Why Won't Bills Extend Johnson Now?

This angers me. The link is to a story on PFT in which Johnson states:

We tried to do our negotiating and it was turned down,” Johnson said Wednesday, via the Associated Press.

I know it shouldn't be so infuriating and that somewhere, somehow Buddy Nix has a plan for signing Stevie Johnson to a long term deal. Or at least I certainly hope that the Bills plan to extend the one wide receiver in the NFL who has made Darrelle Revis look like merely a good cornerback. Successful teams are built to win their divisions and that means obtaining and retaining players that hurt division foes. Johnson, as has been detailed in other forums, is just that sort of player.

It can't be the 2011 cap count as Buffalo is well below the limit. Further, signing him now - particularly to a front loaded deal that counted towards this years cap - may help the cap situation in 2012. Not only that, taking care of Johnson now would have to reassure guys in the locker room that they would be taken care of and not left wondering about their status with the organization.

What are your thoughts on the matter?
