King Baron's Mock Draft 2011 V.2

Im going to keep my hypothetical trade from V.1 since i still believe the 49ers will still attempt to jump the Cardinals to get Blaine Gabbert. No matter how much pandering Harbaugh does to Alex Smith I doubt the 49ers will allow the Cardinals to upgrade their QB without a fight. So the #3 to San Fran and Buffalo gets #7 and #45.

In Free Agency my desire for Logan Mankins has proven to be null since he will be the Patriots Franchise Tag...

Stephen Cooper at ILB would be a nice fit and if we dont keep Whitner than I wouldnt mind seeing Bob Sanders in a Bills uniform but we had better resign George Wilson either way.

on to the draft...

Rd 1 #7 Marcel Dareus DL Alabama. We move down and still get the guy we want. I dont see anyone other than the Broncos possibly picking him. So we win by default.

Rd 2 #34 Mark Herzlich LB Boston College. Cancer survivor playing football for the cancer capital of the world. It's a good fit and possibly a reach, but so was Troup, so was Carrington and he fits a need, a role and is a perfect Buffalo Bill.

Rd2 #45 Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas. The best QB in this draft. No matter how arrogant he is, he can and will back it up. He will get passed over due to the alleged drug allegations and his arrogance. His delivery may be a tad slow but even today at the combine he showed a quicker release than during the season and with a good Coach he can and will be great. Hate it now, but in two years you will be referring to him as the Best QB since Jimbo, and remind you of Jimbo all the same.

Rd3 #68 Marvin Austin DL North Carolina. Another player who slipped in the draft due to character concerns but the man is a beast and may end up being one of the top DL in the draft.

Rd4 #99 Lance Kendricks TE Wisconsin. The perfect TE for a Chan Gailey offense. Great in line blocker (isnt everyone from Wisconsin a great inline blocker?) with a combination of good hands and speed.  I would also be happy with Jordan Cameron but I think he's gonna be a much higher selection come April.

Rd4 #121 Tyler Sash SS Iowa. Quick, strong and heady player. Would be a great Special Teams player and ready to play in case of injury. Long term investment at Safety.

Rd5 #130 John Clay RB Wisconsin. Big Back to go with Jackson and Spiller. Goal line situations, short yardage and just pound the defense. I love this guy.

Rd6 #164 Justin Boren G Ohio State. Big Body 6'3'' 320lbs. Will be immediately available to back up Levitre, Wood and Urbik in case of injury and could possibly play RT with his long arms.

Rd7 #195 Mario Harvey LB Marshall. Late pick who may be a steal. He eats tackles.... like i said may end up pushing Batten for a spot on the 53 man roster.

With all of this we would have to resign Poz and Florence...

let me know what you think...

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Didn’t we already have Mario Harvey? Oh wait, that was Mario Haggan:)

Draft scenario’s with trades are fun. Maybe just because it just mixes it up. Marcell is a better fit at #7 if that’s the guy you really want. I’m really not liking Herzlich at #34. I haven’t even seen him go in the top100 in other mocks. I feel like you can get him much later. But I do like him as a thumper inside.

Mallet shouldn’t fall to #45 either. He won’t even be there at #34. Expect a team like Miami or Minnesota to trade back into the first if he slides close to the second. He’s just way too talented. And playing behind an OL like with those two teams, he could look good. Quickly.

I like John Clay in the 5th. Reminds me a bit of Michael Turner. I’d like our power running game in a few years with Clay and CJ forming some thunder and lighting.

Change Hezlich with Ryan Kerrigan in the 2nd. Get Hezlich in the 4th. Then give me Colin K. with #45 and I think we have a really nice draft.

I wouldnt mind Colin Kaepernick at #45

but i do feel that Mallett will be drafted after him. I really think you will see Newton, then Gabbert, then Locker then Kaepernick all before Mallett… Its stupid but I dont think he will do himself any favors over the next two months. But hey who knows.

I still remember flying paper airplanes at One Bills Drive during a game against the Redskins during the strike year... my first Bills game.

I own a Rob Johnson signed jersey, so with that in mind if i like the Bills QB just expect him to fall on a football and break his ribs.

Not as long as Mike Brown is a GM in the league.

Yes!

I think this would be the best possible draft we could have

No trade?

Can you tell me what it would be without the trade?

with no trade

take out Mallett at 45 and Austin in the third and plug in Kaepernick into the third round… though I sitll believe he will be the Raiders 2nd rd pick.

I like the trade, but how about another one?

I have previously said that I think the Bills can move back to either 7 or 8 and pick up an extra second. Love it, especially with all the defensive talent in this draft.

But I am not a huge fan of Mallet, and I actually think Arizona would take him if they don’t get there QB in the first anyway. But if we make your trade we would have some great ammunition to trade back into the first (#18-25) and take Jake Locker.. So how about this- #34 and #68 to trade up and get Locker, then take Herzlich with our other 2nd…

Dareus, Locker, and Herzlich in one draft? Sign me up

to clarify

Its not Mallets game that I don’t like, I just don’t see him as a great fit in our offense. I don’t think we have a strong enough line to give him the kind of pocket he needs to be a successful QB, and he doesn’t have the athleticism to escape any kind of a pass rush

by astrazz2 on Feb 28, 2011 11:29 AM EST up reply actions

I think our OL will be a strength next season...

call me crazy but I expect Wood, Levtre, Urbik, Bell and whoever wins the RT job to perform very well protecting the passer next season. Im not sure about their run blocking skill but i think they will kepp Fitz or whomever upright most of the time. Plus Chan dont run plays that puts his QB at too much risk, I really like his play calling when it comes to protecting the QB. Especially if we can get a strong TE

Yuck

Mallet, is my least favorite player in this draft and may have drug addictiion
You mocked Herzlich to us strictly because of his name, he was nothing compared to his former self if you watched him this year and is way too big of a risk in round 2, I see him as round 4-5 talent now
I doubt Austin falls to the 3rd
I love trading down for Dareus but not how you used the pciks..

Kenny Powers is back!

I agree with you on Herzlich

but I still expect him to grow as a player… a season off with Chemotherapy… i think he will be a second round pick… and i honestly think it will be ours.

No Mallet

The guy is a hot head as exposed in his just completed interview with the press over his drug allegations. We don’t need a QB that can’t control his emotions.

by Winnie33 on Feb 28, 2011 2:00 PM EST reply actions

Herzlich?

He ran a 4.92 at the combine, no way in hell his name should even be a consideration at #34

by BillsBacker81 on Feb 28, 2011 2:29 PM EST reply actions

besides that he has a rod in his leg and it remains to be seen how much of his original athleticism he will regain, from what i hear hes a great kid with a great story but this would be one of the worst picks possible in my opinion, however i do like alot of your other picks

by BillsBacker81 on Feb 28, 2011 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

yes

love the trade back but this should allow the bills to gain a 2nd and 3rd or a 2012 1st and a third looking at the points. At 7 love dareus. Finally someone to eat up the outside in the 3-4 or play DT in 4-3. at 34 would rather have phil taylor NT or end for 3-4, martez wilson or akeem ayers(if he drops) or rahim moore than herzlich. Would take him later though in 4th or 5th. love austin as he has tons of potential( would take sheppard if we took phil taylor in second. lance kendricks, yes as I have him and stocker at about same levels. tyler sash, have seen a couple of games on good hitter. Haven’t seen much on clay but have heard of him. Sixth and seventh rounds I try not to guess since they never work out the way i plan. Ryan mallett could be good but I don’t see the bills taking an exclusive pocket passer. Does remind me of jimbo. Could see stocker, pinkston or barksdale here. Would love a competition for starting RT and a future LT. Who would we get with the second third rounder? If no taylor i like the NT from stanford. Great ideas

by billleve on Feb 28, 2011 7:18 PM EST reply actions

I doubt taking a HOG for the middle after taking Troup in the second last year.

though i do like Taylor… just dont see him being a need nor even really a want.

OMG, no please

I will let you deal for the move back to take Dareus then show you the door.

Herzlich is top of 4th rd at best and Mallet is the anti Gailey QB – pass on him please.

I stopped reading after those 2

Gailey sure did well with a QB with pretty much the same skill set

Troy Aikman…

Im sick of hearing how he only likes running QBs

if Chan Gailey is anything, it’s a good offensive mind that will, can and has adapted to the talent he has around him.

This. Also I’m a little surprised people are worried about Mallett behind our o-line. A lot of people like Cam because he’s big enough to “take a hit” similar to Roethlisberger…well isn’t Mallett just as big?

Acceptable #3 Selections: Blaine Gabbert, AJ Green, Von Miller, Cameron Jordan, Marcell Dareus, Prince Amukamara, Patrick Peterson, Robert Quinn

Difference between statue of liberty and Ryan Mallett

You can move the statue if you had to

Mallett has no pocket presence – doesn’t feel pressure

by freddyjj on Mar 1, 2011 6:14 PM EST up reply actions

Gailey and Aikman

Did not go well – Aikman did not like his offense

Troy could not execute the rollout etc at that stage of his career and was gunshy of getting hit due to previous concussions

Still a no on Mallet

by freddyjj on Mar 1, 2011 6:11 AM EST reply actions

Marvin Austin might go in the first round, no later than mid 2nd. Wayyyyyyy too early for herzlich, the rest is awesome and possible.

by cencalclassics on Mar 1, 2011 8:39 AM EST reply actions

This would be one heck of a good draft for the Bills

if they could land all of those players, but I see Austin possibly going in the late 2nd round, but he has had major character issues.
Love the Kendrick pick.
I am not high on Herzlich, who was had numerous injuries while at BC. He might be damaged goods at this point, but was one heck of a player before the string of injuries.
Mallett in the 2nd, why not take a chance.
I doubt that Dareus will last until the 7th pick, but it is possible.
Clay would be the type of runner the Bills need in the cold, winter months – Similar to what Pittsburgh does taking Mendanhall.
