Kyle Williams upbeat on ankle - The Buffalo News
"I’ve had a bone spur in my heel, under my Achilles (tendon) since college," Williams said. "It’s been there for years. Over time, it’s just gotten bigger and bigger and worse and worse. The last couple years it’s just been pretty steady in the sense of hurting. This year it just came to a head. It was eating away at my Achilles."

Choice eager to make good with Bills - BuffaloBills.com
"I had to run with a purpose Sunday and that’s how I am and finally being healthy is the main thing," he said. "I went from starting, to getting hurt, to bouncing around to a couple of places still injured. Now being healthy and being somewhere where I can go out and perform… I understand what they expect of me and they know what I do, which is play with all I’ve got. Now it’s time to play."

Lindell goes to I-R - BuffaloBills.com

SoCal not fired up by Bills - The Buffalo News
"The Bills Backers clubs will have a big presence at Sunday's Bills-Chargers game in San Diego. It wasn't enough, however, to ensure a sellout at Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers announced about 5,000 tickets remain, and the game will be blacked out in Southern California."

"I think we've got a chance to have everybody except those two," coach Chan Gailey said after practice, referring to Chandler and Williams. "Aaron's probably got a better chance than Scott does right now."

"I talked to Aaron ( Rodgers)," Harrell told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "He told me I should stay. Maybe that was a selfish reason because he and I get along so well and he's pretty comfortable right now. I trust him and he wouldn't advise me in the wrong direction. I'm excited to be here. Having him definitely helps, not only because we get along so well, but he's such a great player and he can do everything he can to teach you. It's a great place to learn and develop."

Williams optimistic after ankle surgery - The Buffalo News
"He was able to go in, take the Achilles up, clean all the spurring and everything off, put it back down," Williams said. "No issues. He said it went great. I ought to be good to go and feel as good as I've felt in my career -- since college."

Bills' Chandler Looks Unlikely To Play - WGR 550
"After his second straight day of not practicing, Scott Chandler is said to be less likely to play Sunday than cornerback Aaron Williams by Bills head coach Chan Gailey. Gailey said earlier in the week that Williams was unlikely to play, which likely means Chandler will not be ready for Sunday either."

Bills' Kyle Williams Will Be Ready In 6 Months - WGR 550
1) He'll be fully rehabbed in six months. 2) He was fairly close to having it rupture, so they instead elected to shut him down the rest of the season and get it operated on. 3) The most range in motion in his ankle he's had in years is when the cast came off after surgery.

I’m just… really not enjoying James Walker. I wasn’t when we were 5-2, and I especially don’t now.

agreed

Probably going to unsubscribe next time I clean my RSS feeds. Tim Graham’s twitter is good, though.

i know its a loooong way till 2012 season but the kyle williams news has me excited for that d line. obviously anything can happen and the bills can still screw it up but you cant help but be happy his recovery might mean he will be better than before especially if hes had that spur since he can remember

I don’t understand why/how the Bills medical staff didn’t take action on this last year. We were 4-12. Had they shut him down near the end of last year, with surgery and rehab, he would have been ready and healthy for the 2011 season.

Another question about the medical/fitness staff of the Bills.

It could have been just Kyle’s decision. You can’t force a guy to have surgery. It mightve been just one of those “hey it might get better or it might get worse” scenarios. I’m no doctor, and you very well could be right, but that’s just another way of looking at it.

except bone spurs rarely get better on their own especially Williams’ particular ailment(calcaneal) that could ultimately damage or sever his achilles.

It’s not like training staff can read minds, though. Williams is a tough dude, and he was playing the best football of his life. It’s not like they would’ve noticed he was hurting more than usual unless he told them – and can you really see Kyle Williams complaining about a little pain?

I suppose, but, imagine his level of play with a healthy heel. Ahhh, I’m falling into the “wait til next year” trap.

also, as testament to his toughness, it’s more than “a little pain”…

You got that right!!

I had bone spurs in my shoulder surgically removed. The pain is awful! The funny things about it was, it hurt only when my arm rose above my shoulder. I tried to compensate, probably like Kyle did, until I couldn’t take it any more.

His comment about the achillies is concerning to me. If it’s been weakened, it’ll be an ongoing issue for him.

Wouldn’t they have fixed that during the surgery?

by MattRichWarren on Dec 9, 2011 10:26 AM EST up reply actions

It’s never the same, though.

imagine a rope rubbing on a cliff, the rope being the achilles, the cliff the bone spur. The continued abrasion of the achilles is obviously bad. The removal of the bone spur is “the surgery”. Hopefully, the achilles was undamaged (worn). With rest, rehab the achilles inflamation would subside.
That was kind of my point. If he continued to play with it silently, as Brian said, he was risking serious damage and lengthy recovery. I hope that wasn’t the case.
When I read that the training staff was cutting the backs out of his shoes, it told me they knew something and were compensating. I still maintain the time to have corrected this was sooner not later.

Just to play devil’s advocate, Kyle Williams could have sought out a second opinion on his heel last year if he questioned the Bills diagnosis.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if it was damaged would they have replaced it?

by MattRichWarren on Dec 9, 2011 1:50 PM EST up reply actions

Didn’t they fix merrimans Achilles?

by bizarro bills on Dec 9, 2011 2:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

He didn’t have surgery on the Achilles until this year I thought. Maybe I’m wrong.

I would imagine
I don’t understand why/how the Bills medical staff didn’t take action on this last year.

the lockout might have factored into Williams’ decision to wait.
