Well, here we are. Three weeks ago, the Buffalo Bills were 5-2 and sitting atop the AFC East, and today, they're 5-5, reeling after three blowout losses, and in desperate need of a win to keep their fading playoff hopes alive. (Is there a stronger word than "fading"? A dying star comes to mind - you can't see it's dead yet, but it's been dead for a while.)
This is your open thread for today's game against the New York Jets. Three weeks ago, the Jets beat the Bills 27-11 at Ralph Wilson Stadium; since then, they're 0-2 and have lost by a combined score of 54-29. Between two sliding teams, something's got to give today. GO BILLS!

Troup is scratched because his back is acting up, I believe.
If this is true, prob. wont be 100% until offseason. Back injuries just dont go away without rest and that’s prob. something he cant get during the season.

Really anxious to see what Spiller does with his opportunity
He’s done well this year when he’s gotten his chances, which leads me to think that with the bulk of the carries he could actually find his groove and impress. I for one am rooting for him big time!

I'll be watching Urbik at center.
A ton of credit for the offensive woes last week goes to Gailey putting Levitre at center. Urbik looked decent in the 4th, but it was hard to tell if Miami just let up with the game well in hand or if he was actually making a difference.

Listing Spencer Johnson as the starting JLB is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. A 305Lbs rush Linebacker… No wonder we don’t get sacks! Give Arthur a chance!! He showed full of promise last year, why does this coaching staff not give the guy a chance? Ask Brett how he feels about Arthur Moats!

JLB is the speed side not the big lardo side. Obviously the 205lbs guy won’t get knocked around so much but he also won’t create as much pressure either.
How many other NFL teams have a 305Lbs rush OLB ? Answer: none.
Why do you think that is? Outside speed rushers are normally smaller & faster, so in my mind your scheme needs to slide some extra help to that side on running plays. You can’t have it all!

He’s not losing yards, run game is working, eventually you get the big gainer. Thats what Fred does. A bunch of 1-4 yard runs and then you get them in the right d, block well and boom. CJ int he second level is ahomerun.

What’s more important is that it protects your QB. If needed you can run a spread formation from the shotgun on the 2 minute offense.
You can run a spread from under center.
Single back with 3WR/TE or 4WR is the best way to disguise what you’re doing from the spread.

Revis is the best corner in the league. Period. Fitz has had to make PERFECT throws just to get the ball to Johnson, and he’s done so.
He does get away with alot of pass interference but yes he is one of the best corners playing today. But he is getting beat by stevie.

He can not disengage a block if he gets blocked. Do you see how wide he has to line up. He is not a good football player sorry.

I just don't get how Maybin is doing it...
Is it just because he is playing with better personnel around him that his effort is enough? He has more sacks than anyone on our team, and with the exception of Dareus, has more than twice as many sacks as anyone on our team. I watched a few, they are all effort type plays, or mismatches, but seriously how couldn’t we get more than 18 tackles?

both plays are proof. My point in focusing on the first play is that if he makes that run of the mill catch, then he never would have been in the position where he needed to make a circus catch to make up for it.

The second play is hardly proof. He just started running one direction and in the matter of 2 seconds you want him completely turned around running the other way.
Physics doesn’t work like that.
And as for overrated, he had 8 receptions for 75 yards and 1 td while facing Revis for most to all day. How many people put up those numbers on Revis?

he got a hand on that ball if i remember correctly
meaning that he had at least a little time to make the adjustment. So yes, he could have caught it, although it would have been an amazing catch. And yes, he had a nice game against a great DB and I don’t want to take that away from him, but in no way does that excuse the one that went right through his hands. Anybody trying to back him up after that is supporting mediocrity, IMO.

now to nitpick. i didn’t like the playcalling on our 2nd to last possession. you give the ball on first down to Choice? give me a break. short passing was working. even a run by spiller would have been better. gailey really makes some headscratching calls in too many games. i think both he and edwards need to be fired.

i think gannon was right on about fitz needing to have better awareness: like throwing the ball out of bounds rather than running to sideline and wasting lots of precious time, or recognizing the defense and calling an audible rather than handing the ball to a 9 man front.

Comes down to not one player being able to make a big play at a crucial time. Not being able to make a defensive stop on two big 3rd down plays, not being able to make a wide open catch, and not being able to make a difficult big time catch. It’s really heartbreaking because I just hate the Jets…Ryan, Maybin, Revis, Sanchez, Plax, Holmes, LT I just hate them all, no rhyme or reason, I just hate their guts, they’re idiots, and I’M PISSED!

Stevie had a very good game today and showed how integral he is to this team. Part of the reason we’ve struggled the few weeks is because he has been off colour (English spelling). He and Fitz clicked very well today.
I’m also delighted that Chandler is getting more involved as well. He is a very useful target. Also feeling quietly confident with A Williams as well. Think he has a good future ahead of him.

on special teams, where he doesnt have to read routes, just play the ball
Heres how I look at today's GREAT game.
The Bills were never going to make the playoffs, nobody what anybody thought/thinks. They just dont have enough talent yet, maybe next year. But you know what, the JETS WONT EITHER. The AFC North has 3 teams with 7 wins all of them will get in. Sanchez has proven, while he can hit wide open receivers he is nothing better than an average QB.
So really if neither of us are going to the playoffs, as long as we play competitve why be so upset, we are both going to be home week 18, so now we get the better draft pick.
The Bills showed they have good coaching and some good players. Fitz, johnson, nelson, and the defense played pretty well with their lack of talent. We need a better defense to win more games. Our offense needs some more talent at WR, but if healthy is one the BEST in the league. Spiller can play in this league. Stevie Johnson proved he is a GREAT receiver, he was amazing against REVIS. Ik he had those drops but he got us in the position to be competitive.
But I hate the Jets and Maybin more than any team/player in the NFL so it is disappointing, but I know that the future of the Buffalo Bills is much brighter than the future of the New York Jets,

but I do hate how he is productive on the Jets and could not get on the field under 2 Bills’ regimes. The only thing I can come up with is that the Jets defense around him is so dramatically better than the Bills, his shortcomings are protected.

LB's need help
It could be coaching or just time but more than once I saw Shep and another LB in the same spot. This should never happen. Who do we turn to fix this problem I would like some real answers on the questions on defense and not just som more smoke and mirror’s and dodge the question? Will Chan or bette yet can Chan lead this team The team has made progress but it is the lack of adjustments that scare me.
Brad Smith should get the gameball and Plaxico Buress should be blamed for the Bills loss.
