been playing all season with a bad knee, torn groin, seperated shoulder, broken finger and torn ligments in my hand...and some of you saying i dont put it all out there. SMH. I tried to go back in the game 4 times, begged coach to put me in even tho my groin was killin. Coach wouldnt put me back in the game. no matter how hard i begged it wasnt happening. I die for the Bills, every sunday. Would have died to go back in the game when i was tryin to. But coach said no. what Chan says goes.

He just posted this.

wow. We should resign him for 8.5 million. I want to see what he can do against Revis without a torn groin, etc.

and he has achieved what he sought out to do

get public sympathy so he can get the money… first 2 comments say pay the man!! haha…

funny i dont hear other players around the league crying about their injuries…

another way to look at this would be do you want to pay 9 million dollars a year to someone who is so easily injured at several locations? how long after he gets the money would he go on IR? how many 16 game seasons will he have?

you bring up a great point

but anybody can be get a season ending injury, those are more freak than normal injuries that Stevie has. and plus he has played through them the entire year and has played well through them. I’ve always thought they should resign him, for how much idk. But he is clearly going to put it all out there for the team, and play well against the best CB in the NFL, so they need to sign him quickly before another team can.

I would wager that folks who are screaming “pay the man” felt that way before SJ posted this…just a guess.

I was

But I get where Statcruncher is coming from. And to be honest, if he didn’t propose a counter argument I doubt that anyone else here would have.

And his concerns are legit, a lot of players play threw hell during their contract year and the shut down (Albert Haynesworth anyone). I just don’t see Stevie as being one of those guys. Never the less, it’s good that someone said, if for no other reason then to have a short debate on it and then toss it by the way said.

I am just appalled that so many people use facebook and twitter as a means to attack bills players. You want to tell stevie he is a bum pay for a game ticket and say it face to face like a man. alot of players use facebook and twitter to give stuff away to fans. George wilson gives out game tickets signed and sent a helmet. Stevie has given out a bunch of deucebrand watches. David nelson gave away cleats. Thats just off the top off my head.

Bills fan use twitter and facebook as a platform to attack bills players. Its pathetic this is what his statement is really about. It goes beyond how bills fan on twitter treated donte whitner. They treat alot of bills players that way. While these players use it to connect with fans and give stuff away to fans. If people want to attack a player be man and do it in person. Stop hiding behind

I’m pretty sure the reason he was writing this was because people on Facebook/Twitter have been ripping into him all year, for things like not coming into the game at the end last week, getting penalized for excessive celebration, etc. Stevie is an NFL player, and it hurts his pride to have people questioning his effort when he wants so hard for Buffalo to win each week.
As far as being injury-prone goes, I think the fact that despite all his injuries Stevie has continued to produce as a borderline WR1 this year and has played in every game shows that Stevie shouldn’t be considered “injury-prone.”

stevie borderline wr1?

and look around the league, players will play through anything in their contract year only to totally break down the next year

by statcruncher on Dec 19, 2011 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

he has consistently gotten better (numbers wise)

but the dude just gets open. He is not the fastest, strongest but he has good moves and just gets open. If he had a QB who could hit him on a deep post he would have even better numbers this year. If you remember from the game Stevie is running a skinny post deep and Fitz throws it like a streak, 10 ft behind him and 10 yards ahead of him…

by tomcs on Dec 19, 2011 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

like i said above

i have nothing against stevie’s play…i even like his antics…

after reading this, everyone’s sentiment here is to pay the man…. the article just had the exact opposite effect on me…i am not liking how he is coming out and trying to influence the crowd… i want even more for the FO to be cautious when paying him… check out his durability, his character moving forward, everything…

by statcruncher on Dec 19, 2011 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

ok fair enough

I definitely see where you are coming from. Personally I think it is a great move by him and the right move. He clearly wants to stay here, the FO needs to step up, if they dont they will definitely lose the faith of much of the fanbase, including me. We have the cap space to pay him, we cant be cheap and lose a great player. We can’t make another big mistake like the Fitz extension.

you failed to acknowledge DanRoc’s point – one that I think is certainly valid.

by J2 on Dec 20, 2011 9:04 AM EST up reply actions

go around and check the facebook/twitter pages of players around the league… if he works in a high profile environment, then he better develop a thick skin…

what do you want me to do? feel pity for him? do i really want to pay a guy 9 million dollars who becomes affected mentally so easily then? how many more balls will he drop if we go to playoffs? how about that?

by statcruncher on Dec 20, 2011 9:34 AM EST up reply actions

go around and check the facebook/twitter pages of players around the league

no thanks – have fun if that’s what you’re into.

what do you want me to do?

recognize that there might be something to DanRoc’s point instead thinking your right and you couldn’t possibly be wrong

by J2 on Dec 20, 2011 9:41 AM EST up reply actions

this is not about who is right or wrong…

this is just a counter argument… its upto whoever reads both arguments to pick which one they lean towards… why would i just take any argument at its face value?

danroc said stevie posted because fans were pestering him… my argument was why should i trust big games and big money on a guy who gets affected by fans… infact why is he spending so much time going through his twitter account? if little things affect his focus, then how focused will he be when he has to catch important passes in playoffs… infact, we can already see how many crucial passes he drops

by statcruncher on Dec 20, 2011 9:50 AM EST up reply actions

every WR drops passes; video gaming, tweeting, face book and doing whatever on your free time is not what leads to dropped passes. That’s just dumb.

You cannot expect these guys to do nothing but football 24X7 – they’ll get more burned out than they are. And you didn’t provide a counter argument to DanRoc – you completely dismissed his entire point and went off on how Stevie isn’t a WR#1.

by J2 on Dec 20, 2011 10:04 AM EST up reply actions   2 recs

this is amusing

it’s my choice what to acknowledge what not to acknowledge :)

if i didnt acknowledge something then that means i am not strongly for it or against it… so if i didnt acknowledge it I dont care enough to talk abou it… i only replied to the part that I felt like acknowledging…

infact, if you hadnt started this i wouldnt even had posted a possible counter argument because i dont care…

it appears like you are the one who is about being right and wrong, not me… only a person who is about being right all the time puts a counter argrument to everything :)

by statcruncher on Dec 20, 2011 10:20 AM EST up reply actions   1 recs

not really – I agree with both of you because you are probably both right. I could care less about me being right because I never made any claims until I talked about Stevie’s dropped passes – so i ’m not sure how that got brought up

by J2 on Dec 20, 2011 10:24 AM EST up reply actions

Replying to your question about if Stevie is a WR1

In my opinion, Stevie is not a gamebreaker. He is not a Larry Fitzgerald or a Calvin Johnson. That’s obvious. I think that he is still someone who could be close to the number one wide receiver on a team, or one of the best number twos if he had an excellent teammate on the other side.
The stats seem to prove it too – if there are 32 teams in the league, that makes 32 WR1’s.
Stevie ranks 19th out of all WR’s in receiving yardage and tied for 18th in receiving TD’s this year. Obviously not top ten, but borderline WR1, definitely.
I don’t think it’s a contract gimmick either – he had similar stats last year.

I want to see him with a good #2 and a QB who can get him the ball accurately with consistency. I think we’d find he’d be borderline top 10 then.

Nah

I’ll suggest SJ isn’t even close to top ten in league strictly based on who’s throwing to him. When we gonna figure out a franchise qb is vital. SJ would be top 5 with a franchise qb but he’s not. Done. We had Lee Evans yet we couldn’t get him the ball, heck we were lucky to give qb enough time to release ball w/o a sack on most occasions before Chan.

its rare that i agree with anything u say, but in this case i do.
i dont think stevie should deserve overly high praise for being a gamer. this kind of attitude and toughness is (or should be) the norm in the NFL as far as im concerned.
whether this is about sympathy or just kinda venting at the people who attack him on the internet (i tend to think its the latter), theres really nothing to be accomplished by saying all this. the important thing is that the locker room knows your gutting it out. the fans do not need to.

Its fun to think quarterback, but i think the odds of nix taking one in the first are close to 0%.

Why?

Although I never completely buy into the ol’ “I really want to be here” statement from athletes, but hey, if someone is going to pay him crazy money, he should take it. Why should he have to devalue himself just to prove his allegiance to Buffalo?

Hell, I love Buffalo too…but I bolted 12yrs ago for and haven’t looked back

Well we do, he’s just terrible.

2011 Colorado Avalanche - Dr. Jones can't suture this coaching wound.
The 2011 Buffalo Bills - Where we learn that signing a mediocre QB for 50+ Million dollars is just as good an idea as it sounds.
Burgundy Wave - SBnation's home for the Colorado Rapids
Crystal Palace FC - We'll take mid-table, thank you.

WR better than Stevie

Welker, Megatron, Fitzgerald, Jennings, Nicks, S. Smith, Bryant,

Anyone else he is just as good as.

You guys saw what he did to Revis…. if he was healthy and had a QB who could hit him open deep, he’d have a lot more yardage and more TD’s

by jonramz on Dec 22, 2011 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

The one thing I find hard to believe about this is that if he really had all those injuries, why didn’t Chan IR him? The Bills have been IR happy for years, and look what happened to their best player (FredEx). I have a hard time believing that if Johnson actually had all the injuries he stated that he wouldn’t have been placed on IR.
