Florence family one of service - BuffaloBills.com
"My dad, my sister, all of my uncles, my grandfather and I’ve got cousins that are active," said Florence. "Most of it is just that commitment of being away from your family, time, risk, everything that goes into it. That’s what they sign up for and I don’t think we give those people enough credit with what they deal with each and every day. The mental stress that they have to deal with, it’s a tough situation because they’re on edge all the time and have to be on alert. There are things that they can’t really talk about when they come back and there are things that they see that they try to forget, but it’s still there."
Aaron Maybin: Rex Ryan saw something that Bills’ coaches didn’t | ProFootballTalk
"But Maybin has three sacks so far this season with the Jets, and he says the difference between his old team and his new team is simple: His old coaches never gave him a chance to show what he could do, and his new coaches are making the most of his talents."
Inside The Bills | Fan Friday 11-4
Chris Brown answers questions on Alex Carrigton, how the Bills "misjudged" Aaron Maybin, Shawne Merriman's presence, Marcell Dareus' helmet coming off, and the tight end's role in Buffalo offense.

Five games to watch this weekend, from NBC SportsTalk | ProFootballTalk
Bills-Jets makes the cut.
Inside The Bills | Simms: The Bills are real
"Going to Buffalo is tough. The Buffalo Bills are real. I believe. They’re 5-2 and the way they are doing it is impressive. Ryan Fitzpatrick is for real. Fred Jackson is a star. I’ve gone up there in years past and even when they weren’t a good team, in that stadium and with that crowd, they’re always tough. It’s going to be a tough test for the Jets."
Inside The Bills | Fred gets midseason Off. MVP
"Schefter has Fred Jackson as his runner-up for league MVP behind Aaron Rodgers and he’s got Jackson as his Offensive MVP. Here’s what Schefter had to say about Jackson with an interesting quote from Drayton Florence. Schefter also had Bills head coach Chan Gailey as his co-runner-up for NFL Coach of the Year with Cincinnati’s Marvin Lewis behind 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh."
Inside The Bills | Levitre to start Sunday
"Yes he’s good to go," said Gailey. "He practiced again today."

Inside The Bills | Dareus wins Rookie of the Week
"Bills NT Marcell Dareus was named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 8 after his big game against the Redskins. Dareus was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on NFL.com/rookies."
After Further Review: These Steelers know how to man up - CBSSports.com Football
"I have been praising Bills safety George Wilson all season. He always shows up. Watching him live against the Redskins, I appreciate him even more. He is a good football player. He has a nose for the ball. A former receiver, he also tackles better than you would think for a guy who made a position move. If Wilson isn't in the Pro Bowl this year, it might be a crime." Also a nice spotlight on Stevie Johnson.
2011 NFL Midseason Report includes awards, story of year - Don Banks
The story of the year is the turnaround of teams like the Bills and the potential end of some playoff droughts. Comebacks are the trend of the year and pretty much responsible for the story of the year. The upset of the year is Buffalo's victory of the Patriots. The Executive of the year is Buddy Nix. Don Banks apparently like dem Bills.
Jones feels great, hopes to burn Jets - The Buffalo News
"Two things thrilled Donald Jones as he practiced all week: He felt no pain in his ankle that caused him to miss the last two games, and he's returning to the lineup at the right time."
Buffalo Bills’ stars scheduled to appear in East Rochester | Democrat and Chronicle

Rex Ryan is 3-1 against the Bills but the Jets are winless on the road this season. Can they protect Mark Sanchez? James Walker thinks these notes are keys to the game.
Chris Kelsay says it's fun to be a Buffalo Bill | Democrat and Chronicle
"Ever since that epic victory over New England, I've noticed a vibe that hasn't pulsated on One Bills Drive since at least 2004, when Mike Mularkey's first team won six in a row in the second half before flying into the side of a mountain named the Pittsburgh Steelers in the season finale and blowing a chance to qualify for the NFL playoffs."
Buffalo Bills' resurgence a regional pick-me-up | Democrat and Chronicle
"The Bills are winning and western New Yorkers are happy. But what drives that gratification, and does it translate to any economic benefits?"
Fred Jackson of Bills presents challenge for Jets - NYPOST.com

Stopping Fred Jackson won't be easy for Jets - Newsday
"He's an unbelievable athlete and incredibly strong," Jets linebacker and former teammate Aaron Maybin said. "He's also a determined guy. You look at his story and where he's come and how much he's been able to accomplish, he's a fighter. He's someone as a defense you have to make sure you always know where he is on the football field. He's a major weapon for them."
Mark Sanchez faces a challenge in Buffalo's clever, calculating coverage | NJ.com
"Buffalo has been labeled a high-risk, high-reward defense because of the route-jumping style and press coverages in which so many of their interceptions have come. But one thing was readily apparent to the four quarterbacks watching film throughout the week — the level of risk involved (the Bills have given up just five passing plays of 40 or more yards) is well calculated and well executed."
Jets turn focus to stopping Bills' Jackson - NorthJersey.com
"Our priority up front is to stop the run," defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said. "It’s weird to say — we’ll get in situations against Buffalo and we’re going to dare a spread offense to throw. But I think there are going to be some plays where you might have to do that."
Maybin making his mark, but with Jets not Bills - Yahoo! Sports
"Honestly, it’d be hard to sit here and wonder why, and that’s not really even a concern for me anymore," Maybin said. "I stopped worrying about what went wrong in Buffalo a long time ago."
NY Jets' Shonn Greene could carry day against Buffalo Bills in Week 9 - NY Daily News
"Given the Jets’ recent history against the Bills, Greene figures to play a prominent role Sunday in Buffalo. The Jets averaged 279 rushing yards against the Bills in the four games since Ryan took over, a stat made more impressive by the 3-1 record and two victories on the road."

Forgot to mention that the Bills’ fans didn’t and still don’t see it in him either…

Eric Wood
I still laugh when I think of Eric Wood verbally owning Maybin in practice. I think it was something to the effect of “How about you earn some of that money that you don’t deserve.” Gotta love it when a blue-collar guy calls out a prima dona…

That whole thing seems like a jab at chan gailey. From rex ryan he does one every week it seems and its getting old.

Two Bills head coaches including pretty good defensive guys in Dick Jauron, Perry Fewell, and Dave Wannstedt didn’t see enough in him to keep him. I’m not losing sleep over it.

Can you believe he actually complained about playing time? How about actually doing something with the number of snaps that you are given so the coaching staff can trust you with more? He didn’t do that. We all remember training camp and the preseason games this year. Gailey gave him an opportunity. He got much more of an opportunity than I thought that he was going to get. He didn’t take advantage of it while he was here. He might be now but he didn’t when he was here.
Love the article about Kirk Morrison.

It does seem like a cheap Gailey jab. As for the odd foot thing, I hope we help New Jersey’s coach put his in his mouth!

Getting my curmudgeonly soapbox out
You know, I appreciate the thanks I get for being a nine-year veteran of the Army from 1981-1990. However, thanks are usually all us vets ever get. Vets appreciate the thanks but we need jobs more. The unemployment rate of veterans is about 50% higher than it is for the rest of the general population and getting worse as more and more servicemen return from the Middle East.
So save your empty meaningless platitudes. Thanking a veteran and then still throwing him out on the street shows more about how our society really cares about its vets than any fly-over or memorial service. If you REALLY want to thank a veteran, HIRE HIM.

Unemployment rate among former military is higher than the general populace. I find this a terrible statistic.

What makes it especially hard is a lot of skills in the military don’t necessarily translate directly to the workforce, military job descriptions have to be put in civilian terms, civilians have to be educated about how much military personnel can do and have done, etc.
It took me 3+ years after separating from active duty to find comparable work/pay in the civilian world.

Even when they do it still sucks. My stepdad works with a guy who is a vet. The vet fixed planes for 10 years even worked on the blue angels appatently. the vet works in baggage now instead of the 100k job he should have. Why is this he would have to go through two years training to get the license.

Yup. I had been a meteorologist for more than a dozen years. Had a M.S. from the best meteorology school in the country (Penn St.). I’m “not qualified” to work for the NWS because I’m lacking a physics class + a lab, even though my master’s classes were all more in-depth versions of all the topics you’d cover in any general class. Plus to take a lab class now, I’d have to pay about $1500 and attend class 5 days per week (not even the same time every day, of course). It just wasn’t worth it to work for the NWS, especially with the state of the government financially right now.

Loving it.....
Was the Pats game on TV here in L.A.? I don’t think it was…..but still, 4 games so far is great. Couldn’t be happier about it. If they keep winning, I’m sure we’ll get a couple more…plus I’m going to the Chargers game (which will also definitely be televised here). This will be the most Bills games I’ve seen since the early 2000’s when I’d go to my friends house every weekend to watch them on Sunday Ticket. Can’t do that now though (daddy responsibilities prevent it)…….so nice to see the Bills playing in my own living room!!!

Since we dont have a team, cbs or fox usually try and give us the best match ups, or teams playing well. This sunday will mark the fifth time l.a gets to see buffalo. This means the bills r considered good, and fun to watch. I dont think it has anything to do w a future team in l.a.
