We're not close to being a playoff-caliber team, but not far away, either.

This is the paradox of the Buffalo Bills.

This is what we need, only 3 additional things, and we can be a playoff-caliber team....

1.  An awesome wideout not named Stevie Johnson.

Our offense needs a strong passing game, Fred Jackson or not. We have a solid QB, but not a difference-maker at that position. We have a solid O-line, but one that could use depth and has some room for growth.

It comes down to the goon squad. I love 'em. You love 'em. They are still not good enough. We need a threat here, to keep defenses from locking us down. We've got plenty of possession receiver depth (Nelson, Smith, Roosevelt, Spiller). We need a home-run hitter on the edge.

2. A shutdown corner.

This was once Terrence McGee, but no longer. Aaron Williams is coming along nicely, but he is still only part of the equation. Drayton has a bit-role. Leodis is an afterthought. A free agency pick-up here would be a wise allocation of salary cap.

3. An outside linebacker who pressures quarterbacks.

This is the most obvious hole, and perhaps the most difficult to fill. Merriman made a difference for our team when he was healthy, but his best days are behind him. Even he wasn't really the answer. I think we need to draft two OLB's next year. Keep Merriman and Kelsay on the squad to keep a bad situation from being worse.

We must find a solution here. I don't think George Edwards is the (only) reason our pass rush stinks.

We are getting there, Bills fans. Nix will show us the baby. Come down from the ledge.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
