With only two games left and playoff chances gone I don't think it's too early to look at the direction the Bill's should go in the 2012 draft... It's come up in various comment sections but I would like to see how the majority of fans feel.
I purposely am asking the question "what position" rather than "what player" simply because its too early to evaluate which prospects will be available when we are on the clock. When you answer try to think about this question as what position would help the Bills franchise the most. That could be in terms of immediate impact or in the future- just justify your response in the comment section.
Here are the choices:
OLB- The Bills have not been able to generate any kind of pass rush consistently this season. Williams/Dareus/Carrington will help from the inside, but a dominant edge rusher would instantly improve this defense dramatically. Depending on the player, they would likely either replace Kelsay on the strong side or play opposite to him on the weak side.
CB- McGee can't stay healthy. McKelvin has no ball skills. Florence gets torched repeatedly. Aaron Williams has looked good but has also had problems staying on the field. The lack of pass rush hasn't helped, but the coverage woes go beyond that.
QB- Most fans seem to be in agreement that Fitz is not a franchise QB. He is an average QB one who can win some games, but not the type that can carry a team on his back. The majority of teams that constantly make the playoffs do so because they have a QB that can carry a team on his back, even if the supporting cast isn't as good as some other teams that don't make it. Fitz is a quality starter than someone can sit behind for a bit before stepping in- which makes drafting a QB now an investment that could pay off huge in the future. The best chance to find that guy is in round 1, so in my opinion its pull the trigger in the first or don't pick a guy in the first 2 days... Some options that come to mind here are Barkley, Griffin III, or Landry Jones.
WR- Stevie is a FA who hopefully will return. Either way, I think the biggest immediate help offensively would be a big bodied WR with some speed to stretch the field. We could pay a guy like Wayne/V. Jackson/Colston in FA, but that would be pricey. We could also draft a guy like Floyd or Jeffreys to step into that role.
So what do you think? Be sure to leave your reasoning in the comments section...
