A Pats Fan Walks Into Buffalo Rumblings and says.. "So We Meet Again."

The final week of the regular season and once again, it's Bills vs. Pats.(excluding HC Bill Belichick and OC Bill O'Brien)

Star-divide

My last visit here was very memorable. The 2-0 Patriots were visiting the 2-0 Bills and everyone here was telling myself and the other Pats fans that Buffalo had no chance. Even at home, they had no chance. I was hard-pressed to find anyone here who thought the Bills could win. Even at half-time it looked like the Bills had no chance to finally defeat New England. How could they win barring a miracle or a 4-interception day from Tom Brady?

It was sweet of everyone to not rub it in when the Patriots were sent home in defeat. The loss humiliated Tom Brady and Julian Edelman enough that they cut their long-hair.

Ever since that game I've been eager for this upcoming one. The Bills snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and are in position to sweep the Patriots for the first time in a long time. Brady and the Pats, for once, want revenge against the Buffalo Bills.

Either I or someone else will do "ask a Pats fan" later in the week. With Pro-Bowlers LG Mankins and LT Light injured, practice notes will be important heading into Sunday's game. In the meantime, how would you all say the Bills have changed since Week 3?

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Definitely injuries, as BfE said above. Their defense is still opportunistic but overall pretty terrible, and Brady should once again eat them alive. The offense, however, is considerably less potent than it was. Our #1 playmaker, Freddie Jackson, is on IR and our #1WR has been injured all year (though still playing well through the pain). Fitz has been really off and on the last five or so weeks, putting together a good game followed by an attrociously bad game, etc.

The offense will not be able to put up another 34+ point game this time, and I doubt that the Pats won’t be able to. So I, like many of my fellow rumblers, doubt the Bills can pull off the sweep. Though it would be pretty sweet, and give us a lot of hope going into next year.

Where do you think you rguys aim in the next draft?

For the Pats I say Safety, Center, DT/DE, WR, DE/OLB, and WR are their positions of need. 6 positions, but only 5 picks in the first 3 rounds and Belichick is likely to trade a 1st away.

It is what it is

by Middlesex on Dec 26, 2011 7:58 PM EST up reply actions

Pass rush. The Bills, like the Pats, don’t pose a viable threat to opposing QBs in the form of a rush. We need one badly, since our DBs have a tendency to play well when the QB is being pressured. Along the same lines, we need another CB.

We are also lacking a #2WR, and a lot of us hope they’ll draft a QB to replace Fitz in the next few years. So I’d say those four positions are the top of everyone’s wish list.

Depends on who you asks

There are those looking for a franchise QB, me including. Some what to build the defense. Lots of opinions, but I’d say the needs are OLB/DE, CB, deep threat WR, developmental QB

That you trade away those first rounders all the time? Also, minus your TE’s, do you feel you all have missed on a LOT of picks in the last few years?

I think we are down a couple also, like Kyle Williams and Fred Jackson. don’t let the skepticism fool you, we all bookmark these games whether it is opening day or the final game. Just like any year we Bills fans hope for a champion effort and good health from both teams with the better team winning.

I want the win. Very, very bad. Sweep the Pats.

But it ain’t gonna happen. We are not the same team earlier this season.
Arrogant Bellychunk is still pissed about the loss.
Brady hates losing.

I’m afraid to turn on the TV Sunday. They are not going to take their foot off the pedal.
Ever.
If the game is 56-10 with four minutes left, Brady is going to throw another 60 yard bomb in order to rub it in and get in our heads for next year.
Our only hope is, again, turnovers by New England.

They can’t cover tight ends, period. It doesn’t matter how they try, if there’s an able receiver at TE, they will destroy the Bills’ defense.

I would say this was a good assessment of what happened, lol

And I will go further to say that there is no way that the Bills sweep the Pats, but after this week I am more confident that they will make a game of it. Kinda like the ’phins game last week.

by inthegaddadavida on Dec 26, 2011 10:09 PM EST reply actions

The Bills can sweep the Pats

The Bills can score and move the ball just like NEw England, and the Bills’ defense is as good as or better than the Patriots. I’m not one to guarantee anything brashly, but it’s a long way from guarenteed that the Bills will lose just because our record is worse or we’ve collapsed this year. Just ask Denver.

I’m hoping the Bills pull it out, and though I don’t think they will, the odds are much better than most people think.

by thefourwinds on Dec 27, 2011 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

Huh ?

“The Bills can score and move the ball just like New England”… really ? Hanging 40 on the Broncos got you all fired up ?

The Bills beat the Patriots at RWS by 3 points back in week 3 – Brady threw 4 picks and New England was without the services of Aaron Hernandez.. Hernandez is back and very healthy, Brady will not throw four more interceptions and the game is at Gillette – the slim Bills victory of week 3 becomes a two TD win for the Pats.

Your comment regarding the N.E. defense is not debatable, the Pats D is not good and so, Buffalo will be able to score this Sunday… 20 points maybe ? But, 20 will not be enough to beat the Patriots – New England values the home-field avantage (throughout the AFC tourney) too much to blow this game vs the Bills.

by profootballfan on Dec 29, 2011 2:53 PM EST up reply actions

Injuries have changed the Bills since week 3.

Most Bills fans knew when healthy they could win games, most also knew if alot of injuries happened it would destroy them. Buffalo just doesn’t the depth right now to a consistent winner. Buffalo’s biggest need is depth and a pass rusher. As for the game, Buffalo’s players really what to sweep the Pats. I think they will play motivated and tough. But I think NE will win, 31-24

I believe he’ll need to put up at least 600 yards to get ahead of Brees, given that Brees has another game to play and compete in it.

Brady is probably still steamed about those 4 picks he threw, so it wouldn’t shock me if he had 300 yards and 4 td passes by half-time.

Stevie needs to get 36 yards this Sunday. He’s been a beast this year considering his ailments. Re-sign him and then pick up a #1 WR like Jeffery/Blackmon or Vincent Jackson in FA.

Who cares if Stevie is a #1. We get another beast WR we’ll have 1A and 1B like Warner had with Fitzgerald/Boldin. Considering we’re operating out of spread formations it would make a lot of sense.

Around #10, I would think…we’ve had horrible luck drafting between 9 and 15 in the past decade, so I don’t know how likely it is that Blackmon is still there.

I’ll be curious to see if Brady is in contention to steal the record from Drew Brees next weekend. the opportunity is golden vs. a weak Bills defense.

I hope it’s not possible. The Bills are too often a part of records falling…but not because they’re breaking them (other than playoff droughts).

Fred's Injury Might be getting too much credit.

We were on our way to our third straight humbling loss when Jackson went down. I know he was awesome those first 7 weeks, but our problems went beyond losing Fred. I think it started with a bad defense getting worse, as the Dallas and Miami games we dropped many points early forcing us away from Fred anyway, the loss of Williams and Merriman took a bad pass-rush and made it so bad that opposing passers were killing us. No surprise that our turnovers from interceptions fell off in concert with these injuries (I see the tebow game as an anomaly, as he shouldn’t be throwing the ball — Saban showed the world how to best contain Tebow in the SEC championship game — Edwards should know). The offense also had already started its slide with the Jets game. Partly because the defense was putting them in terrible spots, but also because of multiple linemen injuries and a thinning wide receiver corp

We were developing more chronic issues before Fred was gone for good and we have yet to really overcome them despite Spiller’s emergence.

I have low expectations. But high hopes.
