Buddy Nix is sitting in his office now, reading our blog. Pouring his third Scotch and puffing a Cuban.

Buddy. “Daggummit Chan, dis here kid Johnson ain’t play’in fare. He keeps juss sayin’ he wants to staye a Bill, da fans all luv him, and he is about gonna go over a tousand yards, breakin a Bills record. What we goin do?”

Chan. “What do ya want me to do bout it Buddy, give ‘em the Spiller treatment Sun-daye so he don’t git da record?”

Buddy. “Naw, dat wont do no good, Fitzy will trow to him anyweigh. Guess I done gotta call Russ and axe him if I kin spend da money.”

but every player out there, even the most “selfless”, is angling for the most money they can get. I get that they are all overpaid, but when everyone is getting overpaid do you really want to be the one who gets underpaid? He isn’t asking for an absurd amount, just a fair amount in the same ball park as his contemporaries.

Sometimes I think we tend to forget football players have family wives and kids. He is just trying to give his family the best life possible like so many other people on this blog. Whats wrong with that. Just like I would not hate him if he left because someone offered him big money. I would take the money if it happened.

Seriously? It’s very obvious to me that he does like playing for this team.

The trick is to find the players that do it for the game more than for the money. I think Stevie is one of those players. But that doesn’t mean that the man doesn’t want to get payed!

I also think he is willing to take a bit less than he could ask for to stay in Buffalo. Stevie’s a good guy, I hope they just get this deal done and he stays here for many years. We need a man like Stevie.
