Dear Santa, is it maybe as simple as a dominant pass rusher?

Very short quick points to look at...

  1. Not having Kyle Williams (he played but let's face it he wasn't KW with that foot) or T. Troup this year was huge. Williams' penetration and Troup's size would have taken up more blockers, leaving us with Dareus able to be more free to make plays and less talented players to look better in our defense simply by having to deal with less players. If those two are healthy and ready next year, I don't see how our defense doesn't vastly improve.
  2. The offense, if they don't have the pressure of scoring 30 points per game to keep the Bills in the game, I think will be good enough if our defense has said improvements. And assuming Wood is back healthy which I think he will be (his broken leg was tougher to come back from than an ACL).
  3. With the addition of a pass rusher that teams have to account for on EVERY OBVIOUS PASSING PLAY, which I put in CAPS because of how important that is, our defense takes on a whole new dynamic. We would have 3 players (Dareus, Williams, TBD pass rusher) an opposing offense would have to key on, freeing up 1 or 2 of them to make a play and allowing our 'lesser' defenders to look a whole lot better and get pressure themselves. And of course that then trickles down to our DB's looking better.

Fairly obvious points, but with all the doom and gloom going on I like to think of 'happy' scenarios. As a side note, if RG3 is there yes I am all in on that train. But if we can find a pass rusher (big if but it only takes 1 time) I really believe, despite what we've seen the past 6 weeks, that this Bills team can be a playoff team next year.

Merry Christmas y'all!
