You know it's mocking season when Tim Graham from ESPN put up a good ol mock on his blog. I love how everyone has such a difference of opinion when it comes to our pick, It's like the other two picks are set in stone according to the so called draft experts with Fairley at #1 and Peterson at # 2.
We have to remember as Bills fans that we can only take whos available, there seems to be a few guys on this site that think we have the first overall pick, we don't, we have the 3rd, so whoever Carolina and Denver choose will make our draft. Our upcoming season hinges on what the 2 teams in front of us choose to do, I'm almost certain that Peterson will go to Denver at #2 (because Champ is a free agent and does NOT want to stay in Denver) that being said I can honestly say i don't think Fairley goes # 1, so if Fairley is available does that make him BPA? I'm not sure.
We as fans get so amped about the upcoming draft/impending free agency that we tend to forget that the Bills haven't and never will be major players in free agency and our destination isn't exactly the most attractive to upcoming free agents looking for a place to play.
What can we count on this offseason? not a whole lot, to be honest really, we can count on Whitner leaving (just based on his salary wants vs our salary wants) and that our defense is going to get some additions. To me, thats all I really know going into this offseason. I have no idea who this team is going to draft, I have no idea which free agents Buddy is looking at, heck I don't even know if we are going to hire any more coaches (Man would I love to get Jeff Fisher on board), What about trades? can we honestly see Buddy making a trade to aquire more draft choices or to aquire more talent? I have no idea.
All we have to go on is what Buddy did last year and to be honest there really isn't a pattern of consistency, he took a surprise at #9 then followed that up with 2 small school dlineman, then a 1 year wonder WR, then an unpolished OT then some small school standout DE's then a QB with a big league arm and a minor league mind. Then we had the ML preview for 4 games then a trade that kind of (and I say kind of because we all thought ML would have been gone alot earlier then that) came out of no where. He signed absolute suitcases at RT & ILB, along with a pretty steady DE. So what can we expect Buddy to do, we can't expect anything, we just have to wait and it drives me insane!!!!
The only thing I do expect, now that I think about it, is an ol savvy veteran doing his homework, studying the film and making the Buffalo Bills a better football team for a long time to come.
