 5 year rebuild hardly exists anymore if at all.

but that doesn’t matter – that is the plan. I happen to know someone who works in the FO and that is how they are rebuilding.

You can disagree with me and that’s fine – but fact of the matter is a scout on the team told me that.

by J2 on Nov 22, 2011 9:13 AM EST up reply actions

Wait...What?

You mean, all it takes for the franchise to turn around is to remove this Front Office? I can’t believe they’ve been there for the last 15 years with the record they’ve had! Well, now that we’ve discovered the solution, a few firings should get us to 10-6 next year!

Bills yes, Nix no in 2012!

by T McGee on Nov 20, 2011 6:43 PM EST up reply actions

Wah Wah Wah

The end of the world is at hand. Really? These guys are so bad they won five games with a healthy team? Accidently? Now they are playing with half an NFL team, all the sudden performing at a pre-season level and the entire front office and coaching staff is pathetic?

You need to get a grip. I was at the game. Yes. they stunk it up. But at least I saw a bunch of guys working hard to overcome obstacle after obstacle. They didn’t quit. You could the team communicating. No one knowing who was going down next. Watching the new guys get cycled in. And all of them running it out.

It’s obvious they have no depth. Now the have less. Does the story get better? Only when the new guys learn their jobs and we have enough guys on the field who know how to play together. If that’s next year, it’s next year.

Go big or go home.

enough with the "effort" crap already

i am sick of this effort thing… if they are putting effort and still they are stinking, that only means they have no talent…. if effort is what you want, where is the effort from Nix to draft gifted talent… where is the effort from the coaches to get the most out of the talent like spiller, etc… where is the effort from wilson to not just look at money but strengthening the team…

by statcruncher on Nov 20, 2011 6:11 PM EST up reply actions

you should probably quit being a bills fan

if you are saying the whole team is awful, and we have no hope. It doesnt make anything better and you are totally over exaggerating.

Although this team really looked awful the past 3 weeks and i feel the same way at times. But we are still in year 2 of a 5 year rebuild, fitz is the stop gap. We need to build a team around him, maybe he get us into the playoffs. While developing a talented QB to take over in a couple years.

The OL has played well just too many injuries. Our WRs besides Stevie are not good. We need more talent there, in order for fitz to be any good.

The defense needs a better coordinator. Also more talent at LB and CB. But Nix has done a good job thus far building the the team from the inside out. Our Lines our finally good and now this year we need to continue to increase our talent level.

Its not going to happen overnight.

cuts Hangartner for money.

flaw in the argument. they cut hangartner bc he was not what they were looking for in an interior backup OL.

barnett is playing well but dont think this is a good move

ummm, what? blast nix for refusing to make moves during the offseason… then proceed to blast him for one move that is absolutely and completely working out so far?

nix has said from the start that he plans to build through the draft. the good side of that is that if u can draft good players, it sets you up for long term success. the bad side of it is that it takes a while before really knowing how good of a job ur doing. in 18 draft picks i am ready to say buddy has found 6 legitimate NFL players, with another several that ill reserve judgement on. if ur batting average with draft picks is higher than 33%, i see that as at least an acceptable job. buddy brings in the players, its up to the coaches to put their talents to good use.
the point im making is that, in my opinion, this nosedive in the quality of play is almost entirely on the coaching staff and ryan fitzpatrick.

by boomsauce on Nov 20, 2011 6:55 PM EST reply actions

i agree with this

But also there was no way we were going to the playoffs, with the injuries we are sustaining. At this early point we just dont have the depth to sustain a high level of play. Also on offense we dont have the WR talent to help fitz. Merriman and Williams were huge losses for the defense.

Stop killing the buzz

Wood hasnt been in injured every year.

I have low expectations. But high hopes.

We need to make some changes come the start of the 2012 season

First we need to sell CJ Speedless to another team for possibly a 3rd or 4th rd pick. Then fire that fat slob of a so called Defensive Coordinator and give the position to Wennstadt. Get rid of Chan Gaily bring in someone else please!!!!

We either start spending money in the FO for big name players or start working with others to get more draft picks. Look at New England and I’m still pissed from the 2009 when we picked Spiller that wish Gailey pumping Nix up with the "C.J’s like O.J. fanstasy.

Here’s what I would do during the draft:

1rd-Trade this pick for a teams 2nd and 3rd rd pick or get Upshaw from Alabama or a QB if their stats impress me at the combine.

2rd-Vinny Curry OLB from Marshall or another Marshawn Lynch style RB add some beast mode to help Freddy out
2rd via trade-Case Keenum QB Houston
3rd-a hard hitting CB or a tall but speedy WR
3rd via trade-OT or a DE/OLB with no soul
4rd-TE that can catch and block or a OT
4rd-from Ravens-CB or Safety
5rd-a good solid C so we can stop shifting our line every time someone gets hurt, either Gaily or Nix needs to start using pratice squad guys with talent when our good ones og on IR.

Statcruncher is full of these overexaggerated posts! When the team is good they suck and when they are suck… “they shouldn’t even be and NFL team, we should all give up on them, and my life is over!” All of his followers join him in his misery as a Bills fan. If being a Bills fan leads me to post ‘The World is Over" blogs every week, then I’m giving up on the Bills. Intervention may be in order. I rarely post on here because of the fans that have no hope. Hope is what being a fan of the NFL is all about. Not one team is guaranteed to go to the Superbowl, let alone the playoffs every year. That’s been proven year in and ear out. You can hope all you want to be the Steelers and the Patriots, but those teams cycle through every decade. We had our years and all hope to get back to it(well, some of us), and we will. Just like the Cowboys will once get back there and the Dolphins will once get back there…and the Broncos will once get back there…49ers?…Well anyways my main point SHOULD be, we saw improvement that we haven’t seen since Drew Bledsoe years. At least we are there!! A real football fan, a football observer… and not guys just looking at numbers..or crunching stats?..should be able to see that these improvements are the makings of something special. Chan Gailey is a darn good FB coach! Buddy Nix is a proven talent evaluator..long term talent evaluator(think about that). This team needs something, but it’s far from the worst in the NFL. Let’s give this FO more than 1.5 years before we determine we start over.. just to start over.. just to start over again!! The last decade proved that that is not the way to run your team!!!

Would you call Jerry Jones a cheap owner? Probably not. He cut Leonard Davis instead of making him a backup at starter pay.

Eric Wood’s injuries aren’t the typical “injury-prone guy” type of injuries. He had his leg DESTROYED on a hit last year and almost the same thing happened this year. It’s not like he was making a routine block and his leg gave out.

i’m also assuming most people having watched Hang play – did you see him in Detroit? He was a train wreck – it was awful.

Plus – Urbik should have been starting – levitre at Center was a disaster waiting to happen

i think you mean his leg was destroyed the year before last. but regardless i agree with you 100%
