1. Horrible game. 2. Horrible game. 3. Horrible. 4. Horrible.
1.) Give the Defense the benefit of the doubt for today. Yes, a few stops late might have helped bring up a comeback. Nevertheless the D played well enough early that the offense should have held up its end of the bargain earlier in the game. The Jets ran about 3,545 plays in the first quarter and got 3 points for them. Not bad, and certainly good enough to be competitive.
2.) For all the talk about Ryan Fitzpatrick being a smart QB, a cerebral QB, an Ivy-League-Wonderlic-Ace-ing QB, he's at his best when he "just plays". I know that's a lot of QB cliches for one thought. Fitz has a gunslinger's mentality in a game manager's body. I thought the game plan and the stifling Jets pass defense both played against Fitz's strengths. Late in the game Fitz just seemed to cut loose and we got some ball movement. The 2 pt conversion was a sad little hurrah.
3.) This team is so close to being very, very good. Top three needs:
-Deep threat at WR
-Pass rushing LB
-A Chester Taylor-style backup for Fred Jackson
4.) We knew all along that eventually the short passing game would have to open up or die. It died. Don't panic. There's still a lot of season to go. Schedule gets tough, lots of road games. If this year's Bills are worth it, they'll prove equal to the task. I like their Chan-ces.
