HAMILTON: Spiller Is Nothing But A Toy - WGR 550
"You’re kidding, right? You drafted this guy 9th overall, with all the needs you had on this football club and two very good backs already on the team and you can’t give him the ball 25 or 30 times? BUST!!!!!!! There’s no other way around it, he is Buddy Nix’s and Chan Gailey’s first, 1st round bust. I don’t care what he does from this day forward, if he can’t handle the duties of a #1 back because he’s not big enough, he’s a toy. Yes, the Buffalo Bills drafted a toy with the 9th overall pick in 2010."
Fitzpatrick playing like overpaid backup, not franchise QB - Jerry Sullivan
"Raise your hand if you still have confidence in Fitz. His teammates must be losing faith. I imagine Fitz has even lost some confidence in himself. You can't throw the ball the way he did Sunday, and during his team's seven-game losing streak, and retain the swagger you had when things were going well."
If not Bills, someone will pay Johnson - Bucky Gleason
"Johnson is a good guy despite the childish antics over the years. He's also a good teammate, one who stood up for Ryan Fitzpatrick again Sunday after another debacle in Ralph Wilson Stadium. He's a darned good receiver, too, which is why he'll be in an enviable position as a free agent after the season."
Close To Tears - The Buffalo News
"Kelsay paused, searching for words. His eyes were red and welling up with tears. You could see him choking up and fighting to hold back his emotions. He hesitated for a full 15 seconds before continuing."
Bills' offense continues going in wrong direction - The Buffalo News
"The story of the day was just interceptions and penalties," Fitzpatrick said. "We can't, obviously, have turnovers. ... Our defense played well today, and they held us in the game. It's hard for me to go out there and turn the ball over three times and struggle like I did today."
Spiller produces his best game yet - The Buffalo News
"He rushed for a personal high 91 yards on just 12 carries and a touchdown and finished with a game-high nine receptions for 76 yards and a TD."
Day of the Dolphin rivalry fading - The Buffalo News
"There were no swarms of Buffalo fans at Sunday's 30-23 loss to Miami. The game was not televised within a 75-mile radius of Ralph Wilson Stadium because it couldn't sell out, the second time in the past five years. Every other Dolphins game here has been a sellout since 1990, as far back as Bills blackout data goes." Get your Tim Graham Bills fix, folks.

Turnovers, penalties sink Bills vs. Dolphins - BuffaloBills.com
"The Bills tried to make it interesting late. Down 30-13 with five minutes left, Buffalo got a quick touchdown and added a field goal after recovering an onsides kick with just over two minutes remaining to pull with a touchdown. But their second onsides attempt failed and Miami killed enough of the clock to post a 30-23 win sweeping the season series from Buffalo. The loss was the seventh straight for the Bills dropping them to 5-9 on the season."

"Punter Brian Moorman was beaming Saturday night during team meetings wearing his Pittsburg State Gorillas gear as his alma mater won the Division II National Championship over Wayne State Saturday afternoon."
Inside The Bills | Dareus update
"Dareus left the game with an apparent left hand/wrist injury and then returned to the game. He then left the game a second time and did not return. The defensive lineman was not available for comment after the game as he was having x-rays done on his hand/wrist."
Inside The Bills | Stevie insists he’s fine
"It’s my groin," said Johnson. "It’s been bothering me all season. It’s acting up, but it’s been like this for the entire season. I think it happened on either a slant or something. I don’t know if I was trying to get out of a tackle and kind of pulled it a little bit, but I’ve been dealing with it all year. It’s just no different, it popped up again this game. I’m cool. I’ll be ready to go next week."
Inside The Bills | Flo warns jobs are on the line
"A loss hurts if you lose by three or you lose by 30," said Florence. "If you’re playing a preseason game or you’re playing regular season game nobody likes to lose. Losing "stinks" and if we don’t get this thing cleaned up and end on a good note myself included we’re all going to be looking for jobs next year."
Inside The Bills | Expecting to win?
"I haven’t really seen that confidence lately. Coach Gailey always preaches expect to win when you step on the field and those first six, seven games I think we expected to win every time we stepped on the field. I don’t think we expect to win now. That’s just kind of the feeling I get, I could be wrong, but we need to get back to that."
Inside The Bills | Comparing slides
"I think it’s more disappointing [than last year]," Florence said. "We start off good 5-2 and we just hit this skid in the road and we haven’t been able to bounce back. The good teams bounce back from this. They may lose three in a row, but they bounce back and find a way to win. We just haven’t been able to find a way to win."

Bills mount late comeback, but lose again | Democrat and Chronicle
"Buffalo scores 16 fourth-quarter points, but can't overcome 3 interceptions by Ryan Fitzpatrick and 200 yards by Miami's Reggie Bush."
Ryan Fitzpatrick and Buffalo Bills receivers lose magic | Democrat and Chronicle
"The boos fell like snowflakes on Ryan Fitzpatrick and the moribund Bills offense on Sunday."
Another dismal day for Buffalo Bills | Democrat and Chronicle
"What a dismal, disappointing day in the life of the Buffalo Bills. They couldn't have dialed up a more lackluster performance Sunday in a game against an AFC East rival that had dissed them and beaten the pulp out of them the first time around. And believe it or not, I was surprised."
Wrap-up: Dolphins 30, Bills 23 - AFC East Blog - ESPN
"Defensively, the Bills don't do anything well. They can't stop the run or rush the passer and need to spend a lot of resources in the draft and free agency to improve on that side of the football. Offensively, it also looks like the Bills may have jumped the gun on signing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a $59 million extension. "

It’s clear King is going for a certain style. I’m not sure if you’re part of the writing world, but his column screams to me as a vehicle to perform like a one-on-one conversation with you. It’s not uptight and it’s not perfect. And it takes skill to allign one’s writing style with a creative voice and vehicle to mass amounts of people.
And it works. You’re talking about it. You know exactly who it is when you read lines from the article. You even quote his own words.
I applaud him for having the stones to ramble and write in the manner he does…and to maintain a fanbase in the process for a good number of years.
Not every piece of writing on sports needs to sound like a stat machine or the New York Post. We’re talking about a sport where men wear spandex, spit when on camera, brawl for a bouncing ball, and throw tantrums when they drop that ball.

Yeah, I hear what you’re saying, but I don’t find anything about what he writes actually insightful at all. He follows the same formula each week, which is what makes it easy to identify. Easterbrook does the same thing in his TMQ column on ESPN, which I would argue is 10x funnier, more eye-opening as it challenges conventional wisdom, and doesn’t treat the readers like they couldn’t read a 2nd grade book report.
Not every piece of writing on sports needs to sound like a stat machine or the New York Post.
Not asking it to – I love reading Simmons stuff on the NBA, loved Dr. Z’s and Hunter S. Thompson’s columns and really enjoy Easterbrook’s stuff. Can’t stand King or Reilly or guys like that (they remind me of Dave Barry).

Two things

“A loss hurts if you lose by three or you lose by 30,” said Florence. "If you’re playing a preseason game or you’re playing regular season game nobody likes to lose. Losing “stinks” and if we don’t get this thing cleaned up and end on a good note myself included we’re all going to be looking for jobs next year."
Florence is the one most likely to be looking for a job after his complete collapse this season. He can’t do anything right. There were perhaps one or two plays yesterday where he did something positive and several where he did something mind-numbingly stupid. I’m not a fan of deriding a player for a bad performance here and there but this is a pattern.
2) Fitzpatrick had an awful day, but toward the end (what I saw of it because CBS interrupted the last minute and a half with useless jawing about the Pats-Broncos game that hadn’t even started yet) Fitzpatrick actually moved the ball fairly competently. Maybe he needs to get his brain out of it and we need to run a few series as a no-huddle to start the Denver game next week. Hopefully we could gas their D early then make a better go of it. Just a thought.

Came off the gas during that time. No blitzes, just prevent. When the heat was on early, Fitz and his stupid o line screwed everything up. If I’m the FO, I don’t extend another player midway through the season ever again! They show their true colors after they get paid. First it was kelsay, then Fitz and now pears. All 3 of which are some bums and should have never been starting let alone getting contract extensions.

We can’t justify Spiller, so we should stop trying. He is what he is. I think Choice/Spiller/Jackson is a great combination going forward.
Hamilton toed the line effectively, but then crossed it when a) he called Spiller a bust (he’s not), and b) used more than one exclamation point to emphasize his point, which is a major pet peeve of mine.

Furthermore, 12 rushes for 91 yards and nine catches for 76 yards is a good day for any back in the NFL. It’s ridiculous that anyone would be disappointed with that performance.
It’s looking like Spiller just needs touches to get into a rhythm, which is exactly what Fred needs. It’s starting to feel like we’re going to need to be a run-first team in the near future.

Or the team decides not to extend Fred Jackson so they can have one more of “their” guys playing and slowly replacing the leftovers. I see Jackson in a different uniform next year. There’s my bold prediction for the offseason. They’ve looked for every excuse they could have to phase out Jackson.

Its fun to think quarterback, but i think the odds of nix taking one in the first are close to 0%.
WGR talks about the Bills? In fairness, I enjoy the morning show and now that’s the only one I can hear. 4:45 every day they reduce their signal to prevent signal blocking, and the ROC is in that firing line.
As frustrating as it is to listen to Schopp and Bull, it’s the one place I could count on hearing about the Bills. But all they ever do now is discuss the Sabres, and it was getting annoying.

I called and spoke with Greg. He knew exactly what was happening and understood my frustration. He seemed to imply this has always gone on, but it’s only in the past month that the signal drops. If you stop under the bridge (I don’t advise it) just before the 15a exit on 390 south, you can get a clear signal. I think a year ago, they stopped carrying the feed on 950am. I guess they don’t feel Rocheste is important enough as a market for Buffalo Sports radio, whereas the NFL finds ROC important enough in terms of a blackout.
Oh and I just realized I can catch up on WGR’s website.

I believe Hamilton served the bust label up based on the limited amount of touches Spiller received. 19 is too few for trhe only guy producing. He’s clearly not a full-time back and I agree with Hamilton that he’s a bust in that light.

I think you missed what he was saying – essentially, as a #9 overall pick, Spiller is a bust if he can’t play most of the game – I think Hamilton actually thinks Spiller can play and is more upset at Gailey for not using him enough. I agree with the sentiment but don’t care for his writing.

Hamilton on Spiller
I pretty much ride the ebb and flow of what is referred to as “Chix” around these parts. I’ve felt they have have made some questionable moves on their, but also some good ones as well. I was o.k. (sort of) with the Spiller pick at the time, and I’ve always felt the guy just needed a chance. No way is he a bust. But I have to agree with Paul on this point:
You’re kidding, right? You drafted this guy 9th overall, with all the needs you had on this football club and two very good backs already on the team and you can’t give him the ball 25 or 30 times?
When i heard Chan say that during the post game, it literally blew my mind. No excuses for drafting a player #9 overall, a RB at that, when you feel he can’t handle the workload. I know he got “21” touches, which is great, but you’ve got to be kidding me.
For the first time in this current regime, the draft day decision, followed by the above statement has seriously shaken my confidence in Buddy and Chan. Not to mention we are on the verge the second 8 game losing streak in their tenure….

i have no damn sympathy for kelsay
i still remember the play when it was 3rd and medium and bush was way behind the first round marker and a good LB would have easily wrapped him up…. but not kelsay, he did his usual tackling self… bush wasnt even slowed down…
hate kelsay… and him getting a contract extension further proves how horrible nix and ralph are… no future
can always count on ur reaction to make me smile.
i guess were focusing on him missing reggie bush in open space (something alot of guys would do) and not on him bull rushing colombo and getting a strip/sack when the bills desperately needed it?
and of course his contract extension alone is enough to show how nix has no idea what hes doing. bravo

I was at the game (sounds like you were too or you’re out of town) and it was awful watching Kelsay get thrown around all game… He literally got turned around and had his back to the action about 7 or 8 times – he is atrocious, with or without the incomplete pass strip sack to his credit

we had the momentum if he had made the tackle when needed… the strip sack was later in the game by when he had already screwed the game up…
and it was not an open space tackle… he had his hands all over bush… even a slightly better lb would have easily brought down bush… and since when is bush this elite rb….

I'm willing to say that it appears Spiller had a good game. (Didn't "see" him play.)
I can only see the highlights on nfl.com. But there is some concern for him not being able to rush more than 12 times. If he was the only guy performing in the form of POINTS yesterday, why in the world wasn’t he the main person touching the ball? Even 40 times yesterday. There are two games left. What are they saving him for? The way they value his contributions to the team puzzle me to no end. It appears they value him enough not to overexpose or injure him. But it also seems as though they don’t value him enough to let him mature on the field and play more than he has. If I was Spiller, i’d want out of a Bills uniform as fast as possible.
I’m always going to be a Jackson guy. When he’s healthy, he needs to be the main guy running the ball and catching screens. He just does things better than most backs. But it may be time to consider that Spiller could be less of a bust than we all think and that lack of production is on the coaching staff in some significant manner.
I’m more frustrated this year than i was last year at this time.

The game was not televised within a 75-mile radius of Ralph Wilson Stadium because it couldn’t sell out, the second time in the past five years.
Is that info about the distance true? I know they don’t show it in Syacuse and that’s a good 150 miles from Buffalo. It can’t (or shouldn’t) be both things simply because Syracuse lacks their own professional team and choses Buffalo as their “home” team. Seems unfair, doesn’t it?

Hamilton cant be serious
“If you look at the draft, Buffalo didn’t even get the best 1st round RB. San Diego took Ryan Mathews 12th and Detroit took Jahvid Best with the 30th pick.”
Ryan Mathews is splitting carries with Tolbert and hasn’t been great by any means. Jahvid Best has had several concussions and is currently on the IR. I am not sure if i am alone on this thinking, but how can he say for sure that Spiller is worse than both of them. Its only 2 years in and I know spiller will be better than both of them.
