I do not pretend to have any expertice in these matters, however this is my pre-combine mock draft. I think this would be decent draft that addresses quite a few needs.
R1. Patrick Petersen CB LSU
If he is available I believe he is the smart pick. I don't dislike Newton here, I just think Petersen is better.
R2. Martez Wilson ILB Illinois
Alleged to be the best ILB prospect in the draft. Definitely a need area.
R3. Colin Kaepernick QB Nevada
Similar qualities and stats to Newton at a much lower cost and less controversy. This is part of why I choose Petersen in the 1st.
R4a. Marcus Gilbert OT Florida
Need OL help, Gilbert should be available here.
R4b. Casey Mathews ILB Oregon
With Poz's future uncertain another ILB would be wise. If he becomes close to the player his is brother then great.
R5. Charlie Gantt TE Michigan State
Huge blocking TE fits the offense helps the O-Line.
R6. Cedric Thornton DT Southern Arkansas
Need additional bodies in the D-Line.
R7. Eric Hagg S Nebraska
Need to replace Whitner, wouldn't it make everyone ecstatic to replace him effectively with a 7th rounder.
This is all subject to change after this weekend and the coming months but right now I think this is a solid draft. Comment away.
