agreed
Probably going to unsubscribe next time I clean my RSS feeds. Tim Graham’s twitter is good, though.
i know its a loooong way till 2012 season but the kyle williams news has me excited for that d line. obviously anything can happen and the bills can still screw it up but you cant help but be happy his recovery might mean he will be better than before especially if hes had that spur since he can remember
he last couple years it’s just been pretty steady in the sense of hurting. This year it just came to a head. It was eating away at my Achilles."
I don’t understand why/how the Bills medical staff didn’t take action on this last year. We were 4-12. Had they shut him down near the end of last year, with surgery and rehab, he would have been ready and healthy for the 2011 season.
Another question about the medical/fitness staff of the Bills.

It could have been just Kyle’s decision. You can’t force a guy to have surgery. It mightve been just one of those “hey it might get better or it might get worse” scenarios. I’m no doctor, and you very well could be right, but that’s just another way of looking at it.

except bone spurs rarely get better on their own especially Williams’ particular ailment(calcaneal) that could ultimately damage or sever his achilles.

It’s not like training staff can read minds, though. Williams is a tough dude, and he was playing the best football of his life. It’s not like they would’ve noticed he was hurting more than usual unless he told them – and can you really see Kyle Williams complaining about a little pain?

I suppose, but, imagine his level of play with a healthy heel. Ahhh, I’m falling into the “wait til next year” trap.

also, as testament to his toughness, it’s more than “a little pain”…

You got that right!!
I had bone spurs in my shoulder surgically removed. The pain is awful! The funny things about it was, it hurt only when my arm rose above my shoulder. I tried to compensate, probably like Kyle did, until I couldn’t take it any more.

His comment about the achillies is concerning to me. If it’s been weakened, it’ll be an ongoing issue for him.

Wouldn’t they have fixed that during the surgery?
by MattRichWarren on Dec 9, 2011 10:26 AM EST up reply actions
It’s never the same, though.

imagine a rope rubbing on a cliff, the rope being the achilles, the cliff the bone spur. The continued abrasion of the achilles is obviously bad. The removal of the bone spur is “the surgery”. Hopefully, the achilles was undamaged (worn). With rest, rehab the achilles inflamation would subside.
That was kind of my point. If he continued to play with it silently, as Brian said, he was risking serious damage and lengthy recovery. I hope that wasn’t the case.
When I read that the training staff was cutting the backs out of his shoes, it told me they knew something and were compensating. I still maintain the time to have corrected this was sooner not later.

Just to play devil’s advocate, Kyle Williams could have sought out a second opinion on his heel last year if he questioned the Bills diagnosis.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if it was damaged would they have replaced it?

Didn’t they fix merrimans Achilles?
by bizarro bills on Dec 9, 2011 2:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
He didn’t have surgery on the Achilles until this year I thought. Maybe I’m wrong.
by MattRichWarren on Dec 10, 2011 2:51 PM EST up reply actions
I would imagine
I don’t understand why/how the Bills medical staff didn’t take action on this last year.
the lockout might have factored into Williams’ decision to wait.
