Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins GameThread

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills, Dec 18, 2011 1:00 PM EST

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - NOVEMBER 20: Reggie Bush #22 of the Miami Dolphins (R) shakes hands with C.J. Spiller #28 of the Buffalo Bills following a game at Sun Life Stadium on November 20, 2011 in Miami Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

Buffalo Bills (5-8) vs. Miami Dolphins (4-9)
Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 1:00 PM ET
Ralph Wilson Stadium, Orchard Park, NY

Bills inactives: WR Naaman Roosevelt (scratch), WR Kamar Aiken (scratch), TE Scott Chandler (ankle), TE Fendi Onobun (scratch), OT Sam Young (scratch), DE Jarron Gilbert (scratch), FS Joshua Nesbitt (scratch)

Six straight losses. A Buffalo Bills team once in contention for a division title and the first meaningful season in more than a decade has lost six straight games, been eliminated from playoff contention, and are playing for pride today in front of a non-capacity crowd at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The game's been blacked out locally. It must be Bills football in December!

Still, if there's any amount of satisfaction that the Bills can wring out of their twelfth straight season without the playoffs, it'll come by beating the Miami Dolphins today. This is a Dolphins team that, despite starting 0-7 and being coached by the lamest of lame ducks, absolutely throttled the Bills a month ago, winning by a score of 35-8 in Miami. Exacted revenge would help Bills fans forget about the team's overwhelming number of problems for a little while. Let's see if they can't get it done. GO BILLS!

I just got a new plasma TV

so I can watch the Bills get crushed in 600 hz splendor….

I’m actually hoping for a win today since Buffalo is doomed in Denver and New England. 6-10 here we come! Ah, for the heady days of steady 7-9 mediocrity of the Jauronian Era…

I wasn't sure I was going to like the white helmets but seeing them in the practice footage, I've got to say that I love the look.

I’ve had HD, just on a 120 hz LCD. I actually watched most of that terrible Bucs-Cowboys game just because I was mesmerized by the picture.

I do try to give credit where credit is due. Nice strip by Aaron Williams, too….

Spiller has 57 yards already. He’s on pace for 200….not that there’s any chance of that happening. It would be just so cool to hang 200 on the Dolphins, though, especially with their 3rd rated run defense.

Might be a weird question but, if Fitz has to cock back so hard for throws, why doesn’t he just work out more? I mean Tebow can make these huge heaves down field look easy, but I mean he is jacked. So, couldn’t he just workout his arms and improve his strength? Or does that not really matter for a QB’s arm strength?

Throwing arm strength...

Has nothing to do with gym strength. Tim Linecum is no body builder and throws a baseball hard. Anderson Sliva is a skinny dude and his fists are deadly. It’s mechanical. Some of it can be taught, some can’t. Bench pressing does not make a franchise qb.

Maybe I just keep remembering the one he missed against Pitt’s backups in ’04. He missed like a 40 yarder going in to the half and you could really tell that it demoralized everyone.

What I’m saying is, that the ones he misses, come back to bite the Bills on the a** at the end of the game.

I agree that he’s hit a decent amount of game winners, but we really don’t get a lot of chances to do that, so I’ll take your word for it.

Okay, I just realized my issue here.

This is a rare game that’s on TV here (even the first Miami game wasn’t, thank you, J-Ville, for pretending to be our team :-/), and I suddenly see the difficulty in my setup. At least in my last two apartments I could walk five steps to see the game… this one I have to walk downstairs.

Next apartment, if I can swing it alone, is gonna be a studio. Hell, even then I’m getting a new monitor that I can run the cable/satellite box right in.

As for the game, I have to say the first half really feels like the season in general — signs of good things to come, but a few horrible plays on each side of the ball. Though Griff fans could be happy, tell you the truth.

If Ryan Fitzpatrick does not take the Bills to the Big Game, ever, I will run through Harvard's campus wearing a Yale jersey. I am that sure. Or that crazy.

where's the sense of urgency?

The team just kind of milling around for about 30 seconds after each play…..good teams running a hurry up are back at the line with 30 seconds left on the play clock….especially on a run

I wasn't sure I was going to like the white helmets but seeing them in the practice footage, I've got to say that I love the look.

There’s a difference between not understanding him as a pick and not thinking he’ll be any good in the league, though. I don’t understand the pick, either, but I think he’s starting to come out as a viable weapon for the team.

I can’t believe I have wasted another Sunday with this crap. We were better last year. This team quit after the Redskin game. We continue to stick and I don’t see the light at the end of the rainbow. I’m made at myself for believing we might be turning it around after week 7. we Stink.

by webadinc on Dec 18, 2011 3:58 PM EST reply actions

We were NOT better last year, damn it!

There are too many people saying that. We’ve got a good starting crew that are out, our defense is better (that long TD, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt after how long they were on the field today) and I can tell you the pieces we need (OLB, depth, WR, depth, QB — I can’t argue with anyone who says so after today; and did I mention depth? draft the letters first, in any order).

No, Gailey’s refusal to run the ball.

again

you mean refusal to run on 3rd and 24? refusal to run when miami is showing 9 in the box and blitzing each gap?

I have low expectations. But high hopes.

the plays to be made

were in fitz and his receivers hands and they didnt make them

I have low expectations. But high hopes.

That was later in the game. I’m speaking as whole in the game. It’s it working why stop using it.

Sorry, but I don’t buy that. Fitz wasn’t accomplishing anything by passing it. When the pass isn’t working, go back to the run, period. Spiller was running well.

we kept getting line penalties kept finding ourselves in 3 and 7+ and miami was showing a ton of guys on the front. we can go ahead and run, but its not being abaondoned as much as miami challenged fitz to beat them and he choked.

I have low expectations. But high hopes.

by greysquirrel on Dec 18, 2011 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

yup

i mean the d choked on that 76 yard run. but they at least were forcing some fumbles while fitz would go right back and throw a pick in the face of pressure. no

I have low expectations. But high hopes.
