Friday Night Open Thread
Welcome to the weekend, Buffalo Bills fans. Use this thread to blow off a little steam after a long week, and get to know each other a little better. What's everyone doing tonight and this weekend? (Aside from watching the game this Sunday, of course!)
I'm off to Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester this evening to take in a Section V, Class D state qualifier between Letchworth and Geneseo. High school football is great in and of itself, but it's especially fun when you have a relative on a three-time sectional championship team (Letchworth) that's also a Section V Defensive Player of the Year. (Jordan's the hulking No. 56 on the far left in the photo above.) Go Indians! Anyone in the Rochester area going out to Sahlen's tonight?

Maple Grove??
That’s 2 miles from my Mom’s house.
Maple Grove is just a bunch of country farm kids.
Not good for them.
But then…………. FLASHBACK…….1985
(AP) Buffalo News. “I can’t see the Falconer Falcons keeping the Roy-Hart Rams to under 30 points in the championship game this week in Rich Stadium.”
Ingrained in my memory.
It was one of the first few years that Rich Stadium and the Bills hosted high-school playoff games.
They were clearly bigger……. better….. faster… and well resourced.
But the country boys came up to Rich. Wild-eyed walking in there.
Coach usually had an awesome pregame speech for us that actually made his head turn purple.
But this time, Coach was calm. Relaxed. And coach just said, “Boys I have no pep talk for you. You have made me proud all year, so go do what you and let’s win this.”
That was it.
And we kicked their $ss and won.
That great coach was named Bill Race.
PS……. I did a Bills Bounce after the game at the 40 yard line and jumped up to hug my hot little girlfriend….. while everyone else was celebrating on the field.
She’s still Mrs. Thor.

Ha! Cool story.
Maple Grove is a bunch of country farm kids, but so is Letchworth – and probably decidedly fewer country farm kids. Before the JV call-ups, I think they had 17 kids on their team.
Letchworth lost to Fredonia last year in this round, and it was a damned good football game. I expect another great one next week.

Dreading all of the “Honey-do’s” tomorrow that have to happen.
Its all good though, because then I can watch the game on Sunday!

there's a cure for that....
Dreading all of the "Honey-do’s" tomorrow that have to happen.
and it’s rather simple… Get up late, and enjoy the wonderful breakfast you wife made for you!!! Then, strategically, make your way to the couch to let that wonderful food digest. And check in on the game…. If she protests, say, “Honey, come here” and begin to give her a foot/neck rub like she’s never had before… I promise, in no time, the “do” will go away and you’ll enjoy the game!!!!
Course you could take my favorite approach and just lay back on the couch, enjoy the game, and “hope” the honey do list goes away… Usually works until next week anyway….
Optimistic??? Of course I am!! I'm a Bills fan, and as of right now, we are undefeated on the regular season!!!
Things are truly looking up!!!
That won’t work bro……. because I like to cook breakfast for everyone on Saturday and Sunday!
Thanks for the help though!

Finishing up my work (I work at home, and typically do more in the afternoon and evening hours because of homeschooling the kids during the earlier part of the day).

That guy’s your cousin? Second cousin? Third cousin once removed?
My daughter is crawling all over this place having a grand old time. Hopefully I can get my leaves picked up this weekend and the basement done so this little suicide machine can stay mostly safe.
Straight-up cousin. My mom and his dad are siblings.

Hopefully going to get to meet Stevie Johnson tonight! He’s doing an appearance down here in Jamestown with his cousin, rapper Ya Boy. I’m pretty sure we will meet and become lifelong friends.

Gonna call an electrical inspector to approve the house upgrade to 200 amps so I can run my hot tub. Also, gotta get my credit card b.s. straightened out (getting charged on a card that has long since been canceled), and work on an art project for my brother that I don’t really want to do. Oh, and squeeze in some college football.
Go Bills!

Jordan and his mother are life-long (and annoying) Cowboys fans. I think he’d be disowned if he ever played for the Bills.

Just got home from a gourmet dinner at Waffle House. To bed, then work all day tomorrow. Probably working on some trig homework tomorrow, then to work all day on Sunday. Thankfully I have NFL Mobile from Verizon, so I can listen to the radio broadcast on my phone through one of the home theater systems I sell. (Not supposed to do that, but I live in eastern WV and work in northern VA, so my Bills exposure is limited, and nothing will keep me from the Bills.) Cannot wait for the 4th of December, my dad got tickets through Zippo for the Bills-Titans game, and I’ve started growing my beard already! XD

Trolling the 'net on sites like B-Lo Rumblings!
This is kinda relaxing. I think sometimes there’s nothing like having a chill Friday night with the laptop, a little football in the background (even if it is a blowout) and getting the chance to enjoy the company of a couple pups sleeping on the living room floor next to me. I’m also getting the chance to check on some of the smack talk the Jets fans are spouting on various comments sections. Pretty funny. I love how ESPN’s accuscore has the Bills winning 61% of the time though. I would love to shut up a bunch of Fireman Ed wannabes!

Hey guys I am planing on going to the Bills game @ Dallas next week.
Can anyone tell me do they ever do autographs on away games?? Do they do this early?? I would love to get to see some of these guys up close. Any help would be appreciated.

Jerry probably has underground tunnels for the players to arrive through.
good luck, Autographs not so sure, but I always enjoyed going into the stadium early so I could watch them up close during warm ups. Some of them are so huge and others like Ryan Fitzpatrick look so human, if you know what I mean. At the Ralph, we have the players and families parking lot, we also know the route they take when they enter for game day. On game day that is about as up close and personal as you can get though.

Thanks, how early is early on the warm ups??
I have only been to one game two years ago in Tennesse, parking was a mess and I barely made it in in time for the game. I believe it is a 1 pm game, when would you think that would put them doing warmups??

I would shoot for noon on a 1pm start, an hour before. Doesn't totally kill the tailgating. Or for the full adventure as soon as the gates open.

That's great Brian, I hope you enjoyed the evening and the next couple.
Your nephew is probably so wrapped up into things right now and that is the way it should be……………..focused. Those days are long ago, but I remember most of them like they were yesterday. Just know that your nephew is living a part of his life that he will always remember and there is so much character value that he will take away from this. There is no question that it will help him grow to be a fine man in this world because there isn’t much that is more important than the value of a team working together to achieve success and then having family directly or indirectly to share it with. So I say go as often as you can and enjoy it yourself as I am sure there is an influence both ways to surface between you and your cousin.

I’m going to be a homebody and stick around the house most of the weekend. I have work in the yard and the garden to get done. When I get that done I’ll get the wife to help me rake the rest of the leaves. It’s cool here in Rochester, but it’s nice out. I can’t wait for the game on Sunday. After the game I am going curling for a couple of hours at Rochester Curling Club. Should be a blast!

Those Helmets
I live in Cincinnati and a school in the area wears these exact helmets. I can’t believe more than one team wears these things…
